LG prepares a second high-end smartphone for 2015

LG-G-Pro-2

LG gets on top of the fight for the leading flagship and creates a new high end device that will come out this year. This case is akin to that of their competitor Samsung, who does similar things with their Galaxy S line and the Note.

One of the executives at LG, Eason Shao, confirmed the development and release of a new, powerful gadget by them. The buzz mill indicates it might be a successor of the LG G Pro 2, and there is even some talk of featuring a stylus as its principal accesory.

This device might sport a 5,9 inches screen capable of 2K resolution, and would run on 4 Gb RAM. Qualcomm might be working on the processor, but as opposed to the LG G Pro 2, this version might be available worldwide. When it comes to the rest of the features, Shao was silent, leaving us to wonder what else might be inside this top of its class smartphone. We also do not know when this device is coming out, but speculation is rampant and most outlets theorize it will be around fall.

As of now, this smartphone would fit the same space as the G4 and Flex 2, both highly regarded sets that got quite some praise on the last CES in Las Vegas. On top of this, the Asian market is about to see the release of the LG G4 Stylus and the LG G4c, which is sort of a “Mini” version of the G4.

LG are aiming high, and expect a better over-all performance by about 30% when compared to 2014. Will they be able to achieve this?

LG patents wearable smartphone

LG smartwatch patent 1

“Just add a strap to it!” – LG plans to bridge the gap between smartphones and smartwatches, and it’s gonna take a strap, but also a few other functionalities.

LG introduced a new patent that shows a smartphone which can turn and serve as a smartwatch by using a strap. Now, let us clarify from the get-go: this is a patent, and it doesn’t mean LG are already producing these devices – the ideas from many patents just never come to be realized, and this is more interesting from what it implies for the future of LG and their technological pursuits more than the product itself.

The team at Phone Arena claim that LG’s phone would have to be entirely flexible, both screens and internal components, so they can “bend” along with the strap-bracelet, hooking up by using magnets.

This is just the design for an idea, and there’s a long distance between having an idea and knowing how to make it happen. LG has already done a bit of progress with the LG G Flex and the G Flex 2, but there is still quite a distance between these and a completely flexible device.

Even so, LG aren’t the only developers interested in the field, as we had already seen Samsung at the CES 2013, who had shown an amazing device that could bend, which had impressed everyone, but was only a prototype so far. The South Korean giant had announced the past month that maybe next year they would begin producing completely flexible phones.

We will have to wait until 2016 or 2017 to see if developers eventually cash in on these ideas, or if this is all just a pipe dream.

A picture of the LG G4 emerges: is that a curved smartphone?

LG G4

We have a new round of leaks concerning the LG G4, of impending release this summer. This time around is a picture of what the phone will look like via a leak.

The next LG phone is coming, and thanks to the team at OnLeaks we have an idea of what the phone might end up looking like. This team is rather reliable, having leaked the HTC M9 and the Galaxy S6 before anyone, and now they’ve impressed the world with a picture of a curved smartphone which they claim is the LG G4.

According to the OnLeaks team, the new smartphone will become curved in the same fashion the LG Flex 2 was, and will be bigger than the LG G3, although slightly thicker too.

This might sound like an alarm bell to some: the tendency is to create slimmer, smaller phones, at least when it comes to flagships, but if LG is willing to let go of that in order to give this phone a particular characteristic, we’ll just have to wait and see. These guys know what they’re doing, they created the Nexus 5 after all.

LG backing off tablets for now, would rather circle smartphone wagons

lg-backing-off-tablets-focus-on-cellphones

LG has decided not to chip in any more tablets to the huge pile that's already out there, and will focus on smartphones instead. It hasn't exactly stormed the market anyway -- with recent tab offerings like the Optimus Pad LTE falling flat -- and has said that the move would free it up to improve its No. 4 spot on the world's cellphone charts. It insists the decision has nothing to do with Microsoft's recent Surface announcement, and says it doesn't compete in that particular sphere anyway. So that's that.
