Porsche is Building its First Residential Tower in Bangkok with 22 Luxury Duplex Apartments

A car is simply a room on wheels, right? Or that’s what the oversimplified definition of a car is… by that very standard, all car companies might as well be architecture firms; and it seems like Porsche may be taking that theory rather seriously. The automotive marque has unveiled plans for a residential building in Bangkok, its first in Asia, following previous ventures in Miami, USA and Stuttgart, Germany. This new development is a collaborative effort between Porsche Design (carmaker’s luxury goods sub-brand) and Ananda Development, with the aim of creating an ultra-luxury living experience in the heart of Thailand’s bustling capital. Standing 95 meters tall, the 21-story tower is set to feature 22 exclusive duplex and quadplex apartments, each promising to embody the essence of Porsche’s design philosophy.

The tower’s design is as striking as one would expect from a brand synonymous with cutting-edge automotive design. The building’s facade is sleek and modern, with a spiral ramp at its center, reminiscent of the winding roads often navigated by Porsche’s high-performance vehicles. This ramp not only serves as a striking architectural feature but also leads to communal garages within the building, which Porsche has aptly named “passion spaces.” These garages are designed to be more than just parking spaces; they are envisioned as social hubs where residents can display their car collections and interact with fellow automobile enthusiasts.

Well, arguably one of the most innovative features of the Porsche Design Tower Bangkok is its fully automated terrace door system. The doors fold and hinge open from the top, creating an expansive terrace space that effortlessly extends the living area of each apartment. Caviar Galaxy Z Flip 6 Elegance Edition Rides on the Latest Tennis Fashion Trend

There’s a reason why many people find fashion to be inscrutable, and not just the haute couture variety you see on runways. Fashion trends come and go, and sometimes they take inspiration from the most unexpected sources. One of the newest, for example, was spurred by the combination of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the film “Challengers” starring Zandaya, and the ongoing US Open tournament. Yes, this is the so-called “tennis core” fashion trend, and custom luxury phone maker Caviar is only too happy to jump on that bandwagon with extremely limited editions of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 that’s designed to show off your sports affinity, fashion tastes, and, of course, your affluence.

Tennis core is simple to grasp yet hard to execute. As it revolves around the aesthetics of clothes worn in tennis matches, it has to strike a balance between being sporty and being casual. For Caviar, however, the trend is easy enough to interpret and implement, focusing on the visuals and forms most easily associated with the sport: the tennis ball.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 that’s part of this “Elegance” tennis core collection bears curved accents on its back that resemble the lines of a tennis ball, at least if you actually knew beforehand what the design is meant to represent. Depending on the color of the model, the accents can be covered in either pure 24-carat rose gold or 22-carat silver. Regardless of the color, however, both designs flaunt 16 22mm-diameter Swarovski crystals, because this wouldn’t be a Caviar phone if it didn’t have any.

The phones have colorways that are reminiscent of some of the popular colors for tennis courts. Emerald is probably the most familiar hue, with deep and rich greens that are not unlike the grassy type of some courts. Sapphire is perhaps a little less common but blue is used to give better contrast, especially considering a tennis ball is traditionally light green in color. Both models use premium Chevre leather, the very same kind used by luxury brand Hermes for its products.

It might not be as outlandish as Caviar’s other custom designs, but the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Elegance edition still fetches an extremely steep price starting at $8,777 for the 256GB Emerald model and $9,770 for the 256GB Sapphire variant. And in typical Caviar fashion, these phones will be made in a very limited run, only 99 pieces each, making sure that owning one earns you a spot not only among fashionistas but as a true tennis aficionado as well.

Living Vehicle GT39 rival’s interiors of luxury yachts, offers freedom of off-grid living on the road

Before the pandemic, we lived in a generously simple world with mobile homes catering to the bare minimum needs on the road. A bedroom, convertible living room, kitchenette, dry bathroom, and that was almost it. Most of the interior was paneled with wood and the exterior was done in aluminum for durability. Now, with the likes of Living Vehicle, a Santa Barbara, CA-based boutique travel trailer builder – that has been marrying luxury and sustainability over the years – is redefining the word: luxury mobile living with the new GT series.

Electric trailers by Living Vehicle have been close competitors to the Airstreams. These models are designed to sell a way of life that in Living Vehicle’s ideology is “sustainable, off-grid, and luxurious.” The company has ventured into a new category with the GT series fifth wheelers. These models: the flagship GT39 and the smaller-sized GT32, combine off-grid fierceness with luxury that matches the feel of a yacht on land.

Living Vehicle has always focused on developing off-grid mobile trailers that can be used for full-time living, the Cyber Trailer for instance. The GT39 may be a different unit in approach, but its fundamentals are aligned with the company’s signature style. The fifth wheeler measures 39-foot long and features an architecturally designed interior. It fits the master bedroom – with a king-size bed and panoramic windows – in the gooseneck and is apt for sleeping four to six people with a living room that transforms into a guest sleeper.

The Living Vehicle GT39 model tips the scale at 16000 lbs but has, and we cannot iterate enough, a motor yacht-style luxurious interior comprising 8-foot ceilings, hardwood flooring, powder-coated aluminum cabinets, and top-of-the-line appliances. The living room with reclining seats has a 70-inch home theater system and fireplace, just adjacent is a chef’s kitchen attached to a bar that doubles as a workspace. Next up with the bathroom with a composting toilet and a teak-paneled shower.

Stretching the interior luxury into the exterior landscapes is the fold-down deck of the GT39, which is spacious enough to be used as an outdoor dining space or an outdoor kitchen at the campsite. The fold-down deck is covered with a folding awning. The interesting element of this yacht for the road is the option of installing anywhere between 2.2 and 5 kilowatts of solar panels on the roof. Stretching the entire length and breadth of the LV model, the solar cells can extend onto the awnings for additional coverage. To enhance the self-sustaining capability, this fifth-wheeler’s solar system is supported by a hybrid backup power generator and complemented by a battery pack of 72kWh.

Since the GT39 is meant for permanent, long-term living on the road, it comes with four-season climate control, along with smart home technology, and Starlink connectivity. Limited Edition Urwerk EMC SR-71 watch has parts of the legendary Blackbird spy aircraft

Urwerk is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the EMC series this year with the release of 10 limited edition pieces that are made out of fuselage pieces of the Lockheed SR-71 “Blackbird” aircraft. Hence, the naming convention “EMC SR-71” which pays homage to the mechanical precision of the famous timepiece that allows the wearer to adjust the mechanical precision offset by the small environment irregularities over time.

The exclusive masterpiece is made in collaboration with aerospace and lifestyle brand Dreamland. This timepiece has been on the idea sheet for as long as four years – back when watch designer Jason Sarkoyan and aeronautical engineer Dr. Roman Sperl inaugurated the Dreamland brand.

The idea of the Urwerk EMC SR-71 materialized when Dreamland got hold of the SR-71 fuselage’s titanium alloy parts. For this limited edition run, the composite of aluminum, vanadium, silicon, iron, and molybdenum metals is melted to create the folding crank handle of the built-in generator of the watch. The timepiece embraces the angular style of EMC watches to replicate the look of reconnaissance aircraft cockpit instrument panels. Urwerk uses the trusted in-house Caliber UR-EMC manual-wind movement (at 28,800vph frequency) that is a traditional Swiss lever escapement combined with an integrated timing machine. Thus, the watch has a power reserve of 80 hours before needing another cranking. The raw feel of the SR-71 is apparent from the four screws securing the case back.

The matte finish SR-71 has a dial measuring 47.55mm wide by 17.58mm thick, with a profile of 49.57mm in the lug-to-lug direction. The dials indicate the hours, minutes and seconds counter in the bottom right corner. The top left corner dial shows the amount of deviation in movement that can be actuated over a period of time. The power reserve of the watch is indicated by a small arc-shaped register on the left-hand side. Adjacent is a larger arc showing the δ performance indicator.

Olive green Velcro-style straps of the timepiece are mounted to the articulated lugs, unlike other conventional watches. The upper frame and the directional arrow for the generator crank are finished in bright yellow to go with the instrument panel theme. Since the 30-meter water-resistant Urwerk EMC SR-71 entangles Blackbird’s eventful history and carries actual parts from the spy aircraft, the $175,000 price makes complete sense!

Happy Wristwatch Wednesday! Boy, do I have a treat for you today. Over the weekend, as a guest of Rolex at Monterey Car Week, I had the rare opportunity to see and briefly try on the Rolex Le Mans Daytona. This was an encounter with a piece of history, capturing Rolex’s long-standing relationship with motorsport, especially the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans. The experience was made even more special knowing that the watch I tried on belongs to an owner and is the only one in all of Argentina, adding a unique layer of exclusivity to the moment.

When I first laid eyes on the Le Mans edition, it was impossible not to be drawn to its unique details that set it apart from any other Daytona. The “100” marker on the bezel immediately caught my attention, a subtle yet powerful tribute to the 24 Hours of Le Mans centenary. This watch is a celebration of an iconic moment in motorsport history.

The dial, with its clean layout and striking red accents, evokes the spirit of the race. The subtle red details, while understated, carry a certain weight, reminding me of the legendary teams that have graced the track at Le Mans. The watch’s overall design is unmistakably Daytona, but it has nuances only a true enthusiast would fully appreciate.

The sub-dials on the Rolex Le Mans Daytona are a defining feature, reflecting its historical roots and homage to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unlike traditional Daytona models, this edition features sub-dials with a layout reminiscent of the classic Daytona models from the 1960s, particularly the black and white “panda” dial design that has become iconic among collectors. However, what truly distinguishes these sub-dials is their functionality. Powered by the exclusive caliber 4132, these sub-dials include a chronograph function that tracks hours over an entire 24-hour period rather than the standard 12-hour format. This feature directly ties the watch to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, allowing it to track the entire race duration. This innovation adds practicality and historical significance to the timepiece.
