Sleep has become a luxury for a lot of people because of the fast-paced work lifestyle and also the distraction of our gadgets. Singapore is apparently the third most sleep-deprived country in the world and people taking naps in public is a common sight in this Southeast Asian country. IKEA Singapore has come up with a new product for those who may need to take a quick nap while commuting or at other public spaces.
Designer: Secret Little Agency for IKEA Singapore
The RESTEN bag looks like the iconic blue FRAKTA bag of IKEA, but this one also doubles as a huggable bag or pillow for those who need a quick nap. The padded design of the bag resembles that of a pillow but keeping the blue color and design of the IKEA reusable bag. It was made with ultra comfortable fabrics and stuffing with enough space to put your daily essentials.
The main appeal of this bag though is that when you’re commuting on a bus or train or studying at the library, it will double as a pillow when you need a quick nap. It also has a strap that has the words “Leave the rest to IKEA” so you can also remember to take a quick break every once in a while.
The RESTEN bag is a limited edition item that will be available at IKEA Singapore branches from September 6-8, 2024 as part of their RestFest event. It would be nice if they can also make this available in other sleep-deprived countries like mine.

The new breed of handheld PCs designed for gaming can’t deny their inspiration. The success of the Nintendo Switch definitely made the dream of AAA gaming on the go a reality. Of course, that only works if you’re all in on Nintendo’s ecosystem, though PC gamers have been relying on laptops for their portable experience. The likes of the Lenovo Legion Go, however, have taken us closer not just to truly portable PC gaming but to an experience almost similar to the Nintendo Switch with its removable controllers. Now the PC giant has come out not with a successor but with much-needed accessories that give the handheld gaming PC a more holistic image and a more complete mobile experience.
Handheld gaming PCs have definitely kicked the doors wide open for PC gaming on the go, but almost all of them lacked one important Nintendo Switch feature from day one: first-party accessories. Sure, you can connect a keyboard, mouse, and maybe even an external monitor, but in most cases you also have to hunt for hubs and docks that you can only hope will actually work as promised. In contrast, the Switch had the TV dock, holders and chargers for Joycons, and more, emphasizing a complete ecosystem that removed much of the concerns that PC gamers face even on laptops and desktops.
The new set of Legion Go accessories does that for Lenovo’s first-ever handheld, making it an even more flexible system for gaming and, ironically, work. At the top of the list is probably the official Legion Go USB-C Dock, providing a home for the handheld at home, making it easy to turn the Legion Go into a desktop or living room console when you’re not out and about. The Legion Go Charging Connector keeps the handheld’s removable TrueStrike controllers always ready when you need them. You can even use the controllers while attached, turning them into a distinct and standalone gamepad.
Although not directly related to the Legion Go, Lenovo also announced a mini Bluetooth keyboard that’s a perfect complement to the portable computer. The Legion Go has one of the largest screens among handheld PCs, so you can type out an email response or some other document with this keyboard. Plus, it also lets you easily play PC games that can only use a keyboard and mouse for input, especially since one of the TrueStrike controllers functions as a joystick-like mouse when detached.
Other members of the Legion Go accessory family include an official carrying bag, as well as joystick and button caps. Unfortunately, they may have come a little too late to make a world of difference. While some owners have probably made do with third-party products that offer the same functionality, these official Lenovo accessories bring the guarantee of actually working well with the Legion Go.

The dream of the modular smartphone proposed by the likes of Project Ara and the LG G5 might have failed to become lasting reality, but there is more than one way to actually implement a modular design. Unveiled just last month, the CMF Phone 1 by Nothing tackled the problem from a different angle, one that didn’t change the smartphone design formula too much while still kicking the doors wide open for modular accessories. It’s not surprising that there was a sudden burst of creativity trying to take advantage of this new platform, and thanks to 3D printing, we can behold some of the rather curious ideas creators have when pushing the possibilities of this modular system to the extreme.
To be clear, the CMF Phone 1 itself isn’t modular, but its removable back cover invites all kinds of modular accessories and attachments. As long as you can screw it on the back of the phone and retain its usability, everything is fair game. Those accessories can range from simple loops and stands to bottle openers and miniature Nerf guns. As long as you can 3D print it, anything’s possible.
The Modular Sliding System, for example, has a creative design that integrates three sliding modules that can be a pen, an SD card holder, and even a comb. The top and bottom sliding modules unfortunately have to be curved to take into account the position of the screws on the CMF Phone 1’s back. Switching out modules is quite simple, and there’s plenty of room for other tools that you might want to always have in your pocket all the time.
The Brick Case is a bit less ambitious but even more creative, and yes, it practically turns the CMF Phone 1 into one large LEGO-like brick. At first glance, it might seem like a cosmetic design only, putting a LEGO scene on the back of your phone when that can only be appreciated or used if the phone is placed face down on a table. With some imagination and design work, however, it might be possible to 3D print functional modules as well, like one that puts a pad of sticky notes on the back of your phone.
Coming completely out of the left field, the Foam Dart Launcher turns the CMF Phone 1 into a toy. It’s pretty much a one-shot mini Nerf gun, used to surprise friends or colleagues. It obviously has no practical benefit, but it does demonstrate the wide range of possibilities offered by the simple yet ingenious modular design of the CMF Phone 1.
Imagine a mouse so lightweight it feels like featherweight – literally an extension of your hand for endless gaming on your PC. The Optimum Zeromouse V35 mouse could take the crown of being the lightest gaming mouse out there at just 16 grams. Optimum, who is a well-known PC maker and shooter, intends the user to use this as a shell for the Razer Viper V2 Pro, but can be used individually as well.
The 3D-printed shell of the mouse has supergrips for ergonomic comfort and lesser hand strain when gaming for long periods. There are no side scroll buttons or DPI selectors to reduce overall weight. Ultra-light credentials of the accessory and the supergrips make it well suited for action shooting games because of the low-tension aiming experience.
The lightweight unibody frame is made using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) using nylon PA12 material which has a very high tensile strength. Thus, the compact peripheral doesn’t compromise on structural integrity since the crossbar support and the deeper grooves at contact points make it highly durable and stable. While the mouse won’t turn you instantly into a Top 500 Overwatch player or a Radiant Valorant, just like the best running shoes won’t turn you into the best runner on the planet!
According to Optimum Tech, who designed this featherweight mouse for gaming, when switching back to any other gaming mouse after using the Zeromouse V35, the difference is very clear. The fact that it weighs almost half as any other mouse, gives the player a tactical advantage in movement, even if it is by milliseconds in close matches that can be the difference between winning and losing.
The peripheral priced at $70 takes a detour from the set conventions with a very raw form. Somewhat comparable to a speed record car that has everything fluffed out and only the essentials for performance retained. A mouse doesn’t have to be heavy or ergonomically challenged which is exactly what V35 offers in a compact form. How the next proposed versions of this mouse will evolve will be interesting to see. For now this peripheral is what the gaming community will be zooming in on.
Open-ear headphones have garnered a lot of interest lately because of their better-sounding acoustics, lesser pressure on the ears and the ability to listen to the outside world. All these features are very handy when traveling or commuting when you need to be aware of the ambient noises around you. That way you never miss out on any transit announcements or vehicles passing by on the road.
More commonly known as open-back headphones, the options are plenty but finding the one that keeps your music in focus without any sound leaks is important. NTT sonority wants your search to end with its nwm ONE open-ear headphones that employ a deeply researched noise suppression tech dubbed Personalized Sound Zone (PSZ) for next-gen sound.
The headphones have 2-way drivers – a 35mm main driver for pristine audio in your ears and a smaller 12mm driver to cancel out unwanted ambient sounds to minimize sound leakage. Together they work to amplify the high and low frequency sounds to create a perfect balance between a high-quality audio listening cocoon and audible peripheral sounds that are important. In conjunction with the PSZ, there’s the Magic Focus Voice technology with advanced beamforming tech to accurately focus on anyone talking to you, and the Spectral Filtering to diffuse other noises that are not important.
All these technologies are developed in-house by the NTT Computer & Data Science Laboratories resulting in a next level three-sixty degree sound that’s comparable to surround sound speakers. It goes without saying that no matter how much technology is stuffed into headphones if they are not comfortable, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing, the whole purpose is defied. Thankfully nwm ONE open-ear headphones don’t disappoint with their sleek form that sits on any ears without being uncomfortable after long sessions of listening.
They weigh just 6.5 ounces and clamp onto your head and ears without any uncomfortable pressure. The promise of these open-ear headphones seems good on paper but how they’ll perform in real life and justify their price of $299 remains to be seen. However, we are confident the pair of cans will live up to their claims and become a daily driver for many audio lovers!
We might call them laptops, but these portable desktops are not really great for being used on your lap. Never mind the heat that will cook your thighs and other body parts, it leaves you in a painful posture that might leave your neck and wrists cursing you. That said, sometimes we can’t exactly choose the location where we need to open up a laptop to get something done quickly, and there may or may not be a table available to set it down. This briefcase-like concept tries to alleviate some of that discomfort by providing not just a home for the laptop but also a slightly more ergonomic height even when you use it on a table.
Designer: Shivaprasad Vijayan
Laptops are convenient and powerful when you need a computer on the go, but their very design wasn’t exactly made with ergonomics in mind. You crane your neck and hold your hands at an unnatural angle, and that’s when you have it on a desk without any other accessories. And while laptops are portable in a sense, the need for a large power brick, a mouse, and any other peripherals means you’ll need to carry more than just the laptop itself.
LAPCASE is a concept that tries to resolve all the issues attached to a laptop’s usability when on the go, at least to some extent. It’s a laptop bag, technically more like a briefcase, that has room not just for the laptop but for all accessories you might need to bring along with it. It doesn’t just have pockets but actual dividers that organize those peripherals while also keeping them from getting tangled and protecting them against bumps and shocks.
The most important part, of course, is the laptop compartment at the top which is covered by a two-fold magnetic flap. This cover is set to an angle so that the laptop’s back is raised slightly when placed on it. The idea is to rest the laptop on top of the bag when using it, which raises it higher when placed on your lap or raises the screen to a slightly ergonomic height when on a table.
The concept definitely has merit, but there are a few drawbacks to the execution. For one, you will require an external keyboard whenever you use it on a table, as the laptop’s own keyboard will be too high for comfortable typing. And then there’s the issue of the case itself being too bulky, especially at a time when people are trying to actually carry smaller laptop bags. Then again, you are practically carrying a mobile office, so it might be a trade-off worth paying for the convenience of bringing everything you need whenever you leave the office.
True Wireless Stereo or TWS earbuds continue to evolve every year, but their charging cases have mostly been nothing more than portable battery packs. In 2022, JBL showed that there’s so much potential in those pebble-shaped devices when it slapped a touch screen on them. That may look fancy and cool, but some might think it’s also just a gimmicky feature. It is, however, just the tip of the iceberg, because the second-gen screen-toting Smart Charging Case that comes with the new JBL Tour PRO 3 definitely offers more, proving that there’s plenty of room for improvement and creativity if you’re willing to also pay the literal price.
A touch screen on an earbuds charging case is admittedly more of a nice convenience than a killer feature. It allows you to control playback, screen calls, and view media information without having to pull out your phone. It’s definitely an eye-catching design that made JBL’s earbuds look like they’re from the future, but the capabilities of the next-gen charging case can be qualified as a necessity, especially for globetrotters and frequent flyers.
The JBL Tour PRO 3’s second-gen Smart Charging Case can function as a wireless audio transmitter, practically replacing the role of a Bluetooth dongle. Simply plug the case into a USB or analog socket and have the audio stream to the earbuds instantly and with lower latency than Bluetooth. This feature was made with in-flight entertainment systems in mind, giving travelers more flexibility and peace of mind, knowing they don’t have to rely on fickle and unstable Bluetooth dongles ever again.
The Tour PRO 3 charging case is also one of the first few to support the new Auracast technology. The case becomes the source of an audio broadcast, allowing other Auracast-compatible earbuds, earphones, and speakers to share and enjoy the same tunes. You can also join other Auracast broadcasts by tapping on the case. Of course, there’s also a measure of privacy with a password to keep random people from joining your party.
The JBL Tour PRO 3 earbuds themselves won’t be overshadowed by its charging case, boasting a new head tracking technology that makes audio sound like they’re coming from outside your head and stays fixed in place no matter how much you swing or turn your head. For all these advanced features, however, the buds will set you back around $334, which isn’t exactly a small amount. The JBL Tour PRO 3 will arrive in mid-September bearing Black and “Latte” colorways, though availability in the US has not been announced yet.
