Gadget Review: Petcube Play

If you’re looking for a way to keep tabs on your pets at home, along with interacting with them and making sure everything is alright in your house while you’re away, Petcube Play is an excellent solution.

Petcube Play is the next generation of the original Petcube. It has an 1080p camera (compared to 720p with the first generation), night-vision, 2-way sound and something that remains quite unique in this market, a laser pointer. The device itself, as the name suggests, is a sleek cube that is very light and (if you care about that kinda stuff when it comes to your home gadgets) looks pretty cool. I don’t really mind that aspect when it comes to my stuff, but my wife was impressed with the look, which includes a matte silver finish and a black plastic front panel, where all the magic happens.

The camera gives almost 140-degrees of scope to any room you place it in your home (apartment in my case). It has an infrared emitter to light up dark rooms, at day (I usually leave the house pretty dark, my dog likes it like that) or at night. This is where the laser pointer comes into play as well, but more on that a bit further below.

Everything happens through the Petcube app – easy to access after setting up your free account on your phone. From here, you can access the camera and see what’s going on inside your home, hear and talk to your pet and mess around with them with the laser, simply by pressing the screen. There’s a 2-3 second lag with the laser from when you push the screen to the laser point moving. You can capture video or take screenshots of your pets with a crisp-looking picture and surprisingly detailers night-vision mode.

On the app, you can also share your video feed with friends, family and the other users of Petcube. You can also set up public access to your camera so someone else can watch over your pet or home, but only one person at a time.

Another service is Petcube Care, a cloud service to store your video feed and also provides a notifications feature, sending a push notification whenever it senses movement or sound in the room it’s watching over.

What I liked about this product the most was that my dog reacted to it, as simple as that. He usually isn’t the most responsive to technology – sounds coming out of speakers, and especially not to anything on a screen. But with Petcube, I was able to engage with him while I was away, whether by speaking to him or with the laser pointer.

The best way to describe Petcube without getting too caught up in technicalities: It’s an electronic babysitter for your pets that also acts as extra security around the house. It’s a terrific device to entertain your pet, and its features are level (and sometimes better than) with some of the more popular home security cameras on the market. Overall grade: 9 out of 10.

You can buy Petcube Play on Amazon or through the Petcube website for $199. I haven’t tried Petcube Bites, but it includes the ability to dispense treats to your pet. It costs $249 on Amazon and the Petcube website.

Best Cases for Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus

The fifth iterations of the Moto G series were unveiled recently. Like the previous models, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus are mid-range smartphones that won’t burn a hole in your pocket. These two models have had huge success for the past few years and Lenovo is thinking of merging the Lenovo brand under the Moto brand. This move might happen soon but that doesn’t mean that you have to wait for some protection

. Here are the Top 10 Cases for Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. These cases have had some bright reviews from people and they’ll definitely suit you.

Eflistone Moto G5 Plus Case

Let’s start off with a case for the Moto G5 Plus. The reason why this case is in the Top 10 Cases for the Moto G5 and G5 Plus is because of the sheer protection that you get. The Eflistone Moto G5 Plus Case completely covers the phone and leaves ample amount of room for the camera. The case uses a combination of silicon and high-quality plastic. The rear side has perforations which will restrict the phone from slipping.

Lizimandu Moto G5 Case

The Lizimandu Moto G5 Case is for someone who is looking for a premium looking case that comes at around $6. The Dark Blue color really stands out and the brushed metallic finish at the rear is just gorgeous. It resembles the Rugged Armor case from Spigen, but the color and finish are totally different. The top and bottom portions at the rear comes with carbon fiber finish. The inside of the case has triangular patterns which look really good too. Overall, I’d recommend this case for someone looking for decent protection without paying too much.

Poetic Affinity Moto G5 Plus Slim Fit

Poetic Affinity makes some cool looking cases for phones. Their clear case for the Galaxy S8 is just amazing and they offer the same case for the Moto G5 Plus too. There is no doubt why this case is present in the Top 10 Cases for Moto G5 and G5 Plus. You’ll understand what I’m talking about when you take a look at the picture below. Their unique X-Form Poetic Design DNA is used in the case which looks stunning. The combination of polycarbonate and soft TPU makes it light and doesn’t add too much weight to your phone.

Dretal Moto G5 Case

If you’re fan of abstract art on a phone case, then the Dretal Moto G5 Case will sweep you off your feet. Much like most of the other cases, this one uses a combination of polycarbonate and soft TPU. The polycarbonate has the abstract art printed on it and by the looks of it, the print seems of really high quality. The camera lens and the screen are protected due to the raised edges which is really cool.

OMOTON Moto G5 Plus Case

Large phones require kickstands and the OMOTON case for the Moto G5 Plus offers protection while giving an additional kickstand. It too comes with the soft TPU and hard polycarbonate combination. The hard polycarbonate has projections and the soft TPU is a bit coarse to give good grip. The kickstand is easy to access and can be simply pulled out and snapped back in.

FYY Moto G5 Case

This is a wallet case for the ladies. The FYY Moto G5 Case is made of leather and the pink variant would look super cool for ladies. The case also has a kickstand as well as provision for holding credit/debit cards, cash and other small stuff. The company is also offering some abstract patterns which really stands out. This is one of the Top 10 Cases for Moto G5 and G5 Plus because it offers decent protection along with a lot of useful features.

TUDIA Moto G5 Plus Case

TUDIA is more of a popular brand and their case has received some glowing reviews on Amazon. It is also the costliest case on this list coming at around $13. It offers extreme protection and comes in 4 different colors – matte black, metallic slate, rose gold and mint. I personally love the metallic slate variant as it goes extremely well with the phone. The cushioned edges absorb shock and give the phone some much-needed protection.

WWW Moto G5 Case

This case is very similar to the FYY case for the Moto G5. The same case is available for the Moto G5 Plus as well. Just like the FYY case, the WWW Moto G5 case also has slots for holding credit/debit cards, cash and other stuff. The leather case has crocodile patterns which look super cool as well as provides a good amount of traction when holding.

Spigen Rugged Armor Moto G5 Plus Case

I have never seen a brand that is so consistent when it comes to quality cases. But Spigen is among the best when and they’ve proved time and again that they are masters of the art of case making. The Rugged Armor case is one of their trademark cases with tough TPU and carbon fiber patterns. The cushioned edges have air pockets which absorb shock. It is also military grade certified for drops. This case is for the Moto G5 Plus, but it will soon be available for the Moto G5 as well.

SPARIN Moto G5 Plus case

The last case on the list is yet another combination of soft TPU and hard plastic. But on this one, the hard plastic is more like a complete covering over the soft TPU. The edges are also raised so as to provide the screen good amount of protection from drops. The hard plastic is grooved for grip and to restrict it from slipping. This is one of the Top 10 Cases for Moto G5 and G5 Plus and it is available for just $7.

5 Best 3D Printers for 2016

best-best-3d-printers

If there’s one machine that’s capable of making a person feel like a one-man factory in his own home, it’s a strong and powerful 3D printer.

But getting the right 3D printer for you is a difficult task. So many options, so many prices rangers, so many styles. Whether it’s a massive machine (relatively) that can work non stop and create big prints, or something more homey or for the office, we’ve considered all of that to put together the top 5 3D printers worth buying.

#1 Best 3D Printer: MakerBot Replicator+ 3D Printer

Why is it in the top 5? When it comes to quality, speed and reliability, it’s very difficult to beat the MakerBot Replicator+, the 6th generation of MakerBot 3D printers, and it’s easily the best of them.

At $2499, it should be this good, and it is. For those who know the MakerBot 5th generation, the Replicator+ comes with increased capabilities: It’s print speed is 30% faster, it can build models up to 25% bigger than the previous generation and it comes after 380,000 of testing to ensure consistent performance. The gantry and z-stage were redesigned for improved precision, and there’s a much better grip, not to mention no need for blue tape. To make it short: It’s expensive, but it’s worth it if you’re planning on creating big, complex models while working the MakerBot Replicator+ like there’s no tomorrow. Buy it on Amazon.

#2: LulzBot TAZ 6 3D Printer

Why is it in the top 5? It’s just as good as the MakerBot generation 6. Frankly, I had a hard time deciding which one is better. It should be 1A and 1b, because the LulzBot Taz 6 3D printer is just that good.

Just like the Replicator, it comes at a price of $2500, so it’s not for someone who just messes about: This is a real workhorse, that also has a mini version, costing half. The big TAZ 6 is one of those machines that simply makes 3D printing easy with its self cleaning and integrated power supply. It has a build volume of 280 mm x 280 mm x 250 mm, which enables large prints or making many small ones at once. As mentioned a couple of sentences prior to this one, if there was one 3D printer I’d choose to describe as a workhorse, it’s this one. Buy it on Amazon.

#3: FlashForge 3D Printer Creator Pro

Why is it in the top 5? You’re not going to find anything better in it’s price range ($899). The FlashForge 3D Printer Creator Pro is heavy, but it’s one of the more optimal machines you’ll come across in the field of 3D printers.

The original Creator had a wooden frame. Now there’s a sturdy metal frame, and aluminum plate that is aviation grade ensures a completely flat surface that won’t warp when things get hotter. It has a build envelope of 225 x 145 x 150 mm and build volume of about 5 liters. It has excellent software (Flashprint), so there’s no more need for aftermarket software purchase. It’s not the TAZ 6 or the Replicator+, but at under $1000, it’s the best 3D printer you can get. Buy it on Amazon.

#4: XYZprinting da Vinci mini 3D Printer

Why is it in the top 5? Just like the Borlee Mini 01 that comes after it, for those looking for smaller size of 3D printing and spending a little less, it’s hard to beat the quality of the da Vinci mini 3D printer.

At just under $270, it’s the least-expensive item on our list, but it doesn’t make it inferior. It simply fits specific needs that don’t call for a massive 3D printer. It’s connectivity to your local network is terrific, it has an excellent auto-intuitive auto calibration system and despite being “small” it’s anything but fragile, with a robust aluminum print bed, building in the size of 5.9×5.9×5.9 inch. It’s extremely precise, and can withstand pretty much anything you throw at it, making it the ideal mini 3D printer. Buy it on Amazon.

#5: Borlee Mini01 Compact 3D Printer

Why is it in the top 5? Just like the previous 3D printer, the Borlee Mini01 Desktop compact 3D printer offers a much easier price to cope with for those who don’t need the best and biggest, but something that is simply a good fit to their needs.

When it comes to entry level printers, the Mini01 is the ideal 3D printer. It’s easy to tune, calibrate and use. It gives you the freedom to use 3D printing software like Cura/Repeitor-hostfor for simple customization of 3D models. If you’re a noob or beginner at 3D printer, this is the way to start off right. Buy it on Amazon.

First Runner Up: FlashForge Dreamer 3D Printer

A terrific FlashForge creation, the Dreamer 3D printer probably has the best look out of the bunch. It works on the FlashPrint software, which is compatible both with Skeinforge and Slic3r slicing. It has a sleek look, but what’s important are the performances, which thanks to to the enclosed body produces insulated and protected prints. At its price range (a tad over $1000) it’s the best on the market right now. Buy it on Amazon.

Second Runner Up: Qidi Tech Dual Extruder 3D Printer

My favorite thing about the Qidi Tech 3D printer is the easy to use software, enabling simple customization of 3D models. It’s fully metal, with an aluminum plate so the surface remains flat and doesn’t warp during the heating process. At the $500-$1000 price range, it’s inferior only to the FlashForge Creator Pro, Plus, Qidi have excellent customer support, maybe the best in the business. Buy it on Amazon.

Famous Last Words

When carefully choosing the 3D printers to recommend you, we considered performance, price and value. There are two printers here that are a cut above the rest: The TAZ 6 and MakerBot Replicator+, but they also cost considerably more than the rest. There are printers with greater capabilities than the da Vinci mini or the Borlee Mini01, but people will less grandiose needs count. For those, the mini 3D printers presented here are the ideal choice, and obviously won’t set you back as the cream of the crop.

#1 Best Robot Vacuum Cleaner: iRobot Roomba 880 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

Why is it the best? The iRobot Roomba 880 is better than a human being with the best standard vacuum. Simple as that. It’s light, easy to clean, and pretty much gets everything.

In our opinion and according to almost every review on Amazon, the iRobot Roomba 880 vacuum cleaner is pretty much the perfect device to keep your place looking sparkling clean. It gets under the bed, it doesn’t leave batches of dust unchecked and different surfaces in the house don’t get in its way of getting the job done. Buy it on Amazon.

#2: Crenova Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Why is it in the top 5? Based on the wisdom of the masses, it’s on of the few robot vacuum cleaner with a 5-star review rating that isn’t something bought on rare occasions.

The combination of its price ($299 currently) and its performance makes the Crenova a-close-to-perfect cleaning addition to your home. It does a great job of avoiding obstacles, getting on (and off) rugs and has no problem accurately mapping the home and its rooms, making it was back to the docking station when it’s time to recharge. And for people with pets: It’s wonderful at taking care of that too, unlike some lesser vacuum robots that struggle with that kind of denisty. Buy it on Amazon.

#3: iRobot Roomba 650 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

Why is it in the top 5? It’s the #1 best selling robotic vacuum cleaner on Amazon, and that doesn’t happen just because of brand name or good looks.

The Roomba 650 works great on all surfaces: Carpet, tile, hardwood, laminate & more. Out of all the devices on this list, it’s probably the best equipped to handle dog fur and pet hair in general, despite not having ‘pet’ in the title. It’s a tad heavy compared to the Roomba 880 and it might occasionally get stuck on a difficult rug. Besides that, it’s a terrific purchase. Buy it now.

#4: bObi Pet Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

Why is in the top 5? One reason is practical: the bObi is terrific when it comes to handling pets. One reason is superficial: Its scarlet version just looks great.

Most robotic vacuum cleaners come in black or a very dark color. However, the bObi Pet Robotic Vacuum cleaner can come in scarlet or silver, with the scarlet version my personal favorite. But forget about the colors: It does an amazing job not just with dirt, dust and pet hair. It also gets rid of pet paw prints which are underrated when it comes to cleaning difficulty. For those who plan on calling them up to complain about something, the customer service, if there’s actually a problem, is terrific. Buy it now.

#5: ILIFE V3s Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

Why is in the top 5? For its price range, you’re not going to find anything that comes remotely close in terms of performances.

The ILIFE V3s vacuum is the lightest in the group, only 4.5 pounds. It’s the only one, with or without a discount, that comes at a price of under $200. It needs a few runs to map out the house and avoid getting stuck in, on and under places, but it learns from mistakes. In about a week it won’t need you to rescue it anymore. It’ll get under pretty much anything and do a fantastic job with pet hair. Simple to use, and a lot more affordable than other, inferior options. Buy it on Amazon.

First Runner-Up: ECOVACS Deebot N78 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

The Deebot N78, like the ILIFE V3, belongs to a group of less expensive robot vacuums. That doesn’t make it inferior. Its mopping attachment is probably the only thing that could use an upgrade, leaving things wet-clean and not clean-clean. It didn’t make it in because it struggles with stuff that’s a bit sticky and sticks hard to the floor. Other than that, it’s an excellent product. Buy it now.

Second Runner-Up: bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

As I’ve said before, I love robotic vacuums with color options, and the bObsweep vacuum has a rouge and a more expensive champagne exterior. It’s specifically designed to clean up pet hair and paw prints, and does a very good job at that. It also has a 1-liter dustbin, which just might be the largest in the robot vacuum industry, at least according to bObsweep, who also have terrific customer service. Two minor minuses (keeping it out of the top 5)” It has a tendency to get stuck on loose chords, and a slightly difficult-to-learn scheduling system. It’s probably the perfect vacuum for apartments that don’t have too many things to get in the way of cleaning. Buy it on Amazon.

To Summarize

Basically, you can’t go wrong here, no matter which robotic vacuum cleaner you buy. These are all fantastic products (some better than others) that will keep your house clean without too much maintenance. The iRobot Roomba 880 is the best and costs like one as well, but it covers all the angles and problems you might have. Some people love a massive bin so they don’t have to clean the vacuum too often. For that purpose, go with the bObsweep Pethair robotic vacuum. And if pets are really the issue, I’m split between two: The iRobot Roomba 650 or the bObi pet robotic vacuum cleaner. You’ll be very pleased with both. The end result, with all of these vacuums, will be having a much cleaner home, and one less thing to worry about.

#1 Best Gaming Desktop: CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3100A

Why it’s in the top 5: When it comes to a starter PC, the price and the specs can’t beat what you get with the CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3100A, which seems like it was made to make the transition into PC gaming as comfortable, and affordable, as possible.

In our opinion, the CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3100A is the best gaming desktop to buy when you take price and performance into account. It’s perfect for new gamers who are just getting into PC gaming, and is set up to be upgraded with plenty of space up top to add components. Pretty much any PC game will run extremely smooth on it, especially on low settings, and as we mentioned, you can easily upgrade it for the more demanding features. Buy it on Amazon.

#2: SkyTech Shadow AMD-1060-I Desktop Gaming Computer

Why it’s in the top 5: With almost instantaneous boot time and close to 0 bloatware when you start it up for the first time, the SkyTech Shadow AMD-1060-I is the ideal gaming desktop for gamers who want to cut the BS and get straight to business.

If it wasn’t for the price, the SkyTech Shadow AMD-1060-I would be on the top of our gaming desktop list. However, at its price range, it’s probably the best PC around. It’s extremely fast, it’s very clean in terms of software and hardware when you get it, and like the other computers on this list, it’s very simple and welcoming for upgrading. Plus, I love the blue. It’s not the most silent of machines, but it’s worth making the effort. Buy it on Amazon.

#3: CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A Gaming Desktop

Why it’s in the top 5: The combination of the price ($720), the performance thanks to a terrific video card and the surprising quality of build make the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR gaming desktop an incredible way to introduce gaming to new PC users.

For the price, the CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A gaming desktop PC is close to ideal, especially for new PC gamers. Basically, the RX 480 ensures you’ll be able to run pretty much every possible game on it. Buy it on Amazon.

#4: SkyTech Archangel Gaming Computer

Why it’s in the top 5: For this price ($599.99), it’s probably difficult to find a better PC for both gaming and rendering videos (or something in that ballpark) than the SkyTech Archangel gaming computer.

Our second SkyTech creation on the list, and just a tad less impressive than the Shadow. The SkyTech Archangel gaming computer stands out not just because of it’s slick white exterior, but it’s simply an excellent device, regardless of the price (and excellent one) you pay for it. #5: CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA880 Gaming Desktop

Why it’s in the top 5: Again, when it comes to new PC gamers, it’s hard to beat this price and get this quality in terms of graphics and speed. The CyberpowerPC GUA880 gaming desktop is the cheapest PC on this list, but it’s more of an advantage than a deterrent, as long as you know what you’re getting, which we’re here to help you do.

CyberpowerPC’s GUA880 gaming desktop PC rounds up our top 5. It’s cheaper than the others on the list for a reason: It’s initially built for lighter gaming and not the heavy-duty graphic demands of high-end stuff like Witcher 3 on its ultra settings. But for the more casual PC users who aren’t that huge on gaming, or simply want something a little more low-tech to upgrade from, it’s a fantastic purchase. Buy it on Amazon.

Top 7 just doesn’t sound as good as Top 5, but there were a couple of desktops we were considering putting into the list. If one of our ‘5 Best’ doesn’t sit right with you or you’d like to see a couple of more options, here they are:

First Runner-Up: CUK Trion VR Ready Gaming PC

The CUK Trion gaming PC is probably the ultimate gaming machine. You can run games at 1080p 60 fps or even at higher resolutions smoothly and crisply. It can render videos in minutes. A great thing to own if you’re on your PC all the time. But there’s a price to pay for this kind of quality, which is why we left it out: You can buy it on Amazon for $1949.99.

Second Runner-Up: SkyTech Archangel 960-I Gaming Desktop

While I love SkyTech PCs, the Archangel 960-I was left out because it’s a tad inferior to the five we let in, considering the price and performance. For computers at under $700, it does as good of a job as any pretty much. I also slightly prefer something other than the red & white combination. You can buy it on Amazon for $689.99.

Famous Last Words

Look, you can’t go wrong with the seven computers on the list here. If money isn’t a problem and you’re looking for the cream of the crop, get the CUK Trion gaming PC. However, it didn’t make our top 5 for a reason: Most of us, even avid gamers, don’t want to pay that much. PCs like the SkyTech Shadow AMD-1060-I are going to run any game extremely well. And if you’re looking for lighter gaming or consider yourself a noob, there’s nothing better than the CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3100A, which doesn’t set you back too much. Obviously, you can dive into the vast world of gaming desktops and try to find the perfect fit for you out of the countless options. But if you stick to our recommendations, regardless of the gaming desktop you choose, I’m pretty sure you’ll be more than satisfied.

Reward Your Children With Internet Time for Chores With Kudoso

Kudoso Wireless Router

Aiming to get children away from the Internet and doing the things that they should be doing instead, Kudoso is a reward based Internet router.

Have you ever tried to get a teenager away form Facebook or Twitter by asking them to put in some elbow grease and clean the house? Exactly. You may as well be trying to remove your molars with a knife and fork, a bag of ice to serving as the anaesthetic. It’s not that physically painful of course but it’s probably pretty close because who really wants to do chores or housework, especially when you’re young and have selfies on Instagram to worry about over grey hairs and joint pain? Getting your children to do as they’re asked needn’t be such an effort though which is why the Kudoso wireless router helps provide you with the one surefire way to get a young person to do anything: take away their Internet.

‘Taking away their Internet’ isn’t quite the way the Kudoso wireless router pitches itself on Kickstarter, though, it actually boasts itself as being able to do the opposite; rewarding with Internet access rather than removing it, but the policies are all the same. How Kudoso works is that via its web interface, you can set a predetermined list of tasks that reward the user (your children or whoever) in question with points which they can in turn cash in for Internet time. The tasks can be whatever you like, it seems, so if on one day your teen’s bedroom rivals a pig sty after a post-piggy rave then you can add that to the list even if ‘wash the dishes’ and ‘do the laundry’ were only there previously. Alternatively, Kudoso’s pairing with learning group Khan Academy means that you can even make academia a task for points. There are also more specific controls that make going to certain sites more expensive so for example the price for Facebook might be higher than YouTube or Twitter, depending on your own choice.

Should Kudoso pass its $50,000 Kickstarter goal it’s looking at a release date of August 2014, which for most is just enough time to get your child in shape to study up ahead of a new school year, or maybe the Summer has just made them a little disobedient? The choice is yours and the reasons for using Kudoso aren’t even limited to your children, theoretically anyone in the family could be cut off from the Internet (even yourself) if you feel so inclined to set that up. Furthermore, it’s also said that FitBit compatibility is in the pipeline and that fitness activities will be able to be redeemed for points. That’s a stretch goal though and for now an amount of $89 will get you the Kudoso software (which is only compatible with a few routers) while forking out $119 gets you the Kudoso router itself, so if its features seem worthy, follow the link below to back to find out how to back the project.
