Super Hexagon Creator Working On New Puzzle Game

Indie game machine Terry Cavanagh has homed in on a new concept, which with any luck he’ll busily be pursuing with the same amount of fanatical attention to detail as the masterful Super Hexagon. The trademark lo-fi visuals seem to have been preserved, hopefully the brutal difficulty curve and arresting chiptune scores will be as well.

OUYA E3 Show To Be Held In Public Parking Lot

OUYA continues to be smart about marketing its yet to be released device, this time by putting  it in front of a mass of people traditionally ignored at press and industry-centric E3 – the players themselves. The company will be setting up in a parking lot outside the LA Convention Center and making sure its booth is packed with games by providing exhibiting devs with everything from equipment to free food.

EA Ending Online Pass Initiative

EA has decided to stop putting its games’ online content behind a paywall by putting an end to its anti-used game policy known as Online Pass. The Online Passes ensured only first time game purchasers enjoyed feature like multiplayer or DLC for free, with players buying used games having to purchase features separately.

Assassin’s Creed Film Coming May 2015

Ubisoft gets weirdly specific about the release date of blockbuster franchise Assassin’s Creed blockbuster theater opening night. Despite a slew of high profile video game films recently stalled or even outright cancelled (Bioshock, Uncharted and World of Warcraft come to mind), Regency Films and Ubisoft Motion Pictures are keen to bring this one home.

Rift MMO Going Free To Play

The ranks of the few remaining subscription MMOs have thinned even further today as Rift will be going free to play come June 12th, or as Rift fans will know it, update 2.3. The change looks to have been carefully orchestrated both as a response to fan demand and no doubt the inherent suitability and profitability of this particular business model for the genre.

Phoenix Wright 5 Coming As eShop Only Download In Europe & US

Despite encapsulating the best qualities of DS games and arguably cementing the original’s reputation as a haven for simple, quirky, low friction games long before the App Store, the Phoenix Wright series was apparently never that popular at retail. That’s exactly the reason why the next outing in the series, Phoenix Wright 5 Dual Destinies will be sticking to Nintendo’s eShop for certain territories.

Double Fine Going After Stacking, Costume Quest Rights

Double Fine used to be known for two things: CEO Tim Schafer and his ridiculously great games made at LucasArts and amazing ball of amazingness Psychonauts. Nowadays, Double Fine is home to a lot more games after a change of direction following the troubled development of Brutal Legend saw the studio quickly release multiple smaller games instead of one huge one.

The company is looking “to focus on creating the next generation of mobile social games,” the result of which “has been clearly demonstrated by the success and growth of our games.”

Diablo 3 Auction House Up & Running, Cheaters Won’t Prosper

EVE Online Diablo 3 ain’t. While players of the Icelandic MMO giant’s opus are all but encouraged to try and wreck the game’s economy and exploiters keep their loot after loopholes are plugged, Blizzard is nowhere near as forgiving. The recent Auction House exploit that allowed players to make out like bandits has been closed and the 415 cheaters dealt with.
