WhatsApp release Windows Phone update to allow calls

Whatsapp Windows Phone 1

WhatsApp have finally let Windows Phone users join the rest of the world in doing phone calls from the popular chat app, just like Android and iOS users have been able to do since early 2015.

Just as we had reported before in this link, Windows Phone users are finally able to enjoy and take advantage of WhatsApp call service via VoIP protocol. This rumor, which had been going for over a month now and had Windows Phone users awaiting for clarification finally became official, and starting with the WhatsApp version 2.12.60 for Microsoft’s platform, they will be able to enjoy this call system.

The process to make a phone call is just as easy as it was on every other system out there. Users only need to access the chat of the person they want to communicate with, and a menu will show up on the lowest part of the screen – with a completely new icon to activate calls. Once users click it, they will be able to call as well as receive them on the screen – but at the same time has a tab in which users can check a log of calls done and received, as to keep track of them.

As expected, this WhatsApp update now covers the biggest part of the available market, no matter which one of the three big OS anyone might prefer or use – yet the new features don’t stop there, as users will also be able to send audio files and even deactivate the much talked about “read” confirmation.

As of now, these new features exist only on Windows Phone 8, which can be downloaded from the Windows Store in the following link.

WhatsApp Android: search all your conversations simultaneously

WhatsApp Android

A much requested feature is coming on one of the next Whatsapp updates. The new version of WhatsApp for Android will let users search in all conversations simultaneously.

A while and a few updates ago Whatsapp enabled an option to allow users to track data or specific keywords in any given conversation, but now, according to the website Android Police, we’ll be able to check several conversations simultaneously. This new feature will, for example, allow you to search the name of a dish in a restaurant that a friend mentioned once in conversation, or the phone number of someone sent via WhatsApp that we never added to our contacts, all without having to enter any specific conversation.

Current versions of the app do not feature this tool, but it is expected it will eventually show up in the very next update. Another rumor, though, claims  that just like with calls, it might show up for some users before others, and then roll to everyone.

This is not the only bit of news from the Whatsapp world, as very recently Windows Phone users were also able to join the rest of the world with free calls, which was still pending. This will allow Windows users to do phone calls via WiFi or 3G, just like Android and iOS users have already been doing for a couple months now.

Voice calls are coming to WhatsApp

Whatsapp Voice Calls 1

WhatsApp keeps growing at a steady pace and adding new functionalities. In this context the latest update added the most requested feature yet: voice calls.

The WhatsApp team are rolling out their latest update, which has possibly the most requested feature in the app’s history built in: voice calls, and the ability to do video calls, as if it was Skype or Lime. Some users that are already on the latest version started uploading images and videos to social media where the new contact list can be seen, along with the new features. WhatsApp president Jan Koum had confirmed that voice calls were coming in 2015, but no one expected it so early and so unceremoniously: it simply showed up there, and if you don’t have this latest update yet, you will soon.

From now on, whenever users are in a chat they’ll see a telephone icon (which in turn only shows up if the other user is also running the latest version of the app), and once users tap it video calls will be started. The minimum required version for this is 2.11.508, so if you are not there yet, just wait until the update rolls for you.

In the meantime, other media outlets have been reporting that users running the latest update hail mostly from India, which is a closed market, albeit a huge one, where WhatsApp might be beta testing or stress testing before launching worldwide. Yet, if you are in a hurry, there are already a few hacks in place that will allow you to update. If you are in this last group, head over to Google, and then tell us how much you liked it in the comments section.
