MOFT’s new MagSafe iPhone Stand packs a Sleek Pen and Notepad for Jotting Ideas and Doodles

For the people who think Artificial Intelligence is a bit of a gimmick, the MOFT Snap Flow helps you harness the power of Human Intelligence. Designed to attach to the back of your phone, the MOFT Snap Flow gives you the sleekest possible note-taking solution ever designed. While the company is best known for designing ‘invisible’ stands for phones and laptops, the Snap Flow takes the phone stand to another creative level. Sure, it props your iPhone up at an angle when you want hands-free viewing… but flip the Snap Flow open and you’re greeted with a tiny Post-It-sized notepad, a foldable pen, and a tiny folder for organizing your paperwork, to boost productivity and creativity anywhere. It’s analog beauty at its best, allowing you to quickly jot down ideas, take notes, make lists, capture verses, or make subway doodles – without an app, a screen, or the cloud. Just good old-fashioned ink and paper.

Your smartphone can be an extremely noisy place, mentally and visually. You could get a call while you’re typing an email, an Instagram DM while working on a deck, or just get sidetracked by a flurry of notifications during a video call. Your phone is a multipurpose device, and when you’re trying to concentrate on a single task, that multipurpose nature goes from blessing to curse really fast. That’s where the notepad becomes a sanctuary. You can allow your mind to think without being distracted, since pen and paper don’t inundate you with messages and notifications. That’s what the MOFT Snap Flow hopes to provide – a personal space that lets you ditch digital distractions, and apps snooping on you or storing/stealing your personal information. The Snap Flow’s notepad gives you that slice of analog, but while being conveniently snapped against the back of your smart device. It’s slim, lightweight, and hey, it also works as a phone stand.

The design is sheer genius. The Snap Flow is like a mini notebook that sits on the back of your phone. Open it the way you would a book, and you’re greeted with blank papers (or as MOFT calls it, a ‘canvas’) on your left, an organizing folder system on your right, and a flat-packed pen. Lift the pen off its magnetic base and fold its three-panel design to go from flat to a grippy prism-shaped writing tool. You can now use the pen on the paper to write notes, capture ideas, make to-do lists, or just doodle away. Believe me, there’s something truly primal about ideating on paper with a pen that a digital notepad cannot compete with. It feels intuitive and allows you to feel more productive.

Once you’ve sketched on a canvas, tear it off and either mount it on the magnetic clipboard on the right side of the Snap Flow, or tuck it away in a hidden folder behind the clipboard for later. Effectively, you’re left with a miniature organizer that’s smaller than the size of your phone… and that isn’t including the fact that there’s a stand built into the design too.

Nobody does invisible stands better than MOFT, and the Snap Flow embraces that culture too. A flap on the bottom lets you open the Snap Flow’s stand, which lets you vertically rest your phone on any flat surface – or simply rotate the Snap Flow to have your phone rest horizontally. MOFT’s most user-loved feature gives your iPhone its very own kickstand that sits fairly flat against the phone’s back. Prop it up on a table without your phone and it becomes a miniature focus. Clever, eh?

The MOFT Snap Flow measures 7.56mm thick, and weighs a mere 62 grams. Aside from the stack of papers and that Invisible Pen, the Snap Flow has yet another slot for storing up to 2 payment cards, doubling as a wallet for good measure. Each Snap Flow is made from MOFT’s proprietary scratch-resistant MOVAS™ eco-friendly vegan leather. The Snap Flow comes in 4 color options ranging from subtle to eye-catching, and starts at just $39. The package includes the stand and pen, along with two sets of paper – one regular and one sticky. For non-iPhone users, there’s even a magnetic ring sticker included that turns any non-supported smartphone or case into a MagSafe one so you can securely attach your Snap Flow and take notes mindfully without any of that visual or mental clutter!

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Deluxe: Artistry and Craftsmanship in Every Step

The Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Deluxe combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design to create a unique and stylish sneaker. The first thing you notice about these shoes is the embroidered stripes that resemble brush strokes, giving them an artistic flair. This detail adds a tactile depth and visual interest that sets them apart. The deep navy color, called Peacoat, paired with Pure Silver accents, offers a sophisticated yet versatile look. Made from natural leather, these shoes provide durability and comfort. Adding to their charm, the Katakana script on the side spells out “オニツカタイガー” (Onitsuka Tiger), highlighting the brand’s Japanese heritage and giving the shoes a unique cultural touch.

Designer: Onitsuka

MEXICO SLIP-ON DELUXE: カラーPEACOAT/PURE SILVER

The embroidery on the stripes goes beyond decoration, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship involved. The brush stroke effect captures the look of traditional Japanese calligraphy, with intricate details that mimic the flow and texture of ink. This artistic element transforms the sneakers into wearable art. The combination of smooth and frayed edges in the embroidery adds an authentic feel as if each stripe was painted by hand.

The color scheme of these shoes is striking yet subtle, making them suitable for various styles and occasions. The Peacoat navy provides a rich, deep base, while the Pure Silver accents add a touch of elegance. This versatile color combination ensures that the Mexico 66 Deluxe can be paired with both casual and more polished outfits, making them a great addition to any wardrobe.

The upper part of the Mexico 66 Deluxe is crafted from high-quality natural leather, offering a premium feel and exceptional durability. The rubber outsole ensures good traction and comfort, making these shoes practical for everyday wear. The attention to detail in the materials and construction reflects the high standards of Japanese manufacturing, a hallmark of the “NIPPON MADE” series.

Wearing these shoes feels like a unique experience every time. The soft leather molds to your feet, enhancing comfort with each wear. They are perfect for all-day wear, whether you’re running errands or attending a casual event. The shoes’ premium materials and craftsmanship ensure they remain comfortable and stylish, even after long periods of use.

One of my favorite features is how these shoes look and feel great. The embroidered stripes and elegant color scheme make them pop or blend in depending on the setting. They’ve become my go-to choice for casual outings and more refined gatherings.

I’ve put these shoes through their paces, and they have held up remarkably well. Whether walking through city streets or taking on light outdoor activities, the Mexico 66 Deluxe has proven durable and reliable. The rubber outsole provides excellent grip, making it versatile enough to handle different environments.

The Katakana script on the side is a subtle yet impactful detail that adds to the shoes’ unique appeal. It emphasizes the brand’s Japanese roots, giving the shoes an authentic and distinctive character you won’t find in other sneakers.

Another feature of these shoes is that they use two shades of leather. The combination of smooth leather and suede adds a rich texture and depth to the design. The smooth leather provides a sleek, polished look, while the suede adds a touch of sophistication and warmth. This mix of materials enhances the visual appeal and contributes to the overall comfort and fit of the shoes.

A striking aspect of the Mexico 66 Deluxe is its laceless design, which I’m a big fan of. This feature adds to the sleek look and makes the shoes easy to slip on and off. However, it’s important to note that these shoes are designed and made for the Japanese market, which means they might run small. If you’re considering buying a pair, it’s advisable to go a size up, especially if you plan on wearing them with socks.

Onitsuka Tiger MEXICO 66 SD: ColorsBIRCH/GREEN

Overall, the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Deluxe offers a perfect blend of art, culture, and craftsmanship. The unique design elements, high-quality materials, and cultural touches make these sneakers a standout choice for anyone looking to add a bit of artistic flair to their footwear collection. Whether you’re a fan of Japanese culture or simply appreciate well-crafted shoes, the Mexico 66 Deluxe is an excellent choice.

EDITOR'S QUOTE:

Whether for its striking aesthetics, impressive battery life, or rapid charging capabilities, the OnePlus Nord 4 offers great value for users seeking a reliable and feature-rich smartphone experience.

Positioning itself as OnePlus’s midrange smartphone, each iteration of the Nord series has delivered great value, balancing price and performance. However, design has often taken a back seat in OnePlus’s Nord lineup, where aesthetics have been serviceable but not standout. With the latest Nord series, this perception is set to change. The company took on a great design challenge in the era of 5G – OnePlus is bringing back metal and went with a metal unibody design with Nord 4.

In terms of specifications, the OnePlus Nord 4 features a 6.74-inch Super Fluid AMOLED display with Ultra HDR support, a dual camera system, a 5,500 mAh battery with 100W wired charging capability, and is powered by Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset. Is the Nord 4 merely a visually appealing device, or does it offer substance beneath its sleek exterior? We put the phone to the test to uncover the answer.

Designer: OnePlus

Aesthetics

Being the only metal unibody 5G smartphone, according to OnePlus, Nord 4 has a captivating aesthetics. Metal back panels have been more common in the past, but they have become increasingly rare due to the adoption of 5G technology, which requires materials that do not interfere with reception. This shift has led to the predominance of materials like glass, plastic, ceramic, and vegan leather for back panels. OnePlus, with its “Never Settle” spirit, has boldly challenged this norm and created a metal unibody 5G phone by introducing a unique antenna arrangement and U-shaped antenna positioned at the bottom of the device.

The phone is offered in three color options: Obsidian Midnight, Mercurial Silver, and Oasis Green. Each variant showcases a distinctive two-tone design on the back panel, with a glossy plastic covering the upper quarter and a metal lower three-quarters. The plastic section accommodates two horizontally arranged circular cameras and two vertically aligned LED flashlights.

We received the device in Mercurial Silver, and it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing smartphones I’ve ever held so far. The silver variant features beautiful diagonal patterns that create an illusion of depth on the metal section of the back panel, accentuated by a shiny OnePlus logo at the center. According to OnePlus, each Mercurial Silver rear casing goes through a meticulous process with over 28,000 nano-laser cuts, which takes about 12 minutes to finish. The resulting silky texture of the back panel not only delights the eyes but also offers a pleasing tactile experience. While the metal unibody made from aluminum remains largely free of fingerprints, the glossy plastic part is more prone to smudges.

The Obsidian Midnight variant features a brushed gunmetal finish, while the Oasis Green variant pays homage to the OnePlus community’s favorite OnePlus Nord LE design. Whether you opt for Mercurial Silver, Obsidian Midnight, or Oasis Green, you are set to be impressed with Nord 4’s aesthetics.

Ergonomics

Thanks to the metal unibody design, the Nord 4 showcases excellent build quality and feels premium to hold. By seamlessly integrating the sides with the back, the design eliminates any awkward transitions combined with the curved back edge design, ensuring that the phone sits comfortably in the palm.

Being the thinnest Nord ever, the device measures 162.6mm x 75.0mm x 8.9mm. At 199.5g, it’s not the lightest phone, yet its balanced weight distribution ensures it feels comfortable to hold without being overly heavy. The slim profile and well-distributed weight, along with the textured back panel, offer a reassuring feel in hand.

However, the same cannot be said when it comes to unlocking the phone with the fingerprint. The placement of the under-display fingerprint reader is close to the bottom edge of the screen, meaning you need to extend your thumb and probably reposition your grip. Fortunately, the device also supports face recognition for unlocking the phone.

As for the placement of buttons and whatnot, the right side of the phone houses the power button along with the volume rockers on top of it. On the left side, you will find OnePlus’s familiar Alert Slider. The top of the phone houses the earpiece that doubles as a speaker and IR-blaster while the bottom houses the dual SIM slot, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker.

Performance

Out of the box, the OnePlus Nord 4 runs on OxygenOS 14.1 based on Android 14. Powered by Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 paired with 8, 12, or 16GB of LPDDRX 5 RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, the phone can handle tasks smoothly even graphic intense mobile games as you’d expect from OnePlus phones.

Nord 4 packs a massive 5,500 mAh battery, and its performance is admirable. It can easily last a day even under heavy use. The charging speed is fast with 100W SuperVOOC charging support. According to OnePlus, with 100 W SuperVOOC the empty 5,500 mAh battery can be charged to full in 28 minutes. It’s worth noting that the SuperVOOC charger brick is not included with the phone, so to take advantage of this rapid charging capability, you’ll need to purchase a 100W SuperVOOC charger separately.

Nord 4 sports two cameras on its back and a front-facing camera on the top center of the screen. The main 50MP uses a 1/1.95-inch Sony LYT-600 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS. The ultrawide is a modest 8MP camera using Sony IMX355 with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and an f/2.2 aperture. And, the front-facing camera is a 16MP camera using Sony IMX 471 with a 1/3.0-inch sensor, f/2.4 aperture, and autofocus capability.

The daylight shots captured with the main camera are pretty good, producing sharp and detailed images. The photos with 2x zoom are also good, sadly the photos beyond 2x zoom, the image quality diminishes, making them barely usable. In low-light conditions, the Night mode automatically kicks in which can be inconvenient, but it takes pretty nice images. The photos taken with the ultrawide camera are satisfactory, though they tend to lean towards warmer tones.

The main can take 4k 60fps videos while the ultrawide camera and front-facing camera are limited to 1080p at 30fps. The 4k videos taken with the main under poorly lit conditions came out surprisingly well.

The 6.74-inch AMOLED display with 450 PPI is bright and vibrant. With AquaTouch technology implemented, drops of water on the display won’t be an issue when using the phone.

Sustainability/Repairability

Known for its durability, the phone made out of metal should withstand long periods of usage and tough handling. Additionally, the phone is IP65 rated, so it is fully protected against dust and can survive water splashes. On the software front, OnePlus offers its longest-ever support with four years of Android updates and six years of security updates for the Nord 4. Complementing its durable build and IP rating, the Nord 4 is certified TUV SUD Fluency 72 Month A, promising sustained performance even after six years of heavy use. With rugged hardware, assured sustained performance, and long-term software support, OnePlus ensures that users can enjoy this gorgeous device for years to come.

However, the metal unibody design may pose challenges for repairability, particularly when it comes to replacing the battery, as it typically requires opening the back panel, which is integrated due to the unibody construction.

Value

The OnePlus Nord 4 is priced competitively starting at 499 Euros (approximately $545), making it a compelling choice in the fiercely competitive midrange smartphone market. While it may not boast the best camera capabilities within its segment, the Nord 4 excels in achieving a fine balance between price and performance. Its striking aesthetics, impressive battery life, and rapid charging capabilities are standout features that add to its allure.

In a landscape where midrange options abound, the Nord 4 stands out for its blend of affordability and functionality. Despite its competitive price point, it doesn’t compromise on key aspects such as design appeal, enduring battery performance, and swift charging speeds. These attributes make the Nord 4 a noteworthy contender for anyone seeking a stylish and efficient smartphone without breaking the bank.

Verdict

The OnePlus Nord 4 exemplifies OnePlus’s commitment to delivering exceptional value in the midrange smartphone market. With each iteration of the Nord series, OnePlus has consistently balanced price and performance, and the Nord 4 is no exception. Unlike its predecessors, the Nord 4 marks a significant shift by reintroducing a metal unibody design, setting it apart in the 5G era with a blend of durability and aesthetic appeal.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, a vibrant 6.74-inch Super Fluid AMOLED display with Ultra HDR support, and a robust camera setup. While its main 50MP camera produces sharp daylight shots and capable low-light images with Night mode, there are limitations with zoom photography and ultrawide shots tend to lean towards warmer tones. Nevertheless, its performance is bolstered by a substantial 5,500 mAh battery and blazing-fast 100W SuperVOOC charging, ensuring long-lasting power and quick refueling.

Whether for its striking aesthetics, impressive battery life, or rapid charging capabilities, the OnePlus Nord 4 offers great value for users seeking a reliable and feature-rich smartphone experience.

A Sugarcane And Hemp Suspended Light To Illuminate Office Spaces Sustainably

In today’s world, finding sustainable solutions is more important than ever. Sometimes, the best innovations come from rethinking old ideas. Working together is key in this effort, combining knowledge and resources to create products that meet today’s challenges. This is exactly what Norwegian studio Snøhetta and lighting brand Ateljé Lyktan have done with their new office lamp, the Superdupertube, setting a new standard for sustainable lighting.

Designers: Snøhetta and Ateljé Lyktan

This partnership isn’t entirely new. It began with The 7th Room, a stunning cabin in the treetops of northern Sweden, where Snøhetta and Ateljé Lyktan first teamed up to create unique lighting solutions. The Superdupertube uses materials that reflect Snøhetta’s commitment to regenerative design. The project started years ago with a team of architects and designers working with Ateljé Lyktan to find locally sourced materials with a smaller environmental impact. Hemp was chosen for its strong fibers and low environmental impact, cutting CO2 emissions by over 50% compared to traditional aluminum.

Working with suppliers Bergman’s and Trifilon, Snøhetta and Ateljé Lyktan explored sustainable materials. After testing pine cones and coffee grounds, they discovered hemp fiber. Superdupertube is the first project to use hemp-based material in an extrusion process. Hemp provided the necessary strength, and when mixed with sugarcane starch, it met the functional needs while staying true to the commitment to sustainability. Hemp grows abundantly and doesn’t deplete the soil.

Designed as a versatile office lamp, Superdupertube comes in four lengths and features a diagonal louver to reduce glare.

Superdupertube is a modern take on Ateljé Lyktan’s Supertube, a 1970s office light made from extruded aluminum. The simple design of the original Supertube caught Snøhetta’s attention, sparking a mission to update it for today’s ecological needs. After experimenting with various materials, they chose a composite of Dutch hemp and sugarcane-derived PLA bioplastic. This new material, free from fossil fuels, is sustainable and strong, making it a perfect alternative to aluminum.

The suspended light is a blend of craftsmanship and environmental consciousness. Its main body is created through extrusion, with injection-molded louvers and side covers giving it an organic look. Even the electric cables are wrapped in linen fabric, creating a natural feel. The lamp can be composted or recycled into pellets for future lamps, minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.

The natural color of hemp means each lamp is unique, with variations in color and light temperature. The LED strips emit a warm tone through the material, available in two color temperatures: 4000K (adjusted to 3800K ambient light) and 3000K (adjusted to 2800K ambient light). Using PLA material from sugarcane and reinforced with hemp fibers, the lamp’s environmental footprint is significantly reduced.

Superdupertube uses various production techniques, including injection-molded louvers and side covers. Dimmable LED strips, encased within twisted louvers, offer visual appeal and practical lighting, making it ideal for modern offices. Available in four lengths, each lamp features an organic beige hue with natural patterns from the hemp composite, adding individuality to every piece.

Recognizing that most of a lamp’s environmental impact occurs during use, Snøhetta and Ateljé Lyktan focused on efficiency, incorporating smart lighting systems to reduce energy consumption and extend the lamp’s lifespan. The design allows for easy assembly and disassembly, with components sliding into place without glue and minimal screws, making it easy to replace parts and update lighting technology.

From SpaceX to Your Closet: The Story of Vollebak’s Stainless Steel Blazer

When you hear the words ‘stainless steel’, chances are you’re never going to think of fashion. Your mind will probably conjure up hundreds of products before it thinks of a ‘stainless steel’ blazer, but here’s where the folks at Vollebak love pushing the limits of imagination and invention. To them, cotton, linen, polyester – these materials are a little too basic for fashion. Vollebak’s created garments out of carbon fiber, kevlar, ceramics, ballistic nylon, even copper (known for its anti-bacterial properties at the height of the pandemic). So, while most of us usually think of utensils when we hear the phrase ‘stainless steel’, Vollebak’s designers are already 10 steps ahead, figuring out how to make clothes out of it. To that end, meet the world’s first (and probably only) Steel Blazer. Made from 24% stainless steel, this isn’t your grandfather’s tailored jacket; it’s a fusion of fashion and function, incorporating aerospace-grade stainless steel into a surprisingly lightweight and versatile design.

Designer: Vollebak

The key to the Steel Blazer’s innovation lies in its unique material composition. Unlike traditional blazers crafted from wool or cotton, this garment utilizes a blend of 76% polyamide and 24% stainless steel. This might seem counterintuitive – why would someone make a metal jacket, wouldn’t it be uncomfortable and heavy? However, Vollebak’s clever engineering ensures the opposite. The stainless steel fibers are woven into the polyamide in a way that maintains a comfortable weight and a surprisingly soft feel. The resulting fabric looks undeniably unique. It has a grunge aesthetic, caused by how the fabric creases and folds. These creases eventually end up becoming your blazer’s identity, giving the blazer an incredibly cool distressed look. “You’ll also feel a subtle grain under your fingers when you touch it – and these are the steel fibers you’ll be feeling”, say the folks at Vollebak.

However, the inclusion of stainless steel goes far beyond aesthetics. This space-faring material boasts exceptional properties that translate into real-world benefits for the wearer. Stainless steel is renowned for its remarkable strength. Early lab tests by Vollebak indicate that the Steel Blazer surpasses their previous copper-infused garments in tensile strength by a significant margin. This translates to a jacket that’s highly resistant to tears and abrasions, perfect for those who lead active lives or simply appreciate built-to-last clothing.

The benefits extend beyond strength. Stainless steel is naturally resistant to corrosion, which means the Steel Blazer is unlikely to succumb to rust, a common concern with some metal-infused clothing. Additionally, the material offers surprising weatherproofing capabilities. The outer layer of the jacket boasts a water-repellent finish, making it ideal for light rain or unexpected downpours. This versatility ensures the Steel Blazer can seamlessly transition between various weather conditions.

With steel fabric on the exterior, the blazer also features a soft and breathable inner lining that wicks away moisture and keeps the wearer comfortable throughout the day. The minimalist design prioritizes clean lines and a sleek aesthetic. The convertible collar allows for customization – wear it folded down for a relaxed look or fasten it up for a more formal presentation. Hidden metal snaps ensure a secure closure, while four strategically placed pockets provide ample storage space for everyday essentials.

The story behind the Steel Blazer’s development adds another layer of intrigue. Vollebak spent four years meticulously researching and refining the process of integrating stainless steel into wearable garments. Their inspiration came from an unlikely source – the SpaceX Starship, a behemoth of a rocket designed to propel humans towards deep space exploration. The outer shell of the Starship is constructed from stainless steel due to its ability to withstand the extreme temperatures of outer space. Vollebak recognized the potential of this material and embarked on a journey to translate its properties into a revolutionary piece of clothing.

Modular Coffee Machine lets you vertically add an Ice Maker and Cup Washer to your Brewer

It’s sort of reminiscent of how some homes stack washing machines and dryers one above another… but imagine that scaled down ever so slightly and dedicated to your coffee. Meet UOCO, a modular all-in-one coffee machine that does just more than brew you a stellar cup. Designed to even resemble the washing machine with its clean, boxy aesthetic, the UOCO is a stackable appliance that lets you add extra modules to your coffee maker. Sure, its central feature is the coffee machine itself, but the UOCO also features an ice-maker, and a cup-washer that attach to the coffee machine, giving you an all-in-one vertical station for making ice lattes, and then washing your glass/cup after!

Designer: Yui Jo

Designed by Yui Jo, a student at the Hongik University in Seoul, UOCO is much more than your tabletop coffee maker. In fact, it isn’t a tabletop appliance at all. Large enough to be a floor-standing gizmo, the UOCO is significantly larger than your Keurig or Nespresso maker… but it’s also thrice as efficient.

The UOCO features three distinct modules that stack one on top of the other, connecting through a central port that supplies power to all three gadgets. Right at the top is an ice-maker, which delivers perfect ice cubes to go into your iced coffee. At the center is a pod-based coffee extractor that works just like your Keurig and Nespresso machines. Place your cup inside, add a pod to the tray, and press a button to watch fresh coffee percolate and pour right into your drinking vessel… with or without ice. Once you’re done enjoying your beverage, the cup/mug goes into the third, lowermost vessel – the cup washer. Working like a scaled-down dishwasher, it rinses your cup with hot water, cleaning it inside out and drying it for your next round of caffeine.

Scaled-down design prototype

It seems odd that Yui Jo didn’t opt for more coffee-adjacent modules like a roaster or grinder… but that’s the beauty of UOCO’s open framework. You can add modules as you go, and the UOCO can easily feature a non-pod-based coffee machine option with roasting and grinding capabilities too. Ultimately, the aesthetic is really what matters here. It’s clean, industrial-looking, and adds quite a touch of modernity to your home. You can even opt for colored modules, creating a nice color-blocking totem that goes with your decor.
