Revolutionary Transparent Jacket Uses Infrared to Keep You Warm

Down jackets are fantastic insulators. They trap the warmth and retain heat, keeping us warm even in extreme weather conditions. But downs have adverse effects on wildlife and are not manufactured in the most environmentally friendly manner. In fact, most of the textile industry is ridden with a high environmental footprint. It is waiting for material innovation to decrease the footprints and herald a viable new beginning.

It would be far-stretched to say, but Japanese manufacturer Sumitomo Metal Mining could have a transparent way forward in this possible future. The company has manufactured Solament – a material innovation that produces heat using infrared light conversion. The Down-Less Down Jacket by designer Kosuke Tsumura is the first project that brings the material’s translucent nature and functionality to the fore.

Designer: Kosuke Tsumura

Aptly named Solament, a combination word comprising “solar” and “element,” this is made of near-infrared ray absorbing nanoparticles. The material absorbs the rays present in sunlight and utilizes them to generate heat. Tsumura has used the material properties to create the down jacket silhouette that absorbs infrared light from sunlight and then generates heat through light conversion technology to keep the wearer warm.

Down-Less Down Jacket, as it is called, is like a puffer down jacket made from the translucent innovative material. According to the designer, the jacket provides warmth, comparable (if not better) to a traditional down jacket without using feathers. No animals hurt, no production footprints; such as apparel as this transparent down jacket can be the future of clean, conscious clothing.

Winner of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept for the year 2024, the Down-Less Down Jacket depicts well the material’s potential. Given its transparent nature, it can have many applications and industries it can influence. Sticking with the jacket at hand, the interesting wearable may for now appear directly out of a fashion show, but its benefits can certainly have a transforming effect on the apparel industry.

Prada Designs Spacesuit for the First Woman Astronaut On The Moon. Here’s what is different…

When you think of spacesuits, luxury fashion probably doesn’t come to mind—but Axiom Space and Prada are changing that. Together, they’ve unveiled the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU), a next-generation spacesuit designed for NASA’s Artemis III mission, which will return astronauts to the Moon. This suit represents a groundbreaking shift in both form and function, blending the technical precision required for space exploration with the high-performance materials and design innovations Prada is known for. And it’s more than just a style statement: the AxEMU has been carefully crafted to support the historic lunar landing of astronaut Christina Koch, who will be the first woman to walk on the Moon.

Designers: Axiom Space and Prada

An Unlikely Collab between NASA and Prada

At first glance, the AxEMU may not look like the bulky spacesuits we’ve come to expect. In fact, that’s the point. Designed with a scalable and adaptable architecture, this suit breaks free from the rigid, one-size-fits-all approach of traditional space gear. The AxEMU is built to accommodate a wide range of body types, allowing astronauts from various anthropometric percentiles—meaning different heights, weights, and builds—to feel comfortable and functional in the suit. Whether you’re on the smaller side or fall into the larger percentile, the AxEMU adjusts to ensure maximum mobility, a critical factor for a mission as demanding as Artemis III.

Prada’s expertise in material science plays a key role here. The luxury fashion house worked closely with Axiom engineers to develop an outer layer that not only looks sleek but also performs under extreme conditions. Crafted from a reflective white material, this layer helps regulate temperature by reflecting the sun’s heat while simultaneously protecting the astronaut from lunar dust and radiation. While traditional spacesuits focus on pure functionality, the AxEMU integrates aesthetics with performance, combining Prada’s advanced sewing techniques with Axiom’s life support technology to create something truly revolutionary in both appearance and utility.

High-Tech Meets High-Street Fashion

What truly sets the AxEMU apart from its predecessors is its balance between high-end design and cutting-edge technology. The suit boasts enhanced safety systems, including a regenerable carbon dioxide scrubbing system that ensures astronauts can breathe safely during spacewalks lasting up to eight hours. It also features advanced cooling technology, which is crucial for maintaining comfort in the extremes of the lunar environment. Astronauts will be better equipped to perform complex tasks thanks to upgraded dexterity in the gloves—something previous spacesuits struggled with, often limiting the fine motor control astronauts need to manipulate tools or conduct experiments.

The helmet also offers significant upgrades, with an advanced visor that improves visibility in the harsh lighting conditions of the Moon’s surface. The design of the AxEMU is about more than just protection; it’s about enabling astronauts to push the boundaries of what’s possible in space exploration. Thanks to Prada’s involvement, the suit’s exterior may feel more like high-performance sportswear than traditional space armor. But make no mistake—this is gear built to survive the extreme cold and searing heat of the Moon’s surface, with every detail engineered to keep astronauts safe and functional in one of the most hostile environments known to man.

What Makes The AxEMU So Different?

Compared to existing spacesuits, the AxEMU is a leap forward in versatility and user experience. Most current spacesuits, like NASA’s EMU (Extravehicular Mobility Unit), were designed decades ago, with little adaptation for the variety of missions astronauts now face. The AxEMU, by contrast, is built with a flexible architecture that can evolve for different missions, from the lunar surface to low-Earth orbit. This flexibility allows Axiom Space to customize the suit for a wide range of environments and tasks, whereas older suits were often mission-specific, with limited adaptability.

Safety is another area where the AxEMU shines. Conventional spacesuits are built with basic redundancy, but the AxEMU integrates a more robust set of redundant systems, ensuring multiple fail-safes in life support and mobility functions. This suit also goes beyond standard temperature control, using Prada’s material expertise to provide better heat management, allowing astronauts to remain comfortable during long spacewalks, even in the harsh lunar environment. Furthermore, the AxEMU has been tested with advanced simulations, including underwater testing to mimic the reduced gravity on the Moon, setting a new standard for preparation and reliability.

Designed for Christina Koch: A Spacesuit for the First Woman on the Moon

Christina Koch will make history as the first woman to walk on the Moon, and the AxEMU has been designed with that momentous occasion in mind. While traditional spacesuits were largely designed for male astronauts, the AxEMU has been engineered with inclusivity at its core. One of the key differences lies in its customizability: unlike older suits that often required uncomfortable modifications for female astronauts, the AxEMU offers a better fit right from the start, making adjustments seamless and comfortable for a wide range of body types. This is particularly important for Koch, as a properly fitted suit means enhanced mobility and reduced fatigue during long spacewalks.

Additionally, the suit’s gloves, helmet, and overall design have been tailored for precision, allowing Koch to work more efficiently on the lunar surface. The improved dexterity of the gloves will enable her to conduct more intricate scientific tasks, such as collecting samples and performing experiments, without the restrictions of older spacesuit designs. For Koch, the first woman to explore the Moon, having a suit that adapts to her needs, rather than her adapting to the suit, marks a symbolic and practical step forward in space exploration, ensuring that future missions can be more inclusive.

The AxEMU represents the future of spacesuits—one where technology, design, and inclusivity come together to push the boundaries of human potential. With Christina Koch set to wear this groundbreaking suit during her historic moonwalk, the AxEMU is leading the way into a new era of space exploration, where astronauts of diverse backgrounds, genders, and physiques will have the tools they need to reach new frontiers.

This Shape-shifting 3-in-1 Urban Backpack Is Your Ultimate EDC Carry Companion

I recently watched the first Harry Potter film (following news of Maggie Smith’s demise), and vividly remembered the scene where Harry bought his wand at Ollivanders. Rather than choosing the right wand, Harry was given a wand that ‘chose’ him. It fit his personality, was tailor-made to his greatness, and that moment when the wand and Harry shared a brief exchange of energy – it’s exactly the feeling you get when you discover the right bag. Zero hyperbole, but I’ve got 4 laptop bags in my house right now, ranging across a variety of styles and price points (one of them’s literally from AliExpress)… and neither of them fits my needs perfectly – my current daily driver is a bag that I’d say is 80% perfect.

Finding a bag that ticks all the right boxes is sort of like searching for that ideal wand. It needs to suit your style, be durable, and have enough versatility to keep up with the chaos of life. It’s a relentless pursuit until you stop and discover just the right bag that matches your needs. The folks behind the Mercurius Modular Bag were out to build exactly that bag – a piece of EDC that’s equal parts corporate-classy yet outdoor-durable, with enough modular elements to fit every aspect of your life in. Designed to be carried in 3 different ways, the Mercurius Modular Bag adapts to your style, whether you want a sling, a backpack, or a briefcase, making it your perfect go-to for work, a trip to the cafe for a quick meeting, an outdoor photoshoot, or even a quick getaway for a couple of days to relax.

A Shape-Shifting Bag for Every Moment

What makes the Mercurius Modular Bag stand out at first glance is its ability to switch forms depending on how you want to carry it. This is no one-trick pony—it can be worn as a backpack, slung over the shoulder, or carried like a briefcase. That’s three distinct styles in one, letting you transition from morning commutes to weekend adventures without swapping bags.

When you want to carry it as a backpack, the adjustable shoulder straps come into play. These straps are discreetly tucked away when you’re not using them, keeping the bag’s form neat and streamlined. Once you extend them, the bag sits comfortably on your back, distributing weight evenly to avoid strain. It’s ideal for longer commutes, biking through the city, or when you simply want to be hands-free.

In sling mode, the Mercurius Modular Bag turns into an over-the-shoulder carrier with a single, wide strap that can be adjusted to your height. This mode is perfect for quick access and short walks when you need something more casual than a backpack but not as formal as a briefcase. You can switch to sling mode easily by retracting one of the backpack straps and adjusting the other to act as the crossbody support.

For the briefcase style, simply retract all the straps and use the sturdy, built-in handles located at the top of the bag. This mode is where the bag really takes on a polished, professional look, perfect for meetings or more formal settings. Even though it’s technically the same bag, this transformation gives off a completely different vibe—like you’re carrying a high-end briefcase designed for business, not an everyday commuter’s backpack. The smooth transition between these modes makes it feel like you’re carrying three different bags in one, without the hassle of switching between them.

The Modular Magic Inside

The modular outer design extends to the insides too, with an insightfully compartmentalized layout. The designers have turned the interior into an organized dream, tailored for modern professionals and tech enthusiasts. You’ll find dedicated compartments for just about everything, from chargers to mice, phones, umbrellas, bottles, and even your AirPods. As far as laptops go (you know, the actual goods), this bag fits almost any model you can think of, from ultra-slim MacBook Airs to the large-and-in-charge LG Gram 17-inch. All iPad models slot in just as neatly (as do other tablets), so no matter your tech of choice, this bag has a place for it.

The Mercurius Modular Bag comes in classic black as well.

You can either slide your laptop right into the Mercurius Modular Bag’s dedicated laptop slot, or use an accompanying detachable laptop sleeve made from the same material as the bag itself, but with a built-in RFID-blocking liner for added digital protection. However, the sleeve isn’t just for protecting your laptop or giving it an extra carrying case—it also transforms into a desk pad or mouse pad. It’s a nifty addition for digital nomads or anyone setting up an impromptu workspace at a café or airport lounge. It’s thoughtful features like these that give the Mercurius Modular Bag its edge. The focus is clearly on adaptability—how the bag functions in real life when you’re constantly on the move.

Need more space? No problem. The bag’s expandable design gives you up to 40% more storage capacity, practically doubling your storage capacity. This extra space doesn’t come at the cost of the bag’s sleek profile, though. Even fully expanded, it maintains its minimal design, refusing to bulk up into an eyesore like other expandable bags tend to. Inside, it’s designed to work with modular packs, pouches, and travel cubes—making organization feel less like an afterthought and more like a core feature.

Tailored Extras for the Modern User

It’s the little things that push the Mercurius Modular Bag into the realm of “I need this.” While the bag itself has a built-in organization system, what gives it further meaning are the various pouches and travel cubes that fit perfectly into the remaining empty space, allowing you to carry your gear like never before. Aside from the detachable laptop sleeve, the Mercurius Modular Bag comes with an EDC pouch that has a magnet-based system that lets it snap onto the bag sort of like how a MagSafe accessory snaps onto your iPhone, aligning and positioning itself perfectly. The EDC Bag is ideal for any everyday carry, although Mercurius Modular Bag also comes with a Tech Pouch for tech accessories and a Bath Pouch for toiletries. All three modules fit perfectly into the backpack’s empty space, allowing you to compartmentalize your belongings in a meaningful way (after all you wouldn’t want your toothpaste and shampoo near your tech gear, right?) Furthermore, the Mercurius Modular Bag also provides a square-shaped Packing Cube for clothes that can be used with the bag, along with the Bath Pouch. In a way, you get to build your bags based on whether you’re heading out for a meeting, for something specific like an outdoor photoshoot, or a 2-day getaway.

Other clever details include things like a luggage pass-through feature, which is a godsend for frequent travelers. Simply slip it over your suitcase handle, and maneuvering through airports becomes a breeze. If you want to travel light, you can ditch the Mercurius entirely and just carry the laptop sleeve around with you, thanks to an add-on strap that turns it into a side-sling. The EDC Pouch can be independently carried like a man-purse too, thanks to that same clip-on shoulder strap.

Made from Cactus Leather, Built to Withstand Anything

The Mercurius Modular Bag doesn’t stop at smart functionality; it’s also eco-conscious. Instead of opting for typical leather or synthetic fabrics, Mercurius chose a cactus-based faux leather—an unexpected, yet refreshing choice. This material is as tough as it is sustainable. It’s water-resistant, durable, and designed to hold up to everyday wear and tear, whether you’re navigating city streets or dealing with a bit of rain. The combination of their unique design and cactus leather also gives the bag a luxe feel, so you won’t feel like you’re sacrificing style for sustainability. In fact, brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Porsche all use the same cactus-based leather alternative, embracing both durability along with material innovation. Meanwhile, the company does plan to offer a Smooth Calf Leather version of the bag to backers and users in the future. Alongside the durable outer material, heavy-duty zippers reinforce the design, ensuring the bag holds up under pressure, and a non-toxic suede inner further ensures your devices stay protected from elements as well as rough use. Furthermore, the cubes and modules are made from 100% recycled plastic fabric (the same fabric used by Prada in their high-end bags) echoing the sustainable approach.

The Mercurius Modular Bag is one of many I’ve seen over the years, but the one thing it does more than any of those bags is give me that ‘Harry Potter’s Wand’ feeling – it’s sustainable, durable, expandable, modular, stylish, and is designed to carry literally every object you’d want to carry. It comes in two rather evergreen colors – a tanned brown and a black; and can be carried in a variety of ways – as a sling, a backpack, a briefcase, or even strapped to your luggage. If that isn’t your definition of a perfectly designed bag, I don’t know what is…

Patek Philippe’s Radical Design: Visionary or Misstep? The Controversial Cubitus

While still awaiting the official announcement from Patek Philippe, it’s important to consider whether this new shape signals a significant shift in their long-term strategy. Unlike Audemars Piguet’s approach with the Royal Oak, Patek seems intent on avoiding a singular ‘hero’ model that defines the brand. Instead, the new Cubitus Collection marks a bold move to diversify their offering and redefine what an iconic Patek Philippe watch can be. The Cubitus presents a striking divergence from the brand’s traditionally round silhouettes, embracing a distinct octagonal case that demands attention. Despite this fresh design direction, the Cubitus remains true to Patek’s reputation for refined elegance while also exploring new design frontiers.

Designer: Patek Philippe

The watch’s octagonal form gives a sense of geometry and balance, subtly echoing architectural elements. Its brushed metal finish on the case edges contrasts effectively with the polished flat surfaces, adding depth while maintaining a streamlined and sophisticated profile. The careful craftsmanship allows light to dance across the watch’s varied surfaces, adding an elegant interplay of reflections that subtly enhances its visual appeal.

Dial Design and Complexity

The dial showcases a subtle complexity. It features a deep blue guilloché texture with horizontal wave-like lines, a finish that adds visual interest and conveys a sense of luxury and depth. The indices are applied markers that appear to float over the dial, contributing to a visual clarity that Patek Philippe watches are renowned for.

The day-night indicator is located at the lower half of the dial, adding a celestial element to the otherwise highly practical layout. The integration of a moon phase complication further highlights the watch’s duality—utilitarian in its functionality but romantic in its conception. The oversized double window date, positioned prominently below 12 o’clock, ensures easy readability, blending practicality and sophistication.

Case and Crown

The Cubitus case itself appears crafted in a premium brushed metal, likely white gold or platinum, which gives it an imposing presence while remaining tasteful. The case features intricate facets and architectural lines that enhance the overall visual complexity, demonstrating meticulous craftsmanship and adding a sense of bold sophistication.

Compared to iconic Patek Philippe models like the Nautilus or the Calatrava, the Cubitus takes a different path with its unique shape. The Calatrava is known for its classic round elegance, and the Nautilus for its seamless bracelet design. In contrast, the Cubitus goes for a bold, angular look that suggests Patek wants to expand its image and explore a more adventurous side of its design legacy.

The crown’s design complements the rest of the case, with serrations for a firm grip and a subtle integration into the case body. Its understated design follows Patek’s approach of less is more, ensuring no distractions from the watch’s other carefully chosen features.

Strap and Buckle

The strap, likely a textured alligator leather or high-quality rubber, is a deep shade of blue that seamlessly matches the dial, maintaining visual unity throughout. The integration of the strap into the case appears flawless, which enhances both the comfort on the wrist and the aesthetic cohesiveness of the design. Although the buckle or clasp isn’t visible yet, it can be assumed that Patek will ensure it provides security and comfort without compromising on the luxury feel.

A New Era for Patek Philippe?

As we await the official announcement from Patek Philippe, it’s interesting to consider if this new shape is part of a broader strategy. Unlike Audemars Piguet, which has leaned heavily on the Royal Oak as its flagship model, Patek seems to be moving in a direction that resists the notion of a single iconic watch. The Cubitus could be Patek’s way of adding diversity to their lineup, offering a fresh perspective on what makes a Patek Philippe watch stand out.

The slogan, “You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely take care of it for the next generation,” has become synonymous with the brand’s identity. This slogan reflects Patek Philippe’s dedication to quality, heritage, and timeless value. This message highlights the brand’s aim to create timepieces that represent wealth and status while also serving as heirlooms meant to be passed down through generations.

The choice of language here reflects Patek’s emphasis on craftsmanship and heritage over fleeting trends. It aims to appeal to individuals who value permanence and legacy—those who see a Patek Philippe watch as a lasting investment, both in terms of material value and in emotional and familial significance. The Cubitus Collection, with its carefully considered design, embodies this idea perfectly; it’s an heirloom piece meant to be cherished and appreciated not just in the present but also by future generations.

The Patek Philippe Cubitus Collection stands out by blending avant-garde design cues with the brand’s signature sophistication. Its octagonal case, moonphase, and blue guilloché dial push the boundaries of what is expected from Patek Philippe, yet every detail feels deliberate and rooted in the brand’s values of elegance and quality. While still awaiting the official announcement from Patek Philippe, it’s worth questioning whether this new shape is part of their long-term strategy. Some believe Patek is purposefully avoiding a single ‘hero’ watch, unlike Audemars Piguet with the Royal Oak. This timepiece is not merely a watch; it’s an apprec

Ditch the Socks: Discover How to Master the Sockless Shoe Trend Without the Blisters!

Happy Sunday, and welcome to Sneakers Sunday! Are you ready to discover the secrets to mastering the sockless look? Ditching socks can completely transform your style, but there are some crucial tips you need to know to avoid discomfort and keep your feet looking fresh. Let’s dive in and find out how to make this trend work for you.

Certain shoes are designed specifically for the sockless look, while others might not be as forgiving. We’ll explore specific models that fit this look and discuss when going without socks is the right move.

Fashionable Sockless Footwear Choices

When it comes to going sockless, the right shoes are essential. You want footwear that looks great, is comfortable, and won’t leave your feet blistered or sweaty. Here are some go-to models for a sockless style:

1. Loafers: Tod’s Gommino Driving Shoes

Loafers are a staple for those who want a sleek, effortless look. One of the best options for going sockless is the Tod’s Gommino Driving Shoe or Salvatore Ferragamo Parigi Driving Shoe. Known for their soft leather and signature rubber pebble outsole, they mold to your foot for a comfortable fit. The Gommino loafers offer a refined Italian style that works well for casual and more formal settings. Pair them with tailored chinos or slim jeans for a look that feels polished without being too stuffy.

2. Boat Shoes: Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original

When you think of boat shoes, Sperry’s Top-Sider Authentic Original is the gold standard. Designed to handle the moisture of a day at sea, these shoes are made from leather and feature a non-marking rubber outsole with superior grip. Their breathable construction makes them ideal for sockless wear during warmer months. They’re perfect for a day on the water or casual weekend outings like a BBQ or beach day.

3. Low-Profile Sneakers: Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66

For a contemporary, minimalist take, Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 is a fantastic sneaker for going sockless. These sneakers are made in Japan with high-quality materials such as leather and a sleek, low-profile design. Their understated look pairs well with shorts or rolled-up pants and keeps your outfit effortlessly clean. These sneakers are breathable enough to wear comfortably without socks, making them great for casual occasions or walking around the city.

4. Casual Slip-Ons: Vans Classic Slip-On Sneakers

For a laid-back summer vibe, espadrilles are hard to beat. The Vans Classic Slip-On Sneakers offer lightweight canvas construction with a classic rope sole. They’re perfect for beach days, outdoor events, or any warm-weather situation where you want your feet to stay cool and comfortable. Since they’re made to be worn without socks, they fit naturally into a sockless wardrobe.

How to Stay Comfortable and Avoid Blisters

Skipping socks can lead to discomfort if you’re not prepared, especially when dealing with new shoes. Blisters, sweaty feet, and general discomfort are people’s main issues when going sockless. However, there are steps you can take to prevent these problems.

Break in Your Shoes: Before wearing them without socks, break in your shoes with socks for a few days. This softens the material and reduces friction that could otherwise cause blisters when you go sockless.

Use No-Show Socks: For a sockless appearance but added protection, no-show socks are a must. Brands like Bombas and Stance offer high-quality, moisture-wicking, no-show socks that give your feet a layer of protection while staying hidden. Look for options with silicone grips at the heel to keep them from slipping down inside your shoe.

Apply Foot Powder or Antiperspirant: To manage sweat and reduce friction, apply foot powder or antiperspirant to your feet before slipping into your shoes. Products like Gold Bond or Certain Dri can help absorb moisture and keep your feet dry throughout the day, preventing discomfort and blisters.

Proper Shoe Care When Going Sockless

Without socks to absorb moisture, your shoes will need extra care to stay fresh and odor-free. Here’s how to maintain your sockless footwear:

Clean Your Shoes Regularly: After each wear, wipe down the interior and exterior of leather shoes like the Tod’s Gommino loafers with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner. This removes sweat and oils that can build up and cause odor or damage. For canvas shoes like the Vans Classic Slip-On Sneakers, you can machine wash them on a gentle cycle but always let them air dry fully before wearing them again.

Rotate Your Shoes: To avoid wearing the same pair of shoes every day, rotate your footwear to give each pair a chance to air out and recover. Shoes that don’t have time to dry out can develop bacteria and odor problems, so giving them a break is key.

Use Shoe Trees: Inserting cedar shoe trees into leather shoes like the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 helps maintain their shape and absorb excess moisture. Cedar also has natural antibacterial properties that help reduce odor.

Deodorize Your Shoes: Use foot sprays or insert deodorizing pouches to help keep your shoes smelling fresh. Products like Sof Sole Sneaker Balls can be placed inside your shoes overnight to neutralize odors and absorb moisture.

Occasions for Going Sockless

Knowing which shoes to wear is half the battle, but understanding when to go sockless is just as important. The occasion will often determine whether leaving the socks behind is a smart move.

Casual Settings: Going sockless works best in informal environments like beach outings, backyard gatherings, or casual day trips. In these laid-back situations, shoes like the Sperry Top-Siders or Vans Classic Slip-Ons fit the bill perfectly. These shoes, designed for warmer weather, help keep your feet cool and stylish without needing socks.

Semi-Formal Occasions: You can push the sockless look into more formal settings if done thoughtfully. For example, pairing Tod’s Gommino Loafers or Salvatore Ferragamo Parigi Loafers with tailored pants or a smart blazer can create a polished look that still feels relaxed. This can work in creative offices or for dinner outings where a more refined but comfortable style is called for.

Strictly Casual: Sneakers like the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 are perfect for casual outings where comfort meets style. Think weekends in the city, brunch with friends, or walking through parks. These shoes offer the flexibility to keep things simple and sockless while maintaining a sharp aesthetic.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana is a special creation that embodies the spirit of both brands. It’s a celebration of one of the most iconic partnerships in motorsport history—TAG Heuer and Porsche—brought to life through an exquisite design that pays homage to the legendary Carrera Panamericana race. Limited to only 255 pieces, this 42mm watch is a tribute to the boldness and adventurous spirit that have defined these two brands for decades.

Taking inspiration from the Porsche 550 Spyder, a car that left its mark on the 1954 Carrera Panamericana, this new timepiece seamlessly reflects the character of TAG Heuer’s watchmaking mastery and Porsche’s racing heritage. The skeletonized dial draws inspiration from the 550 Spyder’s iconic wheels, while the silver-tone nods to the base color of the victorious 1954 racer. Accents in bold yellow, alongside deep black subdials, recall the ’55’ number that adorned the car, enhanced by the striking livery images showcasing the number ’55’ throughout this timepiece, reinforcing the link to the original race’s winning details.

The dial offers more than a tribute—it’s an immersive experience. The shimmering effect and grained textures resemble the metallic bodywork of the Spyder and the rugged texture of asphalt, making the Carrera a stunning reflection of automotive and watchmaking craftsmanship. Encased within a steel 42mm framework and highlighted by a domed Glassbox sapphire crystal, the elements shine in a way that demands attention.

Design Breakdown: Dial, Case, Movement, and Strap

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana radiates a design philosophy that merges functionality with the storytelling power of motorsport history. The skeletonized dial is the first striking feature—it’s a visual delight and a tribute to the engineering brilliance of the Porsche 550 Spyder. The rim-inspired architecture that frames the dial pays homage to the 550 Spyder’s wheels, bridging a crucial element of motorsport directly onto your wrist. The openwork dial design draws the eye toward the intricate chronograph and the tourbillon mechanism, demonstrating TAG Heuer’s refined watchmaking skills.

The contrast between the shiny surfaces and the textured grains enhances the beauty of this Carrera. The shimmering effects seem to change dynamically with the lighting—much like how sunlight interacts with a car’s bodywork, an intentional design nod that mimics the chrome accents of classic Porsche sports cars. The dial’s silver, black, and yellow contrast is evocative of the bold ’55’ number on the original 1954 Spyder, with the yellow chronograph hands capturing a sense of movement and vibrancy. It’s not just about color, but the strategic use of shades and textures to convey speed and precision.

The caseback provides an intimate view of the in-house calibre TH20-09, a reminder that TAG Heuer’s expertise is just as much about what’s beneath the surface as what’s on display. The intricate engraving, ‘Swiss Made Since 1860’, adds a layer of heritage, while the Spyder engraving on the profile of the case is a subtle nod to Porsche’s legacy. The TH20-09 calibre features an automatic column-wheel chronograph mechanism along with a tourbillon, highlighting TAG Heuer’s mastery of complex horology. The oscillating weight, crafted to resemble a Porsche steering wheel, ties the watch’s inspiration back to Porsche’s racing heritage.

The domed Glassbox sapphire crystal crowns the dial and provides a broad visual experience without distortion. It almost feels like it amplifies every detail underneath, giving the watch an added depth. It resembles the clear windshield of a racing car, providing an unobstructed view of all the dial’s activities. This wide-angle crystal reinforces the sense of openness, enabling a full appreciation of the Carrera’s mechanical intricacies.

Turning to the strap, the perforated calfskin leather in black with a vibrant yellow lining embodies that classic rally aesthetic while offering a distinctly contemporary twist. The stitching is clearly inspired by historical rally straps, but the updated contrast elements add a sophisticated touch that is more attuned to today’s design language. It’s not merely functional—it’s integral to how the watch carries the Panamericana’s spirit. The yellow detailing along the edges mirrors the vibrant accents on the dial, providing a balanced, visually pleasing symmetry.

Final Thoughts

With a price of CHF 35,000 (~$40,000) and availability starting in October 2024, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana offers exclusivity and an exquisite nod to both brands’ storied partnership.

Coperni x Disney tie-up unveils water-printed Ariel Swipe Bag

As someone who always carries a lot of stuff wherever I go, I am not that much a fan of small bags. But if ever there will come a day when I’ll be comfortable just bringing a phone, small wallet, and a lipstick with me, the Coperni Swipe bag is on my shortlist of bags I’d like to have. Their latest version was unveiled at the Spring/Summer 2025 show held at Disneyland Paris, and it is a watery creation.

Designer: Coperni

The Ariel Swipe bag is inspired by The Little Mermaid and the “stunt” here is that it was created underwater. Through gravity-free 3D printing by Rapid Liquid Print, the bag is created from platinum-cured, recyclable silicone and is printed inside a water-based gel. The process differs from other traditional 3D printing methods as they “draw” the objects that are suspended in the gel so these soft, stretchable designs are not weighed down by gravity.

A video shows the printing process with a thin and sharp needle pushing through the gel and starting to create the shape of the bag that is of course, colored blue. When it reaches the top, the two loose ends are joined together to create the handle. A hand then reaches out to pull the bag from the gel and thus, the Ariel Swipe bag is born an supposedly ready to use. They say there’s no extensive post-processing needed so it saves materials and time.

There is no news yet when the bag will be available in its brand store and retail stores. But it’s sure to be another Coperni x Disney best-seller, just like the Mickey Mouse swipe bag that they previously released. It will probbly be around that price as well which is of course pretty expensive.
