Technology has a way of shrinking things. Phones today are slimmer than they were 10 years back. Cameras are measurably smaller than they were decades ago. Televisions today measure about as thick as a few credit cards stacked together. There’s no reason the beard shaver should still remain a bulky device, right? After all, the shaver is merely a blade powered by a motor and battery. Eschewing the bulky, ergonomic designs of most beard shavers you see today, the ZERA M simplifies things down for the sake of compactness. Minimalist Side Table Hides a Simple But Effective Cable Management System

Many of our everyday items find their way to the side tables sides couches, desks, and beds, and some of these items have cables that snake their way down and across the floor. These wires might not always ensnare your feet, but they definitely turn any beautiful interior into a dangling mess of cables. There are some side tables these days with built-in power outlets, but those still show the wires that crisscross each other. Some might even have the uninspiring charging bricks also rearing their ugly heads. This simple side table, on the other hand, has an equally simple solution that makes sure that nothing but your phones or tablets get the spotlight.

At first glance, the Charge Table looks like a pretty nondescript side table, albeit one with some elegance thanks to its minimalist design. The body itself is made from sturdy powder-coated steel that provides stability and handsome looks. The top of the table is lined with soft felt that protects your devices from scratches and bumps. It also gives a rough surface for mugs and cups to grip, keeping them from sliding.

This simplicity, however, is deceptive, because that tabletop slides out a bit to reveal a hidden compartment inside. This storage space has one primary function: to house a power strip that can charge your devices. You simply plug in your chargers, slide the tabletop back in, and have the charging cable discreetly coming out from the small gap at the side. And when you need to leave with that charger, simply slide the tabletop out again, unplug the charger, and go. You can also leave as many chargers in there thanks to the compartment’s spacious area.

As for the power strip’s own thick cable, a hole in the middle of that hidden storage for it to pass from beneath the table. Ideally, you’d have it find its way down one of the table’s legs or across to a nearby couch or chair, completely hiding it from view. Admittedly, it’s going to be trickier than keeping devices’ charging cables hidden, but at least there’s only one snake to wrangle.

The Charge Table offers a simple, elegant, yet very effective solution to ensuring that unsightly wires don’t ruin the aesthetics of your interior, though the compact size of the table does present another problem. Given today’s practice of owning more than one device per person, it might not be big enough to charge a phone and a tablet or a combination of multiple devices at the same time. Then again, the very design of the table itself encourages simplicity and frugality, and it might give people pause for thought on what’s really important, at least as far as the devices they keep close are concerned.

I bought a projector around the time the pandemic began. My rented apartment was small, I didn’t want to mount a TV on the wall, and moreover, I liked the idea of being able to watch movies either in the living room or the bedroom. Besides, it’s also when streaming at home absolutely exploded because nobody was going to the theaters anymore. Projectors have existed for over a century at this point, but for a major part of the modern tech discourse, TVs have dominated the conversation when it came to consumers. Every home HAD to have a couch facing a TV… but not anymore. Projectors are finally becoming smarter, higher in quality, more compact/sleek, and more affordable. However, choosing the right projector is a tricky affair. Sure, you could go with your budget and compare ratings on Amazon, but before you do, it helps to understand what TYPE of projector you want to buy. For the Gen-Z the brand signifies freedom of thought and enjoyment with no strings attached. Going with this philosophy, a team of designers has conjured up this cool gadget christened Hei-Five.

A culmination of Heineken and high five, the palm-sized music device is about sharing songs with like-minded individuals and discovering new music. For instance, you hear a jiving tune at the trending restaurant in your city and desperately want to add that song to your playlist. Yes folks, the Hei-Five will do that without breaking a sweat.

Simply push the bottle cap-shaped button on one side and the gadget finds the song, thus allowing you to explore music tastes from around the globe. Whenever you meet a new friend at the beach or even a stranger at the local bar, simply clink each other’s device to create a unique playlist of both your tastes. There’s a dedicated share button to instantly share a song or playlist with someone having a Hei-Five device. That’s not it, when hanging in a group, stack everyone’s device on top of each other to create a potent speaker that plays the most liked songs in everyone’s playlist.

When the Hei-Five runs out of juice, simply dock it on the accompanying charger and it displays the current time and charging levels. The packing of the audio accessory is as interesting as its functionality. As soon as you open the box, there’s a Heineken can concealing the Hei-Five docked in the charging box. Google Nest has had a fair share of success thanks to its built-in Google Assistant capabilities. The capable speaker has been the first introduction to the world of smart speakers for many of us, and now it is inspiring the Omni Smart Speaker – which looks similar to the Google speaker – but adds an auxiliary screen to it that distinguishes it for the better.

So, if you’re looking to upgrade your smart speaker, you may have a new option, amid a plethora of choices already available from Google, Amazon, Apple and many other manufacturers. The Omni is far from the others with its novel display that shows real-time visual feedback of what’s happening, saving effort and confusion during voice commands.

Described as the “next-generation smart speaker concept” – the Omni is equipped with a voice-enabled assistant – not sure which one though – and allows the users to tap on the convenience of voice to control home appliances easily and more intuitively. Whether the speaker is splash-proof or not, we are uncertain, so we are guessing it is made for indoor use only, where it would allow you to listen to different music in any room of your house.

You should be able to connect multiple devices in different rooms across the house and control them from the Omni, without moving a stride. And when you think, the commands are going to get mixed, you can look up and see the sleek, modern speaker’s integrated auxiliary display and see what’s happening in real time. Whether you’re adjusting the thermostat, turning on the lights, or setting the music, the Omni smart speaker will make every voice command “straightforward and responsive.”

While Nintendo has no plans to release a Game Boy version in the future, a concept design puts the handheld right in the realms of ultra-advanced gaming accessories. The gaming handheld visualized here solves your gaming needs indoors and outdoors sans any restrictions on whether you prefer playing it on the native small screen or the bigger one.

That’s possible with an integrated mini projector that can be taken right off the back of the handheld and positioned to project on any room wall, outdoor tent, or anything with a plain surface. This detachable projector module seamlessly switches the gameplay output, so you can enjoy games on the big canvas anytime. The transparent aesthetics of the handheld are inspired by the clear transparent version dubbed Game Boy Bros. released in 1995.

The display is much bigger, using most of the screen real estate with minimal bezels. Right below it are the gamepad controls that are much bigger and more tactile for improved gameplay and ergonomics. The tiny hardware of the gadget is enclosed in a transparent polycarbonate housing protected by the gorilla glass layer. To make this modern Nintendo handheld stand out, the designer envisions it in cool color options – Flame Scarlet, Greenery, Ultra Violet and Blue Grotto.

In this age of digital music, you still see some true-blue music lovers that collect vinyl records. To be able to fully appreciate the quality of this high-fidelity kind of music though, you also need to have a pretty good vinyl player. The quality though of what’s available in the market can be hit or miss, especially for those that have limited budget. So when we see something that’s relatively affordable but you know can bring you great music, we can’t wait to add to cart.

1 By One is one such brand that can give you quality vinyl players while not killing your wallet. Their High Fidelity Belt Drive Turntable has a lot of features that will make music lovers pretty happy. This includes built-in speakers so you don’t need to spend for external speakers if you don’t have them already. But it can also be connected to your system if you prefer something more powerful than what is already included in this turntable package. It is also a vibration-damping belt-drive turntable system so you’ll get stable sound.

It can spin both 33 and 45 RPM speeds and has magnet-type cartridge and adjustable counterweight which are necessary to give you “rich and warm audio” and also balances each channel. The Audio-Technica stylus cartridge included here is diamond-tipped and is able to track the vinyl record’s grooves so you get high-definition audio. The turntable uses wood and metal materials while the transparent cover gives it a more aesthetic look.

Tilting water cup concept gets you to drink more water by scaring you

We all know how important water is to our health, but simply knowing those facts doesn’t immediately translate to action. Most of us simply forgo drinking water until we feel thirsty or when it’s time to eat, even though we actually need to hydrate regularly throughout the day. It’s easy to forget to do that in during the busy day, and it’s also just as easy to snooze or skip alarms you set to remind you. You wouldn’t be so complacent, however, if your water cup or tumbler is fated to fall over unless you drink water at the right time, and that’s somewhat the kind of scare tactic that this concept device employs to try to get you to drink water more regularly.

No, the cup thankfully doesn’t actually threaten to spill your water if you don’t rush to catch it, but it makes you think the tumbler will indeed tumble over if you don’t. It only tries to make you stand up and make the effort to walk to the device, presuming you put it far from your desk. The way this tilting water cup works is a mixture of simple mechanics and psychology, though some will probably have doubts about the efficacy of the latter.

The design is made up of two parts, the actual cup that holds the water and the base that does the mind trick. You simply put the cup of water on top of the base, turn the ring on the base to set the timer, and then go back to what you were doing. Once the timer runs out, an alarm presumably sounds and the surface of the base where the cup rests begins to tilt, forcing you to rush to its side and pick up the cup. And since you’re already there anyway, you might as well drink the water from it, which is the whole point of this rather odd system.

Of course, the cup won’t actually fall off since it’s magnetically attached to that base. The question is whether the contents will start spilling at that angle, so you might have to make sure not to fill it up in the first place. You might also wonder if it will be difficult to pick up the cup from the base considering it has to be held by strong magnets to prevent it from slipping when it tilts.

The biggest concern, however, will be whether the strategy actually works. It might be effective for the first few times, but once your mind has adjusted to it, it won’t be so easily tricked again. At that point, you might very well start ignoring it, too, just like those alarms and reminders, turning the titling water cup into an odd but pointless design.

Someone 3D Printed A Millennium Falcon Wireless Mouse And Now I Want One

Now that I think about it, the Millennium Falcon’s shape sort of looks like it would lend itself well to a wireless mouse.

In yet another episode of ‘Things I don’t need but want desperately’, here’s the Millennium Falcon wireless mouse. Designed by ‘parkeryaojj’, the mouse sports a design reminiscent of a scaled down model of Han Solo’s spaceship from Star Wars, except with left and right click paddles and a scroll wheel. The only thing really missing are laser blasters and minifigures of Solo and Chewie but a little bit of paint could probably fix that.

Although I’d expect the Star Wars merch team to already be selling this exact product, the mouse in question is entirely fan-made and has a fair amount of DIY. The outer shell needs to be 3D printed, while the internals use Bambu Labs’ Wireless Mouse Kit, which contains the inner components like the optical sensor, PCB, buttons, and battery enclosure.

You can download the 3D cad files from Maker World and print your own outer shell from ABS or PLA. The shell does come in multiple parts that fix together (and the left and right buttons are held together using pillars you need to break off), and can be printed in any color. In fact someone even managed to print one in transparent filament which does look pretty cool.

You can either print the mouse in a single filament/color and paint the details on, or edit the 3D model and print your final CAD using a multi-filament setup.

Once printed, all you need to do is put all the pieces together, which doesn’t take too long. The result is a mouse that’s gorgeous yet functional. Don’t expect it to be comparable to your ergonomic or gaming mouse, but it still does have a certain flair that will appeal to most true-blue nerds and Star Wars fans. The Bambu Labs kit starts at a mere $12, but the sensor packs a DPI range of 800-1600, which I’d say is pretty impressive.
