While all Transformers fans are tripping over Optimum Prime, it’s time to give the leader of the Decepticons his due chance. Yes, this self-transforming Megatron will win you over to join the bad side of the Transformers universe, the toy is that good. Created by Robosen Robotics in collaboration with Hasbro, the high-tech interactive collectible will force the inner child out of even the most serious middle-aged men.
Everything about this autobot is impressive, right from its design to the cool moves it is capable of. The Megatron is released as a limited edition collectible to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Transformers. Be informed that this thing comes at a steep price tag of $800 during the initial pre-order phase, and after that period the price is expected to shoot higher at around $1,200.
With a simple voice command, the 21-inch Megatron transforms from a walking bipedal robot to a rolling tank. The way it changes personality in an instant is the most satisfying thing to watch. The voice commands further extend into triggering actions like firing plastic darts from the cannon or doing other cool tricks. It can also play out famous scenes from the franchise in the voice of actor Frank Welker with visual actions. Voice commands can be used to wake up the robot or even play Happy Birthday tunes. The servo motors and microchips let the user control it remotely from a smartphone with the companion app.
Get too close to the Autobot and it reacts to your touch, thanks to the touch sensors placed on the body. Don’t be surprised if it shouts out loud “You Fool” when touched on the front plate and picked up off the surface. In the tank mode, it can fire plastic cannons on voice commands and do a lot of other cool stuff you’ll love. The robot has a lot of servos and they are well concealed behind the clever spring-loaded flaps. Attention to detail is apparent here with small details like the automatically rotating logo when it converts from a tank to a standing robot.
When it comes to decorating our homes with furniture and accessories, there are two kinds of people: the minimalist and monochromatic kind or the maximalist and colorful aesthetic. There can also be some sort of cross-over between the two but mostly, that’s the two general kind of homeowners. I am more of the latter as I have a lot of stuff and I want to keep my surroundings colorful and vibrant. This new collaboration between H&M Home and Pantone will definitely appeal for those who are like me.
Designer: H&M Home and Pantone
This is actually the second time that these two brands have collaborated and this time around, the colors just keep on coming. The H&M Home Pantone Collection comes in two palettes: Zesty & Fresh and Sweet & Juicy. The collection includes different food serving and food storage items like serving bowls, placemats, footed trays, coasters, salt shakers, etc. Just like the previous collection, you also get different colors of scented candles that come in the pantone palette looking box.
Unlike the previous collection that had more “calm” colors, these two collections are brighter and more vibrant and has more color options for those who want to mix and match or stay with their color of choice. The Sweet & Juicy has spicy red and strong orange colourways, representing excitement and passion and love and anger, respectively. This is the more intense option if that’s your aesthetic. The Zesty & Fresh collection meanwhile has a more refreshing vibe, with the fresh lime bringing balance, joy, and serenity while the bright yellow is more of joy and happiness but also enhances communication and wisdom, as per the color experts.
The collection includes the following dining and kitchen accessories: small and large plates, serving bowls, coasters, placemats, and container jars. The scented candles available are Mandarin Gelato (orange), Pink Grapefruit (red), Lemon Verde (yellow), and Green Basil (green). The collection is now available in selected stores and at their online store. My wallet is thanking me that this is not available where I live.
Everyone has a beverage of choice that they need in the morning to wake them up – usually, it is coffee or tea. For me personally, it is coffee! I love coffee, I need it to start my day, or else I simply refuse to start my day! It’s the boost of energy, dose of motivation, and rush of serotonin that I need every morning. And, I’m pretty sure that’s the case for most of us. We all need our cup of tea or coffee. There is a different satisfaction and pleasure in sipping caffeine that you know is the result of your hard work, something precariously prepared with your personal touch to it. And if you’re someone who’s chasing that feeling, then a unique, innovative, and interactive coffee machine or tea brewer is all you need, and ninety-five percent of the battle is won (the other five percent is you setting aside your laziness and operating the machine)! From a smart teapot to the Tesla of coffee machines – this collection of super cool and easy-to-use tools will start you off on your coffee/tea brewing journey. Cheers!

The recent collaboration between Kartell, the distinguished Italian furniture brand, and Mattel, the creative force behind Barbie, has resulted in an extraordinary collection of chairs that blurs the boundaries between furniture and art. Unveiled at Milan Design Week 2024, this partnership represents a significant milestone in design history, as it merges Kartell’s Philippe Starck-designed chairs with the timeless charm of Barbie.
Barbie’s enduring influence as a cultural icon cannot be overstated. From her origins as a children’s toy in 1959 to her recent portrayal in a live-action film, Barbie has continually evolved, captivating audiences worldwide and transcending her toy origins to become a symbol of empowerment and aspiration. Last year’s release of the Barbie movie further underscored her cultural significance, reshaping perceptions and highlighting her relevance across different age groups.
In response to Barbie’s multifaceted influence, Kartell and Mattel Creations embarked on an innovative partnership. Reimagining five of Kartell’s iconic chairs through a Barbie-inspired lens, the collection breathes new life into Philippe Starck’s designs, infusing them with Barbie’s signature style and charm.
The chairs, including the ‘Venice’, ‘Louis Ghost’, ‘Masters’, ‘Ero|S|’, and ‘AI’, have been meticulously recreated in both human and doll sizes, symbolizing Barbie’s 65-year legacy of inspiring imagination and creativity. Each chair, bathed in Pantone 219 C – the iconic Barbie Pink hue – is crafted from recycled plastic, highlighting the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
The genesis of this collaboration lies in Barbie’s ability to reinvent herself and resonate with audiences across generations. By transforming Kartell’s chairs into vibrant pink masterpieces, the collection pays homage to Barbie’s legacy of creativity and imagination. Crafted from recycled plastic and incorporating innovative materials such as bamboo, each chair embodies Barbie’s Dreamhouse aesthetic while also prioritizing sustainability—a testament to both brands’ commitment to environmental responsibility.
The debut of this remarkable collection at Milan Design Week captivated attendees, transporting them into a world where toys seamlessly merge with art. Displayed against the backdrop of Condé Nast’s Vogue Closet exhibition, the chairs became more than just functional pieces—they became cultural artifacts, inviting viewers to reconsider the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
In the words of Kartell, this collaboration represents a fusion “where toys become art, and art becomes toys.” By marrying Starck’s timeless designs with Barbie’s enduring allure, the Kartell x Barbie collection not only celebrates nostalgia but also invites us to embrace the power of creativity and imagination—a testament to the transformative potential of collaboration in the world of design.
From the conceptualization to the actual production, the Differential Growth Vases hardly had any significant human intervention. The vase shape was determined by a differential growth algorithm, while a 3D printer manufactured the vase. Although designer Tim Zarki orchestrated the project and came up with the very idea in the first place, the machines pretty much took over the execution of both the concept and fabrication phases, displaying two things – AI-based creativity, and the ability to have humans step away from creative roles with a fair amount of success.
Designer: Tim Zarki
Differential growth might sound like a fancy term, but it’s a way of explaining how cells multiply. The process can be understood through a series of rules that are repeatedly applied to points in space (called nodes) connected into chains by lines (edges) to form paths. In short, the cells adopt a pattern (based on their DNA) and create within that particular pattern, resulting in growth that follows a template set by previous cells. You can see this in how plant branches grow, how cells expand, how rivers meander, etc. Zarki put the same sort of algorithm to the test with the vases, setting a base shape and having the algorithm expand it. The result is nothing like any pottery you’ll ever see…
While most vases are created using a potter’s wheel, resulting in a rotationally symmetrical design, these vases have undulating designs created by the algorithm. The best way to understand how the algorithm works is to look at the shape of the base of the vase, and the final shape at the top. The vase’s vertical growth shows the transition between these two shapes, helping you understand how the algorithm works. There’s never a set final pattern, as the algorithm creates something new each time. This means each vase ends up looking unique. Zarki experimented with three overall designs, although the possibilities are quite literally endless, much like how no two plants grow the exact same way, or no two fingerprints look the same.
The final forms were then fed into a slicer software, that helps prepare them for 3D printing. The slicer creates a path that the printer’s nozzle has to follow, and once ready, the printer gets to work, slowly, but steadily printing the vase. As is evident, this entire process is nothing like the current conventional pottery methods, but with this project, Zarki hopes to challenge convention. By eliminating standard processes, and to quite an extent the human too, these vases show how oddly appealing a world would be to live in if AI designed more… obviously with humans playing a final role in determining whether the design is aesthetic or not!
You know you’re doing something right when Samsung ends up launching a product to compete with yours, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that Apple plans on joining the category too. The smart ring market is seeing an undeniable rise for a bunch of reasons. Smart rings are classy, discreet, and don’t have too many components or requirements. You have ten fingers, so you can easily wear a smart ring along with your engagement ring or accessories (try wearing two watches and see people stare) and you can easily wear the ring while asleep too. Smartwatches walked so smart rings could run, and the latest runner to enter the marathon is the Kuura Ring – a sleek wearable that’s titanium on the outside, and sensors galore on the inside that tracks everything from your sleep to your stress levels and exercises. Like a fitness tracker but sleeker and frankly a little more convenient, the Kuura is yet another nail in the smartwatch coffin, affirming the fact that rings are, in fact, the future of the health wearable industry.
Move Smarter: your walks, runs, cycles and gym sessions and measure your heart rate, and recovery rates to plan your personal fitness goals.
The Kuura Ring looks like any minimalist metal ring, blending right in without necessarily looking tech-forward. A titanium outer shell comes in 3 colors – black, silver, and gold, while the inner surface of the ring is made from hypoallergenic epoxy, which hermetically seals all the electronics inside the ring giving it complete water resistance. The insides are lined with various sensors that can track body metrics from body temperature to heart rate and even blood oxygen, giving the Kuura Ring a wide variety of stats to help interpret different stages of your health. A 17.5mAh battery powers the entire wearable, giving it a solid week’s worth of usage so you don’t need to charge your ring every day like you would most fitness trackers.
Live Smarter: Get a clear picture of your health from over 20 biometric signals, including temperature to stress levels to help you live your best life each day.
The sensors within the Kuura capture your health in a holistic manner, working around the clock to give you stats across a variety of categories. A G-sensor captures movement, a heart-rate light reads your heart rate, HRV, and stress levels, a blood oxygen light does exactly what it says it does, and an infrared light detects when the ring’s worn, switching the wearable off when you take it off. Combined, these sensors are all the Kuura needs to analyze your well-being.
The ring does everything a fitness wearable does and maybe some more. It monitors your health, ensuring your heart rate isn’t too high or too low, captures your steps to see how much you’re moving in the day, uses a variety of stats to check your stress levels, tracks your workouts (ranging from a variety of workout styles), and at the end of the day, tracks your sleep cycle. The lack of a screen on the ring means all the data is sent to Kuura’s own smartphone app (it also means better battery performance) where you can access every single metric laid out in a well-designed UI. The app is your health dashboard, letting you see your progress as well as learn all your rooms for improvement, and even set fitness goals that you can aim for.
Sleep Smarter: Wake up to analysis about your deep sleep, light sleep & REM sleep to optimize your sleep schedules and rise feeling refreshed and ready for the day.
Different sections in the app provide their own detailed metrics. The sleep tracking page gives you a detailed analysis of your sleep across 4 stages – REM, restful sleep, light sleep, and wakefulness. The fitness tracker captures movement (distance and steps), duration of your workout, and even the kilocalories burned. The water-resistance allows you to even go swimming with your Kuura on. Finally, the overall health tracker looks at your heart rate, variability, body temperature, and stress levels to give you a score that helps you understand where you stand in your journey to a healthy life.
Available in 3 different colors, the Kuura Ring comes in 8 sizes that fit men and women of all ages and body types. Earlybird backers can grab the Kuura Ring for just $99, which also includes the ring’s contact-based charging cable, and the free Kuura smartphone app available on iOS and Android.

Inspired by the future of sports cars, the original Amida Digitrend was way ahead of its time when it was introduced in 1976. It was well accepted as a driver’s timepiece, but did not make a significant move in the watchmaking world then. Yet, as the legends would, after almost five decades, the watch is making a time-relevant revival in the limited “Take Off Edition.”
Conceived to mark the 50th anniversary of Amida Digitrend’s original model, the Take Off Edition is an amalgamation of heritage and nostalgia. Marking some clever, modern, consumer-centric watchmaking nuances, like the mechanical movement, all steel case, and sapphire crystal prism for display, the watch is a result of the dramatic commitment of a team of enthusiasts including watch designer Matthieu Allègre.
The reimagined, modernized version of the new Digitrend functions on the same principle as the OG. It may have the manually wound mechanical movement replaced with an automatic movement i.e. a Soprod’s Newton caliber offering 44 hours of power reserve, but it retains the unique time-telling mechanism that allows a diver to see the time without having to lift the hand from the steering wheel.
For this, the watch has the usual horizontal, dual hour and minute discs, which using the sapphire crystal prism for the display show them vertically; the prism even helps magnify the vertically presented digital numerals for better legibility. This atypical display of the Amida Digitrend is a result of its unusual case shape inspired by classic sports cars and modern architecture. To that accord, the car-body-like case of the Digitrend is made from a block of 316 L stainless steel. It is sleeker – measuring 39mm across – than the original yet maintains a retro-futuristic vibe to it.
The steel casing is overly opaque revealing nothing more than the dashboard-style time display and a winding crown on the side. On the left side of the display are the jumping hours and the trailing minutes are visible in the right corner, with Amida Digitrend typography taking up the center space. The caseback is visually interesting with a serial number for the Take Off Edition, a rocket art, and a see-through window showing the new movement in its entirety. The new Amida Digitrend watch, is set to be available for preorder starting May 28 (delivery to begin in October). It comes paired with either a charcoal Alcantara strap or an orange-colored calfskin strap with a stainless steel buckle.
At Milan Design Week, we got to witness a range of intriguing flat-pack furniture by researchers from the Swiss design school ÉCAL. The interesting collection needs to be immersed in water to reach its final finished form. Dubbed Under Pressure Solutions or UPS, the furniture is crafted from thin and compressed sheets of cellulose sponge, which enables the products to be packed into flat parcels. In fact, some of the objects are compact enough to be pushed through a letterbox, facilitating more efficient shipping.
Once you receive the products you need to soak them in the bath or shower, which allows them to blow up to around 10 times their original size in a few seconds. You then wrung out the sponge, and leave it to dry, hardening it, and forming a sturdy, durable, and self-supporting form of furniture that can support the weight of a person. The furniture collection is way better than conventional plastic foam when it comes to durability.
“Cellulose is a part of nature so, like a tree, it can be flexible and strong at the same time,” said ÉCAL researcher and industrial designer Christophe Guberan. The sponge is extracted from wood offcuts, and it is equipped with strength due to the same cellulose fibers that is utilized by a tree to reinforce its trunk and branches.
To create the sponge, the cellulose was derived from woodcuts. The cellulose was then chemically dissolved and regenerated to create sheets utilizing the same process that produces viscose and other cellulose textiles. Glauber’s salt is then added into those concoction, providing the sponge with its pores, and strengthening the cellulose’s ability to absorb water. This material is sold as standardized sheets that are then compressed and dehydrated to support smooth and easy transportation.
By adding small amounts of water, the various furniture pieces can become flexible once again, and they can be repaired by smoothing out any dents. And once the lifecycle of the furniture has been completed, it can be recycled or composted in the backyard.
They say Denim was invented in the 17th century, and popularized across parts of Europe and North America in the centuries after that. The material, which was derived while trying to produce a heavy-duty fabric, was perfect for workers in mines, factories, quarries, and gold diggers during the California Gold Rush in the late 19th century. It was durable, tough, comfortable, breathable, and frankly, looked good in both clean or slightly ripped-up styles. In 1873, Levi Strauss obtained a US patent for putting rivets in denim jeans, helping enhance their longevity, and practically turn the garment from a worker essential into a fashion staple. However, denim hasn’t seen much of a change since then. Sure, there have been minor improvements to the manufacturing like the integration of stretchable yarns that give denim a 4-way stretch, but jeans today are still fundamentally no different from the ones made post 1873… and S Jordan Berman and Peter McDougald Juhl want to change that. You see, jeans were originally designed for laborers, but are now worn by practically everyone, and that’s a bit of a problem. Berman and Juhl’s redesigned jeans, dubbed the Standard Issue Denim 001, are actually designed for everyday life – with a fit that’s perfect for work, leisure, and even sport, and a fabric that’s durable, stretchable, and breathable. Life’s changed a lot since 1873… it’s time our jeans changed too.
Designers: S Jordan Berman and Peter McDougald Juhl
The Standard Issue Denim 001 isn’t like your regular pair of jeans – it’s designed simultaneously to be worn with semi-formals, casuals, or even as functional-wear while camping and hiking. The jeans boast a perfect fit made possible without needing a belt, and have a unique 4-way stretch fabric that helps you do everything short of actual parkour (or maybe you could), without sacrificing durability.
Inspired by the needs of urban athletes and adventurers, these pants are crafted from our proprietary workwear-weight HSTech Denim fabric and are designed for maximum comfort and flexibility, without compromising style.
HSTech Denim has a 13% stretch factor on its diagonal, in line with the stretchiest, most flexible men’s denim available.
The secret lies in the fabric. Wares for All Reasons utilizes a proprietary HS Tech stretch denim that combines durability with exceptional flexibility using a combination of 98% cotton and 2% stretchable materials. This allows for a full range of motion without sacrificing the classic denim look. Whether you’re lunging at the gym or negotiating a deal at the office, these jeans are designed to move with you. But functionality isn’t the only focus – The Standard Issue Denim 001 comes in a classic, clean silhouette, free from excessive embellishments. This timeless design ensures the jeans will remain a staple in your wardrobe for every season for years to come.
Standard Issue Denim 001 jeans are crafted with globally sourced, top – grade materials.
The jeans boast some clever detailing too, like the split waist construction that allows the waistline to stretch and contract based on your body, giving you a snug fit without a belt. High-step knee darts give you a wide range of motion, allowing you to bend your knees without feeling the fabric stretching too much or pressing against your skin. Zippered pockets at the back give your wallet secure storage, and a slim 5-pocket design also gives you ample storage for your belongings and EDC without that baggy appearance that most cargo pants with multiple pockets have. A high-vis reflective ankle strap lets you be spotted in low light, and a webbing loop in the rear lets you secure your keys or a carabiner to your pants in a way that you really can’t with regular denims unless you attach them to a belt loop.
The Standard Issue Denim 001 comes in 8 sizes with one classic color option (and more on the way). Each pair of Standard Issue Denim 001s is vegan, manufactured ethically, and with a circular product life-cycle. The jeans are made to be durable and last for thousands of washes and tens of thousands of wears (this might just be the last pair of jeans you’ll want to buy), and if and when the jeans finally wear out, they can be returned to their manufacturers who will either repair them for you or offer a 10% discount on your next pair of jeans.
