Japanese carrier Sharp launches new smartphone cum radiation detector

Asmita Prasad:

The majority of the world’s cellphone using population wouldn’t prefer living near a nuclear plant or a place that is prone to radiation exposure. But just in case you do happen to live in such a place, having a smartphone that can detect radiation would certainly be handy. The Sharp Pantone 5 (107SH) by the Japan-based cellphone carrier Softbank is one such option that combines the functionality of a regular smartphone with the additional luxury of doubling up as a radiation detector. The phone came into being as a response to the panic caused by the possibility of radiation leakage from the Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Fukushima last year after the horrendous earthquake and tsunami.

Tablift lets tablet-addicts bring their iPads to bed with them

Asmita Prasad:

Back in the good old days, and by good old days we mean the late ‘90s, using the computer was a chore in itself. People had to sit up staring at chunky desktops while waiting for the good old dial-up to connect with its signature screeching sound. The advent of laptop liberated us from the agony of having to sit up straight and helped us bring our cyber lives to bed with us. The arrival of iPads made us lazier still though most of us are still struggling to find the perfect lying down position that would keep the tablet PC propped up in front of us. Designer C. Scott Blevins perhaps endured the same struggle for many a good day before he decided to invent the Tablift, the iPad stand that makes using the tablet in bed easier and more conducive to unproductive activities.
