Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art Florilège is a tribute to the delicacy of 18th Century botanical illustration in England

Karanvir Singh:

The oldest Swiss manufacture of fine and prestige watches, Vacheron Constantin which earlier created a one-of-a-kind timepiece, the Chagall “Tribute to 4 Composers” watch that exhibits the painted ceiling of the Palais Garnier, in the recent times launched its exclusive Métiers d’Art Florilège Collection. Described to be a vibrant tribute to the delicacy of botanical illustration in England in the late 18th Century, the Métiers d’Art Florilège trilogy for women takes inspiration from Robert John Thornton’s famous 1799 book ‘The Temple of Flora’, a major reference book that features artwork by noted botanical illustrators and painters of that time. The three plants in the book of 90 plates, including the White Lily, the China Limodoron, and the strelitzia actually invest the dials of watches that meet ancient decorative crafts including guillochage, enamelling and crimping. Limited to just 20 examples of each variation, the dial of each timepiece notably reveals a set of perspectives and exceptional depth, highlighted by a bezel set with diamonds.
