Dresses Crafted From Subway Wrappers

Dresses Crafted From Subway Wrappers
Sandwich franchise Subway held a competition at New York Fashion Week. The 4 designer participants were expected to make high fashion frocks out of Subway sandwich wrappers and napkins. They all look amazing. Super fancy. As for how they got all those sandwich wrappers, well, I think we all know who made that happen. Jared. [...]

Last December, these Disney princess inspired dresses debuted at the Harrods’ Christmas window display. Inflatable Boat Dress: Great for Fashion Emergencies

boat dress Inflatable Boat Dress: Great for Fashion Emergencies
Whatever floats your boat. This raft dress combines fashion and floating in a bizarre way. I’m no fashion expert (I learned everything I know from Project Runway) but I believe this is a prime example of avant-garde. It was designed by Jacqueline Bradley who says it actually does float. Whether or not it fits through the door is a whole different question. (cleo via neatorama)

A Toilet Paper Wedding Dress

Charmin, best known for their weird commercials featuring bears who don’t know how to wipe properly, and Cheap-Chic-Weddings.com just wrapped up their 9th annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest. The designers could only use Charmin brand toilet paper, tape, glue, needle, and thread to make the frocks. First place went to Mimoza Haska who used 16 rolls of TP, Elmer’s glue, paper tape, and TWO TYPES of glitter glue, regular and glow-in-the-dark. Well, no wonder this dress won. GLITTER GLUE WINS ALL.

See the second and third place dresses below. Both of which are super impressive, unfortunately they didn’t use enough glitter glue.

Wedding Dress Made Of Divorce papers

In a move that is as cynical as it is depressing, 15-year old Demi Barnes made this wedding dress using over 1,500 divorce papers. The project is meant to be a statement: that so many people often rush into marriage only to get divorced soon after. Damn, can you believe that? Only 15 years old and already more jaded than my great Aunt Betsy. She just got divorced for the fifth time and she is mega bitter! Sure, I think we can all agree that some people be getting married all willy nilly while the rest of us are taking bets on how long it’s gonna last because we know that mess is only gonna end in D-vorce, might as well try and make a little $$$ in the process, amirite? But c’mon! There are plenty of couples who get married because they have true love, plus like a mutual respect and appreciation for one another or whatever. And oftentimes, those people end up being together for eternity and stuff! Of course the rest of us are insanely jealous because SERIOUSLY WE GET IT YOU’RE IN LOVE, OKAY? STOP RUBBING IT IN, GOD! but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful.

Beautiful Dresses Made From Food

‘Wearable Foods’ is a collection of pretty dresses made out of different fruits and vegetables. The fresh produce-clothing was created and photographed by Artist Yeonju Sung. Great job, Yeonju! Admittedly, I’m not much of a fruits & veggies type gal, but I still find these impressive. Ooh, I wonder if she takes commissions? I would totally get down on a pizza dress. Definitely a pepperoni/sausage combo with extra cheese. Partially because those would compliment my skin tone best, but also because those are my favorite toppings!

Bride Creates Wedding Gown From 10,000 Recycled Bread-Bag Clips

What happens to the clip that comes along with your loaf of bread? You probably keep it tightly wrapped around the package, you do good’r. I toss them. I don’t have time to mess around, and chances are, I’m finishing those slices before they have time to go bad. It drives my better half crazy. What I should do, is start saving them like one Aussie bride did. Then I can be like “See. See! I had a better use for them after all!” Maybe Stephanie Watson is onto something.  She used 10,000 Bread Bag Clips that were collected over the course of a decade by her, her husband-to-be, and countless family and friends, to create her surprisingly pretty wedding gown.

World’s Longest Dress Is Long

This is the World’s Longest Dress. It’s long. Like loooooong. Number-wise that comes out to be 50 feet long. And 1500 square feet wide. Now that’s what I call a tent. A circus tent! The mondo frock was created by designer Henry Holland for the opening ceremony of the newest Leeds shopping center. It was modeled by an aerial acrobat, Colette Morrow. She… must have some really long legs. Legs for days. No — weeks. Either that or she’s wearing some super sky-high heels. Like, literally, sky-high. I bet she could touch the sun!

This Bacon Dress Is Breakfasty Chic

Iowa just held their 6th annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival in Des Moines. Over 10,000 pounds of bacon was offered to the 8,000 attendees. Pshhh, that’s only like a pound and a quarter of bacon each. Practically nothing! Must’ve been a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bacon) type dealie. This is a dress made entirely of bacon by a local seamstress created for the 2013 Bacon Queen pageant which took place at the fest. The lucky winner? Kim Pfannebecker, who fit perfectly into the greasy frock. What are the responsibilities of the Bacon Queen? Bringing pork to the people? Perhaps reigning over the pigs? Or eating tons of bacon? Maybe making appearances at local events?  I don’t know. But it all sounds very overwhelming. Except for the ‘eating tons of bacon’ part. I think we’d all be happy to take over that duty.

The Dress Store Called…

I don’t think there’s a better way to spend New Year’s Eve than enveloped in George Costanza’s face. Erin Pearce is one lucky girl, because that’s just how she rang in 2013. She used SpoonFlower.com, a site that does custom on-demand fabric printing, to create the world’s only (presumably) George Costanza print fabric, then sewed the dress herself. Luckily for the rest of the world, Ms. Pearce says she’s considering taking some commissions from people who have seen the dress and are desperate for their own, which should also mean, “the rest of the world.” I mean, there’s even a matching hair bow.
