Android 5.0 Lollipop Update for HTC One M8 and M7 Delayed

HTC One M8

HTC has rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the unlocked and developer edition of the HTC One M8, but it seems rest of us may have to wait a little longer to get the update.

HTC’s Mo Versi announced in a blog post that the company may not be able to deliver the update within their 90-day goal, which appears to be on February 1st, for the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 as they are trying to fix some issues with the update.

“We’ve been working hard in the labs with Google and our carrier partners ever since the code release and are making great progress so far, but if you’ve been following the progress of this rollout you will know that Google has had to address several issues with this release. We’ve been diligently working to fix some of them on our end and incorporating Google’s fixes as quickly as possible, but despite everyone’s best efforts some carrier versions of the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) will not meet our 90 day goal, which is February 1st. While we are committed to delivering within this time period, we are even more committed to ensuring these updates result in an even better experience with your device because that is what the updates are intended to do,” says HTC’s Mo Versi.

To be honest, getting an update without any issues and bug fixes is more important in my opinion, and if it takes a little long, it should offer users with a good user experience.

Samsung Expected to Make TouchWiz Less Bloated

Galaxy S5

Samsung is the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, and there’s no doubt the company produces decent flagship devices, but there’s one thing which many people dislike: TouchWiz UI. Samsung tends to add several features and bloatware on its devices, which affects the performance of the devices in a negative manner, but it seems things are about to change soon.

We’ve already heard that Samsung is trying to make Galaxy S6 software less bloated, and according to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung is reportedly cutting down on add-on features which can work as downloadable apps. This way, people who the apps will be able to download them from the App Store, making it less bloated overall.

“It has been reported that Samsung is working on optimizing its software for the Galaxy S6 to near-Nexus levels, and we now have exclusive info that the company is removing every add-on feature that can be downloaded as an application, and slimming down the software by a wide margin in the process,” SamMobile said.

There’s no word about the features the Korean OEM plans to remove, but it appears that apps like Story Album, S Translator, or even S Voice will be available as downloadable apps.

It remains to be seen what Samsung plans to do with the TouchWiz UI in its upcoming flagship device, but we’ll update you as soon as we hear more.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Design Details and Dimensions Leaked

Galaxy S6

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen all sorts of leaks related to Samsung’s upcoming flagship device, the Galaxy S6. Not too long ago, some cases for the alleged Samsung Galaxy S6 popped up on Amazon, and now we have some more information about the upcoming handset.

The folks at NoWhereElse managed to get their hands on the leaked schematics for the Samsung Galaxy S6 case, which reveals the dimensions of the upcoming flagship device.

There’s no way to tell if the photos we’re seeing are legitimate, but if they are, it appears the Galaxy S6 would be taller, wider and thinner than its predecessor. According to the leak, the alleged Galaxy S6 measures 143.52mm x 70.70mm x 7.19mm, but it’s not as thin as the newly-announced Samsung Galaxy A7 which was unveiled a sometime back. Compared to the current Samsung Galaxy S5, it’s thinner — the Galaxy S5 measures 142 x 72.5 x 8.1mm.

If you take a closer look at the case, and the leaked images, the cut out for the camera looks quite similar to the cases we’ve already seen in the past few days.

The bottom corner reveals three cut outs, one of is the charging port. As far as the other two ports are concerned, one is likely to be for the headphone jack while the third one should be for the speaker grill.

Obviously, this could be fake, we have to wait for the Mobile World Congress 2015 where the Korean company is expected to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S6. Until then, take this with a pinch of salt, we’ll update you as soon as we hear anything more.
