When it’s okay to play with your food!

spaghetti_monster_colander_1

There are a rare bunch of times it’s acceptable to play with your food, and this is one of them! Made by OTOTO (the makers of the world’s favorite Loch Ness soup ladle) the Spaghetti Monster colander easily becomes yet another adorable monster that finds its place in our kitchen.

The Spaghetti Monster, a delightfully bewildered looking creature, strains your spaghetti in a manner that makes it look like it has a wild messy blonde mane when loaded with the steamed noodles. The colander bowl forms the perforated body of the monster, with four tiny legs that give it balance. The eyes become the handles that one would grip (the eyeballs fit well into the palms, and no, I didn’t think I’d ever utter those words!), making it easy for shaking the colander every now and then so that the water drains through completely… although do be gentle! The Spaghetti Monster has feelings too!

OTOTO’s designs just simply warm the heart! They have the most beautiful, adorable, yet supreme kitchen, bath, and desktop accessories you’ll ever see and when you do see them, you won’t be able to stop that smile!

The Mon Cherry (even the name’s just too adorbs!) spoon sets are sure to be the most delightful little item in your baking kit. This set of four measuring spoons come in a rich red fruity avatar. Designed to look like a bunch of differently sized cherries, these little spoons are actually perfect for measuring out ingredients while baking. Vibrant colors mean they’ll never get lost or misplaced (they’re also conveniently bundled by a plastic ring too), and they come with a leaf that doubles up as an egg yolk separator! How amazing is that! Perfect for the child in you, or if your house has a masterchef junior!

When You Wish Upon a Pin

wishpins

Trying to stay organized at your workspace can be difficult. But what I have found to personally help me is having fun, quirky and really cool office tools to help me keep on top of things. Designer Tania Pons came up with a design that I’m very fond of. One, because it’s obviously a fun item to add to my office supply collection, but also because it reminds me of my childhood.

When I was young, I was always told that if I blew on a Dandelion, and made a wish, that those wishes I made would come true. The Wishpin, which Tania said was inspired by the nature around us, looks just like a dandelion, but instead of blowing the seeds, you remove the pins to hold your notes, thoughts or even wishes on a cork board.

This flower is a great, cheerful addition to any office space, but also is a unique and brilliant way to keep those pins together without misplacing them. I “wish” I had a few of these for my office space.

Mamma Nessie Colander Is a Cute Match for Boiled Vegetables

Mama Nessie 1

It may seem odd for a manufacturer of kitchen appliances to get inspiration for the design of their products from such cryptids as the Loch Ness Monster, but OTOTO Design appears to have hit a gold mine with their Mamma Nessie colander .

The Mamma Nessie colander comes a few months after the Nessie ladle made waves on the Web. The reason behind the naming is quite simple: due to its similar shape and larger dimensions, the colander spoon looks much like a nest for the ladle, and the two are spectacular together.

OTOTO, the design studio that came up with the idea of creating all sorts of funny-looking kitchen gadgets, realized that most products found in stores nowadays have a pretty dull aspect. Young people, in particular, could benefit from colorful appliances and innovative designs, as it’s nothing more depressing than to cook in a black and inox environment.

Measuring 12x11x29 cm, Mamma Nessie is entirely made out of plastic. Personally, I would have preferred silicone, as it withstands much higher temperatures. However, given its purpose and the fact it mostly comes in contact with boiling water, the colander spoon should be safe.

The dimensions of the spoon make Mamma Nessie adequate for boiled vegetables, but short pasta is also an option to consider. As far as I can tell, the colander spoon won’t play well with spaghetti or tagliatelle, so if you’re looking for a tool to handle these, you should probably check the other products from OTOTO’s portfolio.

Mamma Nessie is currently being sold by SOHO Design Shop for $18.90, in two color options: green and turquoise. A purple version isn’t yet available, but considering that the ladle comes in this color, it shouldn’t take long until Mamma is dressed in it, too. In time, this colander spoon might be sold by more stores, but for the time being, the green version is exclusive to SOHO.

It is also possible to buy the Nessie set, which includes the colander spoon and the ladle. This way, you get to add a touch of color to your kitchen, while also saving some money, as getting the two separately costs more. Sets of differently colored Mamma Nessies should be available soon, considering that ladle sets are already being sold.
