The 20th anniversary dualshock 4 will be sold separately

On december, last year, the PlayStation brand turned 20, so they released a limited edition PS4 with the classic colors from the PS1. To keep the celebration going, Sony announced the relaunch of the DualShock 4 grey controllers in the same gamma, which will be sold separately without the bundle.

The 20th anniversary DualShock 4 shown in Las Vegas last year is going to be relaunched on september for European countries, and in late september/early october for American territories. There are no certainties if other regions will also get their own limited edition DualShock 4, but Sony is doing their part to keep the 20th anniversary celebration going.

Besides the new color gamma tributing the original PlayStation, this new edition of the DualShock 4 isn’t any different from the regular, original controllers which came in black, red, yellow and blue. What’s more, with the touch pad taking a huge portion of the controller’s front, there is not a lot of room left to feature the PS symbols like the ones that came with the original 20th anniversary PS4 did, but will feature the “dots” seen in every other DualShock 4 model instead. And yet, despite all of this, it gets our nostalgia glands going, and the grey finishing looks just beautiful. Sony, can we get commercially released bundles all in grey? We’d probably buy a PS4 all over again.

A killstreak or achievement collection is not the only way to show status when it comes to gaming: you could literally flash your 24K gold controller instead.

The new consoles by Sony and Microsoft have been out for a while, yet we had not seen a great amount of modding performed on them yet. It’s finally starting to happen, though, and now we get to see the PS4 and Xbox One controllers in 24-karat gold versions. Keep going down for more pictures.

The process to create this effect is quite long and complicated. It was done by ColorWare, who struggled and succeeded in creating a beautiful glossy finish that weigh 24k, and now can be bought for $299 each – if you consider you’re very literally buying gold, it’s not that expensive, is it?

The controllers chosen for this mod were the DualShock 4 and Xbox One controllers. It is only the outside that has been modified, and everything else about them remains intact, and more importantly, functional. You can very much literally play with these. Only 25 of each exist, so if you want one for yourself, be sure to snatch it ASAP, especially considering these are absolutely going to become a collector’s item.

The same modder we had seen creating portable versions of Microsoft and Sony’s latest consoles is back in action with his biggest project yet.

Halo or The Last of Us? How about both? The latest project by master modder Eddie Zarick consists of a laptop case expanded and rearranged to hold both Microsoft and Sony’s latest consoles, the Xbox One and PS4 respectively. This was done as a request, and took over a month of work. There is a switch on the back users can flick to toggle between consoles (only one can be on at a time), but surprisingly, no heating issues at all.

We had seen Zarick’s previous mods at Walyou (Xbook Duo: Two Microsoft Gaming Systems In One Laptop and Portable PS4 laptop mod: this is your destiny), but this is the first time he’s combined these two consoles in one single case. They just keep getting better and better! Now if only he manages to cram a Wii U in there for some mandatory Smash Bros breaks, it’ll be just perfect.

Sony claimed that the PS Vita would make home console experiences enjoyable on the go, but it was actually a modder who really made it happen.

From the creator of the Xbook One, the portable Xbox One mod comes the Sony counterpart. This is a PlayStation 4 shrunk to laptop size, and is called the PlayBook 4. Taking inspiration from both the retail PS4 and Destiny PS4 bundle, the PS4 comes in two colors, black and white, with a matching controller.

Just like with the Xbook One, users can get in touch with the mod creator and get their own PlayBook 4 made for $1,095 USD if they send the console, or $1,395 if they would rather Ed bought it himself instead. Too bad the Wii U is already pretty portable thanks to its second screen, and we won’t see the Nintendo equivalent of this, right?

Limited Edition Frozen PS4 Launching July 16 to Japan

Frozen PS4 Japan image 1

It might be the heart of summer, but a cold spell in the form of this limited edition PlayStation 4 console is heading soon to Japan.

Let it go? Oh, no, no, no. Apparently people won’t “Let It Go” as the popular, often played to death tune from Disney’s animated musical of 2013 Frozen describes.

Especially in Japan, where Sony will soon be releasing a limited edition PlayStation 4 system that features a Frozen-themed portrait of the movie’s leading sisters, Elsa and Ana, engraved across the front of the console.

It’s a pretty classy etching – gold on black is a solid pairing, of course – but one to only be admired by Japanese shoppers when it goes on sale this July 16 for 42,980 yen (about $424 USD). While I don’t have official word, I’m pretty sure this PS4 isn’t arriving stateside.

Hmm, I guess it was either getting this, or the white PS4 that comes with the PlayStation 4 Destiny bundle that ships later this fall. And if that bit of news makes you sadder than a snow queen living in a frigid, icy castle, well… then do I have a song for you!
