From a human’s perspective, the scratching behavior of cats is often regarded as destructive. Cats are naturally inclined to scratch almost anything they can see, from fabric sofas and leather seats to stereos, leading to frustration among pet owners. However, what if we could view this behavior from a different perspective? Catvas invites us to re-examine this norm, encouraging reflection on the evolving relationship between humans and their companion animals.

For cats, scratching is more than just a habit; it is essential for maintaining their well-being. Scratching helps cats remove the outer layer of their nails, vent their emotions, and leave pheromones. These pheromones create a sense of territory and emotional connection with their environment. As these pheromones accumulate, cats develop a stronger emotional bond with the objects they scratch.

Many cat owners cherish various cat-related objects, from cat hair to toys. However, scratching boards are often overlooked as they are typically viewed as consumables. Catvas challenges this perception by transforming the idea of “consumables” into “artwork,” fulfilling people’s desire to collect and preserve meaningful artifacts from their pets.

This scratching board revolutionizes the concept of scratching by transforming it from a ‘destructive’ act into a ‘creative’ process. This innovative product offers both cats and their owners the opportunity to co-create their living spaces. The specially designed double-layered fabric of Catvas gradually reveals a unique, painting-like effect as cats scratch. These replaced fabric scratching panels are no longer discarded as waste; instead, they become artistic memorials, preserving the traces of the cat’s life in a visually captivating manner.

The L-shaped structure of Catvas is designed to fit the natural stretching habits of cats, while the removable double-layered fabric panel allows for easy replacement. As the cat scratches, the underlying fabric is exposed, creating a unique visual effect reminiscent of a painting. These customized panels can be framed and used as home decorations, adding a personalized artistic touch to the living space. With pride, you can tell your guests “My cat made that”.

It is constructed from mostly recyclable materials, including wood, aluminum, and fabric made from old cloth and mycorrhiza. Its manufacturing-friendly design features easy-to-assemble components, significantly reducing packaging costs and waste during transport. The specially designed multi-layered fabric has a thinner top layer, making it easier for cats to scratch and reveal the underlying art.

Xiaomi Embraces Shargeek’s Transparent Cyberpunk Aesthetic With New 25,000mAh Power Bank

Transparency is quite literally all the rage, with brands like Sharge (previously known as Shargeek), Nothing, and even Beats by Dre adopting the style. Xiaomi seems to be boarding the same train too, with leaked images showing that the company is working on a massive 25,000mAh power bank powerful enough to charge your phone nearly 5 times from 0 to 100, or even charge your laptop twice. This new futuristic design features a transparent front panel, offering a glimpse of the internal charging circuitry. In fact, a lesser-known Xiaomi subsidiary by the name of CUKTECH has been selling similar transparent-themed power banks. Now under the Xiaomi brand label, this upcoming power bank (which was leaked on Chinese social media site Weibo by user @体验more) will likely see a more mainstream audience, going head to head with brands like Sharge, while also boasting fast charging capabilities.

Both Xiaomi’s upcoming power bank and CUKTECH’s own 25,000mAh power bank share many similarities. They both offer a 25,000mAh capacity, a trio of USB ports (two USB-C and one USB-A), and a handy color display on the front panel. However, Xiaomi pulls ahead with a maximum fast-charging output of 212W, surpassing the CUKTECH one’s 210W limit.

Delving deeper into the specs, the leaked information reveals that the first USB-C port outputs a maximum of 140W, while the second offers 45W. The USB-A port isn’t left behind either, providing up to 120W of quick charging. With this versatility, the power bank can breathe life into a wide range of devices, including even a demanding laptop like the MacBook Pro 16.

Another noteworthy detail is the 90.08 Wh rating mentioned in the leaked pictures. This ensures the power bank complies with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations for safe air travel, which possibly means this won’t be just a China-specific release.

While there’s no official word on pricing or availability yet, the CUKTECH 20 power bank offers a possible reference point. Priced at $129.99 and available internationally, we can expect Xiaomi’s offering to be priced similarly and likely launch globally as well.

Fractal Design unveils maiden gaming chair and over-ear headphones

At Computex 2024 Fractal Design has unveiled its first-ever gaming chair and pair of headphones that should have you interested. There’s a belief around the tech community that the best gaming chair isn’t a pure gaming chair – thus, your quest for the endgame chair for playing games should end at the Refine.

Keeping things to the basics with ergonomic comfort and intuitive controls at the helm, the Refine gaming chair brings the assuring comfort of high-end office chairs to the fore. According to Fractal Design, the gaming chair has mesh fabric and Alcantara finishes to get you through long gaming sessions without any discomfort. Refine is going to be available this summer in five different variants – ranging from $550 up to $890.

Secretlab fans will write off this one just at first glance since the chair seems to be from the Herman Miller clan. But there are subtle design distinctions that will entice gamers into buying this one. The tall mesh seatback (Fractal is also offering a variant with solid padded fabric) and the ergonomic freedom of an office chair (something I love) are a good fusion of both worlds.

There is adjustable lower back support, supportive head cushion, impressive lumbar support and 4D armrests with a four-point adjustment system. This gives the user freedom to adjust the forward/back position and height rotation too. For maximum body comfort, Refine can be tilted and locked in 13 different positions. The mesh version will cost $550 and the most premium Alcantra variant will set you back $890.

Talking of the Scape headphones, the USP is the included wireless charging stand. Quality of life features such as flip-to-mute microphone that’s detachable should tilt the buying decision in the brand’s favor that’s if they manage to provide quality audio drivers and decent battery life of around 30 hours. Although the details of the drivers is not known, Fractal confirms the over-ear headset supports Bluetooth 5.3 and connectivity via a low-latency dongle. The headphones will come with ambient lighting and audio presets that can be tweaked. The audio accessory will be available later this year in two color options for $200.

Apologies for today’s Sneakers Sunday feature being replaced, but there’s a compelling reason: Apple’s special event, WWDC 2024, is taking place tomorrow. Given the significance of this event, I’ll be attending WWDC to provide firsthand insights and experiences. The keynote begins at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) on Monday, June 10, and I’ll be on the ground for two days to dive deeper into the announcements and hopefully experience some of the new features Apple will unveil.

Constructing and putting together precise and intricate LEGO structures as a child was one of my favorite hobbies, and to be honest even now. I could spend hours sitting and creating the little builds, and I still hold those memories dear to my heart. I’m sure most of us have nostalgic and heartwarming memories associated with LEGO blocks from our childhood, as well as the not-so-heartwarming ones of stepping on them with our feet and feeling an insane amount of pain shoot up our legs. But nowadays LEGO is no longer considered child’s play. Master builders and LEGO enthusiasts all over the world have been creating impressive LEGO builds, and we’ve curated a few of our favorites for you!

1. Brooklyn 99 LEGO Build

I love Brooklyn 99, it is one of my favorite TV shows, and it has the capability to put a smile on my face anytime. LEGO creator Ben Fankhauser immortalized this amazing show with his lovely LEGO build which captures the 99th precinct – all rooms and characters included. The set is quite detailed and intricate, and it includes loads of details – from the bullpen to the captain’s office, and the printer room too. Secret details such as Holt’s pet corgi Cheddar were included too.

2. LEGO Zelda

LEGO unveiled a Zelda-themed playset, and it captures the Great Deku Tree in a fascinating 2-in-1 build. The playset lets you build a variant of the tree in its early stages, or even in full bloom as seen in the 2017 game – Breath of The Wild. This set also has a bunch of familiar characters like Zelda, Link, and more! Consisting of 2500 pieces, the Great Deku Tree provides an interesting 2-in-1 build experience, letting you build the iconic tree.

3. LEGO Tetris SOLID

Say hello to the LEGO version of Tetris Solid. LEGO builder ‘victorvey300’ paid tribute to Tetris on its 40th anniversary by building a LEGO Ideas set. It includes a box with a lid that serves as the game’s screen. Bricks are placed in a container below, and the controls are located on the bottom right. The top right functions as the leaderboard. Once the box is closed shut, the bricks don’t get lost, they’re safely placed within.

4. LEGO Yamaha MT-10 SP

You can now build a LEGO Yamaha MT-10 SP and have a roaring LEGO automotive. You need to put it together with the same attention to detail as all Technic creations. Putting together the build piece by piece brings an extreme sense of satisfaction. It features realistic function, movement of chain drive, 3-speed transmission, 4-cylinder engine, working steering, and front and rear suspension.

5. LEGO Barad-dûr

Lord of the Ring fans should rejoice as LEGO has recently released a LEGO set themed on Barad-dûr – which is Sauron’s iconic stronghold. The set contains 5471 pieces, and it includes the tower with the Eye of Sauron topped on it. This sinister eye keeps a lookout on his domain. The tower features four main sections – a prison, a throne room, a kitchen, and an armory. If you’re lucky enough to get the set before 7, you also get a complementary 269-piece Fell beast with wings.

6. LEGO Icons Retro Radio Set

Meet the LEGO Icons Retro Radio set! It is a 906-piece set, which celebrates the iconic musical era of the 50s and 60s. The LEGO set features bright color accents in white and brown. It stands tall at 13 inches, 9 inches wide, and 2.5 inches deep, making it an impressive LEGO build. It is amped with nostalgic faux wood-colored trims, a pretty pastel bluish-green exterior, speaker slits, a tuner window, and an extendable antenna.

They showcase authentic design details captured from real-life models.

LEGO builder Anatomical_Brick’s ‘Motorized Beating Heart’ is designed to be a near-perfect replica of an actual beating heart! It outputs 55 bpm and is made entirely from LEGO bricks and is powered by replaceable batteries. The model includes a LEGO Technic frame with two interlocking slider mechanisms and a scissor element. It is an ingenious design that supports dynamic adjustments to the height and width of the structure.

9. LEGO Milky Way Galaxy

Say hello to the LEGO Milky Way Galaxy. This galactic hot mess of plastic includes 3000 bricks, which are joined together to create a mesmerizing art piece. As stunning as the final build is, it is also equally complicated to make. The different pieces are color-coordinated, and they are merged together to build the different bands of the galaxy. The set also includes a ‘You Are Here’ tag which pinpoints the general location of our solar system, and us.

Meet The LEGO® Jurassic World Dinosaur Fossils: T. rex Skull (76964). It is designed to be one of the first Jurassic World sets created for museum-like display. The set includes 577 pieces and contains an intriguing T.Rex skull with an opening jaw, as well as a stand to showcase it. Custom-built inside out, ModRetro Chromatic is the ultimate tribute to the Gameboy

Gameboy was a cultural icon in the 1990s when I was growing up. Almost every video game enthusiast in my close circle had his handheld from Nintendo, which meant that before being discontinued from production in 2003, it was arguably the best-selling console ever made. Since, then there have been many iterations of the popular handheld console trying to revive the lost era of portable gaming, but none has been as identical as what Palmer Luckey’s ModRetro may have achieved with the Chromatic.

Combining nostalgic charm with modern tech, the ModRetro Chromatic inherits the Gameboy DNA to give enthusiasts the most realistic experience of the classic handheld console in the blood and body of the new-age device. It’s a result of seventeen years of endeavor to make the ultimate device to play Gameboy games as they were played on the original console.

There’s a distinct appeal to ZEN’s a la carte approach. It gives you the freedom of being able to design your own EDC like you would a desktop. A lot like picking a motherboard, CPU, GPU, and storage based on your choice, ZEN lets you add the tools of your choice to its open framework. The design offers 7 tools to choose from, and you can either add all of them to the ZEN’s holder, or stick to just the basics and keep the tools you find yourself using the most often.

The 7 tools that come with the ZEN cater to a variety of needs and requirements. You’ve got a bottle-opener, a rope cutter (which also works as a flathead screwdriver), a wood/metal file, an awl or pry-tool, a jagged toothed saw, a drop-point knife, and a screwdriver that lets you load hex-bits of your choice into its design. There’s probably never a time when you’re going to need all these tools at once, so you can choose exactly the tools you may end up requiring and carry just them instead of having a bulky heavy EDC on you all the time.

In fact, the creators of ZEN have even more tools in the works that you can buy as add-ons and attach them to your multitool. Available as separate accessories, you’ve got a ruler, comb, diamond file, scalpel blade, scissor, fish hook, bicycle spoke wrench, can opener, or box cutter, with many more tools in the works. Attaching them is as easy as hooking them into the ZEN, where they secure firmly until you need to remove them. Using the ZEN is just about as simple as a Swiss Knife. The tools fold open when you need them, and slide shut into their holder when they’re done. The tools sit inside the holder in a stacked fashion, and the topmost tool can be opened with a single hand, which means it’s best to have the drop-point knife or the rope-cutter at the top, letting you singlehandedly flip it open like you would any EDC.

The ZEN’s holder or outer shell comes in one standard size that fits multiple tools inside it, but offers 3 different materials to choose from. The most obvious (and budget-friendly) is stainless steel, but right after that is G10 fiber, which most EDC enthusiasts will love for its grippy tactile feel. You can also opt for a titanium holder, which makes your ZEN virtually indestructible, although the tools on the inside are all 440C high-carbon stainless steel.
