This $599 Lunar Timepiece lets you wear Actual Moon Dust on your wrist

It’s a sort of hilarious coincidence that our timekeeping journey started with sundials and ends in 2024 with moon-watches. Behold the LUNAR1,622, a watch that celebrates our cosmic neighbor by quite literally letting you wear a piece of it. With a vial containing actual certified moon dust, the LUNAR1,622 pays tribute to the Apollo 11 mission and not too soon! As NASA prepares to send Artemis III with humans back to the moon, the watch aptly ushers in our new era of space travel! Along with the tiny vial of moon dust located in one corner of the watch dial, the LUNAR1,622 even comes with a meticulously 3D-printed watch face that captures the moon’s intricately mottled surface, coupled with Neil Armstrong’s famed quote as he set foot on the lunar surface – “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” If all that wasn’t enough to satisfy even the hungriest of space-lover-appetites, Premium editions of the watch also come with built-in NFC chips that bring up all the watch’s details when tapped against a smartphone.

The LUNAR1,622 watch itself is an homage to the moon’s surface, with a highly detailed 3D printed dial that wonderfully catches light and shadows to recreate depth. In fact, the 1,622 in the watch’s name is a hat-tip to the moon’s surface gravity. Designed by up-and-coming watch startup INTERSTELLAR (who previously debuted a watch with actual Mars dust), the LUNAR1,622 comes in three variants – a Standard, with a 3 o’clock window that contains a graphic of the iconic footprint on the moon, or the Advanced and Premium variants that swap the graphic for a vial containing certified moon dust collected from a moon meteorite.

Meteorite Moon Dust – Their meteorite, with the ID#NWA11515, was found in 2017 and provided by MSG Meteorites, a British company specialized in certified space rocks and licensed by the IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association).

Lunar1,622 Watch with Integrated NASA Logo – The project respects the necessary permissions and aligns with NASA’s guidelines for NASA logo usage.

The bezel features a timeline of all NASA moon missions, with successful landings highlighted in gold, while the Apollo 11 mission details can be found inscribed on the border of the 3 o’clock vial, along with Neil Armstrong’s initials. Shift your gaze further to the outer edge and you’ll spot Armstrong’s legendary quote etched into the dial, right near the crown. Even the caseback features the official NASA meatball logo, a subtle tribute to their unwavering pursuit of lunar knowledge.

LUNAR1,622 commemorates Neil Armstrong’s iconic words, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

On the edge of the dial all the way around it, you’ll find all successful Apollo missions numbered. All missions that landed on the moon are marked in gold.

Commemorating the historic Apollo 11 mission, this timepiece features the mission’s name, date and Neil Armstrong’s initials.

The folks at INTERSTELLAR partnered with renowned timekeeping brand Col&MacArthur to power the watch’s internals. The Standard and Advanced variants house a reputable Japanese-made Miyota 8215 automatic movement on the inside, while the Premium edition packs a Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. The Premium variant also upgrades the watch case to cutting-edge titanium (as opposed to the standard 316L steel), complete with gold-plated hands to give the watch a distinctly elevated style. An integrated NFC chip also allows you to tap your Premium LUNAR1,622 wristwatch to your phone, instantly pulling up the watch’s details and story – a feature that’s sure to impress people even further after you tell them your watch contains actual moon dust!

Ethereal-Looking Lighting Design Celebrates “The Refractive Nature Of Crystal”

Lighting designs are plenty and not at all lacking, but a lighting design that is the perfect mix of functionality, personality, and good looks isn’t always easy to come by. And I’m always looking for well-designed lighting pieces that not only do their job of illumination but are also interesting little designs that spark conversations and elevate mundane living spaces. And this collection of table and wall lamps truly hit the spot! Called the Port range, this collection is designed by an Australian designer Tom Fereday in collaboration with the lighting brand Rakumba.

Designer: Tom Fereday x Rakumba

The Port Collection celebrates “the refractive nature of crystal”. It is the lovechild of the creative efforts of Tom Fereday and Rakumba, and the collection includes two shapes – the circular Round design, and the lozenge-shaped Stadium design. They both are available in tabletop or wall-mounted interactions. Each variant includes a solid glass block supported by a metal base. The glass block features an interesting conical shape with an internal stepped form. This intriguing form allows a subtle play with the refraction of light when switched on.

Since the block isn’t directly connected to the base, this block can be flipped over and also reset into the base, altering the manner in which the light is cast. “Port celebrates the purity and refractive nature of crystal,” said designer Tom Fereday. “Reversing the crystal form entirely changes the way the light is perceived, revealing Port’s unique dual character.” The Port collection beautifully captures and showcases the purity and characteristics of crystal. It takes the beauty of the material to a whole new level, allowing the material to take center place and grab attention without the need for any excessive bells and tassels.

The metallic base of the lighting design is available in a wide range of metallic finishes, so you can pick and choose the finish that perfectly suits the interiors of your living or working space. The Port lighting designs are versatile pieces that can be used in a variety of interiors – ranging from residential spaces to restaurants, making it a lighting piece that can find utility almost anywhere.

Golf Ball Case with a clever spiral-shaped design lets you TWIST to push new balls out

I’m not a golfer myself, but I imagine that for people who DO golf, carrying your equipment around can be quite an elaborate affair… given that you’re constantly moving from one spot to another. Golf clubs usually have their large bag that you transport them in, but as far as golf balls go, I’m not entirely sure I’ve seen any well-designed container for them. For designers at superkomma, that sounded like a perfect design opportunity – meet the Attomax Golf Pouch, a spiral hard-case that lets you store as well as deploy golf balls with ease.

Designer: superkomma

The GIF above explains everything you need to understand about the Attomax Golf Pouch. Two spiral-shaped containers thread into one another, allowing you to expand or contract the case simply by twisting and turning the lower element. Use the case to store golf balls, and every time you need a new one, simply twist to make the case shorter, allowing the golf ball at the bottom to rise to the top. It’s a simple, yet delightful user experience that serves its purpose well, is memorable, and will probably have your fellow golfers asking you where you got the pouch from!

Simplicity is the name of the Attomax pouch’s game. Its form is deceptively rudimentary, relying on a basic geometric spiral that catches light beautifully, along with a two-tone container design. The pouch is compact, yet big enough to hold probably 4 golf balls at a time, although you’ll still need to carry your tees separately (those tiny skewers you perch your golf balls on before swinging). The Attomax comes with a lid to hold the balls in place (obviously), but also has a nice leash that your caddy can string around their leash so they always have the next ball ready for when you need to take a shot.

The pouch was designed for Attomax, a reputed golf brand known for making the world’s first high-density golf ball using amorphous metal alloy. superkomma pointed out that the idea of using two different colors for the container’s separate halves wasn’t just an aesthetic choice, it also helped users intuitively determine how many golf balls were inside the case simply by seeing the ‘ratio’ between the two colors based on how expanded or contracted the case was. For example, if the purple half is just as long as the blue half, the case has 4 balls. Any shorter and you’re down to three balls. If the purple half has been turned to its maximum point (where it’s barely visible), the case has anywhere from 1 to 2 golf balls.

Man with amputated fingers since childhood gets life changing 3D-printed Bionic fingers

What technology is good if it is of no use to living souls? Meet Mo Ali, a 40-year-old from Brighton, West Sussex, who has just received the world’s first 3D-printed bionic fingers after toiling all his life with low confidence and major handicap in doing most tasks we would take for granted. He loved cycling right from his childhood when he unfortunately met with an accident in the kitchen, chopping off his fingers in a meat grinder. Not surprisingly, he was bullied by other kids due to this unfortunate disability.

He was always two steps behind others when it came to enjoying bicycle rides as he had to make unfruitful quick fixes like wearing a bike glove stuffed with tissues to have a better grip on the handlebar. Even worse, when he finally got a prosthetic hook operated by the force of the shoulder, prescribed by NHS as a glimmer of hope, things didn’t turn out as planned. The thing was heavy and uncomfortable, making it even more difficult to do the simplest of tasks. After only a day of use, he had to stop using it.

Designer: Open Bionics

It was a compromised life after that as Ali coped with the disability by simply hiding it. Now Bristol-based Open Bionics has employed their advanced 3D printing and scanning technology to develop a prosthetic hand with independently moving fingers, which they call the Hero Gauntlet. According to Ali now he’s able to walk down the road without feeling the need to hide.’ Gaining more confidence in the prosthetic, he now says, “With the Hero Gauntlet, once I have a grip on something I know it’s not going anywhere.”

Mo has experimented with countless options in the last 15 years but with no success or even the slightest hope for his situation. Now with the innovative partial hand prosthetic custom-made for him, life is far better. The team at Open Bionics made use of 3D scanning, printing and modeling technology to craft this partial artificial hand with fingers. According to the developers, the prosthetic will be available for people with limb differences soon. The firm even claims that this gauntlet can help revive the hand functionality of ones born without fingers.

According to co-founder, Samantha Payne, “It’s pure joy to see this piece of engineering have a positive physical and emotional impact on Mo’s life.” For us, it’s heartening to see a life-changing transition that technology has made possible. The world needs more of this!

Each place has unique life forms, from dense forests to icy plains. Inspired by this rich diversity, the BIOMES lighting series brings a new idea to light. It doesn’t just brighten rooms; it adds a touch of nature’s magic. Like a beautiful song, Biomes blends usefulness and beauty, turning ordinary spaces into lively habitats full of potential. Designers: LFD Official – Dongho ShinINGYEONG HWANG, and Jaehwan Kim

In a world where lighting has become universal yet often uninspired, the Biomes lighting series redefines the role of illumination by merging it with the principles of ecological diversity. Rather than simply being functional fixtures, these lights adapt and integrate with the surrounding environment, much like living organisms coexisting within a biome. Unlike conventional lighting options that prioritize functionality over environmental harmony, Biomes lighting takes a holistic approach. By considering the unique characteristics of each space, these fixtures offer not only illumination but also a seamless blend of creativity and functionality.

Biomes lighting embraces diversity in design and functionality. Each fixture is meticulously crafted to suit different environments, ensuring that every space receives the perfect lighting solution tailored to its specific needs. In a rapidly changing world, adaptability is key. This lighting series is designed to evolve alongside its users and their environments, ensuring longevity and relevance amidst shifting trends and preferences. Recognizing that one size does not fit all, Biomes Lighting offers a diverse range of fixtures optimized for various environments. From living rooms to kitchens to studies, each fixture is uniquely tailored to enhance its surroundings.

Fluffy:

Introducing Fluffy, the unique light that acts like a living organism in your home. It’s soft and coiled, blending seamlessly into your living room. When it’s curled up, it gives off a gentle glow, perfect for a cozy atmosphere. But Fluffy can also stretch out, just like a snake, to light up specific spots when you need it to. When it’s tucked away under a table, it shines a soft light on whatever’s on top. But when you pull it out, it adjusts its brightness to suit whatever you’re doing, almost like it’s alive and reacting to you. Fluffy isn’t just a light – it’s a clever mix of nature-inspired design and modern technology, making your home feel more alive and inviting.

EcoTeapot:

EcoTeapot is a smart lighting solution designed for kitchens that combines style and usefulness. It’s made to fit seamlessly with shelves or cabinets, making your kitchen look great while adding practicality. With its magnetic attachments, it stays firmly in place but is also easy to remove when needed. You can adjust it easily to suit your kitchen setup. Plus, it comes with a handy tray attachment perfect for keeping your teapot or cups nearby – that’s why it’s called EcoTeapot! It’s a simple yet clever way to light up your kitchen and keep your essentials organized, all in one neat package.

Biomy:

Biomy is a versatile light designed for places like desks and libraries. It’s not just about lighting – it’s about blending in with nature and our spaces. Biomy looks like it’s part of your desk, and it’s handy for hanging things like headphones. It lights up both the top and bottom of the desk, so you can find things easily if they fall. But remember, it’s more for creating a nice atmosphere than for focused work lighting. With Biomy, you get a cozy glow that makes your space feel calm and productive. It’s a simple way to bring a bit of nature indoors while making your workspace more functional and inviting.

As the world continues to evolve, the Biomes lighting series stands as a testament to the power of innovation inspired by nature. By embracing diversity and adaptability, these fixtures not only illuminate our spaces but also enrich them, creating dynamic ecosystems of light and life. Illuminate your world with Biomes lighting and experience the transformative power of ecological design.

This Website Will Tell You If Your Million-Dollar Idea Or Design Is Ready For Launch

Think of Prelaunch.com as a ‘Shark Tank’ for ideas… but without hungry investors asking difficult questions. The world’s first ‘Market Validation’ platform was designed to help creators better understand what their designs needed to become million-dollar success stories – but now the website is launching an ‘Idea Validation’ feature that lets you understand if your idea has any potential. Thanks to a community panel of more than 200 million people, Prelaunch tests your concept in the marketplace of ideas to see whether it’s ready for the world, helping you fine-tune your design in its nascent stages, so you don’t end up spending all your money on R&D only to realize your product had a flaw, or was targeted at the wrong audience, or worse, was too ahead of its time.

Did you know Apple launched a game console in 1996 called the Pippin? Or that they also launched a touchscreen tablet with a stylus in 1992 called the Newton? How about the fact that Nintendo had its own VR headset back in 1995 called the Virtual Boy? Surely you knew about TwitterPeek, the microblogging platform’s first (and only) hardware device designed for only tweeting, which was launched back in 2008? Chances are you haven’t heard of these products for a good reason – they went as fast as they came, as the companies worked extremely hard to bury these massive failures. Some of these products weren’t well thought-out, others were just a little too early for their time. Most large companies can survive such setbacks… but smaller ones (like the startup Juicero that charged $400 for a device that simply squeezed bags of juice) usually collapse when their products fail. Prelaunch helps mitigate that possibility by allowing you to vet your ideas before you end up walking into a Shark Tank where you get shredded for your product, valuation, or sales. The Prelaunch website helps you get consumer feedback before you even get consumers, so you know whether an idea is worth spending hundreds of thousands (or potentially millions) of dollars into.

The “Idea Validation” feature steps away from the traditional, often tedious process of market research and surveys. Instead, it offers a streamlined, three-step approach for creators to bring their idea to life: describe your product, highlight its killer features, and then flesh out the specifications. The platform then harnesses the power of AI to generate a product landing page, complete with images and descriptions, in mere seconds. Prelaunch has integrated multiple survey panel providers, unified and standardized their processes, and as a result, now has access to 200 million people who are ready to give feedback.

Prelaunch’s entire process takes mere minutes, as opposed to the months (or even years) and financial capital it takes to develop a proof of concept.

Why is this revolutionary? Well, analysis from Prelaunch.com suggests that projects with prototypes stand a significantly better chance of validation and success. This new feature doesn’t just level the playing field; it virtually eliminates it, allowing creators with nothing more than a concept to compete with those who have tangible prototypes. The platform leverages the power of AI to help flesh out the idea, so it can be rapidly tested with a target audience to check for viability.

The platform offers the following metrics to creators:

  • Interest rate: Percent of visitors who liked the idea. It measures how many users clicked the ‘Like’ button or reacted positively to the webpage’s content. A higher rate implies greater audience engagement and appreciation for the content.
  • Survey completion rate: Percent of people who completed the survey out of all people who started the survey.
  • Saves rate: Percent of visitors who provided their email. It measures the number of users who chose to save the webpage for future reference, indicating an intent to revisit the content. A higher rate signifies greater user commitment and interest in the content compared to simply liking it.
  • Rating: Rating of the product from the “Rate this product” survey question.
  • Price: Average, Minimum, and Maximum results from survey questions like – “How much would you like to pay?”
  • Concept Idea Score: Calculated based on a formula that contains several components of interest rate, saves rate, etc.
  • Demographics: Data based on country, age, and gender.

For a limited time, Prelaunch.com is offering this feature for free—a gesture that speaks volumes about their commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation. Prelaunch CEO Narek Vardanyan’s vision is clear: to empower creators to bring their ideas to life by providing valuable feedback as early as possible.

On a lighter note, imagine if famous inventors and creators had access to something like the “Idea Validation” feature. Would Edison have had an easier time convincing people about the light bulb? Would Da Vinci have gotten immediate feedback on his flying machine designs? While we can’t rewrite history, Prelaunch.com is ensuring that the future of innovation is brighter, bolder, and validated by the very people it seeks to inspire. Welcome to the future of creation, where your next big idea doesn’t just have to be a dream.
