Dramatic Digs in Shanghai

drama_00

The Drama Hotel lives up to its name in every sense of the word! Inspired by the immersive theater piece “Sleep No More”, every detail of these artistic accommodations is thoughtful curated to inspire the imagination.

The 26 guest rooms are designed in British style. Each room is unique, and has its own secrets to be dug out. Even the staff, whether a waiter or front desk attendant, are hired actors who help guide visitors to explore. Guests can make a reservation of a book, a movie, or a weekly dinner with a playwright, drama star, drama critics or movie critics. “The Drama” offers a free exhibition platform for any and all things drama!

A Chic Curry Cafe

cari_madame_01

The interior and exterior revamp of Cari de Madame by Taipei Base Design Center is as simplistic as this curry cafe’s menu! The project originally took inspiration from the Chinese word for “diner” … “can-ting”. “Can” references the meal, which is in front of “ting”, the eating place. This informed the open layout and high visibility between chef’s quarters and customer.

Contrasting design details in yellow and black define the food preparation area and dining area with room for around 30. A clever addition (notice above the bar) are built-in holders for indicator cards that visitors can hand over to indicate their food choices. It’s even simple to order!

Get Ready for Apartment Envy

33_01

It’s hard to look at this flat and not be jealous of the people who get to call it home! Titled “33 Kinds of Joys of Life”, it’s the latest work from Taipei Base Design Center located in Taipei City, Taiwan.

Yes, the furnishings are stellar – a handsome chesterfield sofa, French chairs, modern “floating” TV, an old country style dining table, etc… but it’s the structure and layout itself that makes it stand out. It’s been thoughtfully designed to be as open and transparent as possible, avoiding barriers and bisecting walls wherever possible. Even the bedroom’s partition is an entire French window. The openness and immense amount of natural light allow for an interesting interior motif that’s surprisingly quite dark with calming tones of blue and grey.

Mastering Interior Minimalism

simple_01

A great mind once told me that making an effort to have less than 100 things visible in your home at any time would not only declutter your aesthetic but also your mind! The idea: have less, be more! The “Simple, Practical Home” (a perfect name for this interior up-do) reminds me of this notion. It makes the most of a relatively small space by utilizing built-ins, floor to ceiling windows, thoughtfully placed mirrors, and defining illumination. The structural beauty allows for a reduction in the need for other objects, all of which are thoughtfully chosen to break up space while providing a place to rest, eat, work or entertain.

Versatile Interior Vibes

this_house_01

Simply called “This House”, the point of this interior/spatial design project by Taipei Base Design Center isn’t about style at all. Rather, it’s been thoughtfully designed to check and allocate resources with consideration of the possibilities of this house in the future.

The living room, dining room, kitchen and office are all open, but they can also be used independently. Each can be connected or separated depending on necessity and situational requirements. Many of the spaces can be transformed for different uses in the future such as the office into a bedroom. Other spaces like the dining room double as a second working area, or the main closet which houses video/audio equipment on one side while the reverse side serves as dining room storage. In keeping with this ultra-versatile vibe, you won’t find any frill or over-decoration in any single space, making it easy to envision and execute an easy spatial switch if needed.
