A City in Synch

synch_01

The latest work from Apical Reform, titled “Synchronicity,” is the re-imagining of an industrialized city, replete with gear systems, ascending from the earth and soaring towards the sky. Figuratively synchronized, the elaborate, seven-tiered assembly evokes a sense of fascination as one witnesses the complexity of this ultra mechanized city. Analogous to the amorphous yet structured sprawl of a new age metropolis, Synchronicity incorporates multitudes of gears made from sheets of aluminum, layered over one another with acute precision and balance. The resulting a steampunk-ish yet delicately intricate art piece!

Do the Wave

02

The Betula Chair is one that you’d almost rather stare at than sit in! Modern yet raw, monocoque yet structurally complex, it’s an example of fluid deconstructivism at its finest. Made entirely of birch ply, these layers upon layers form a cantilever structure that is both stable and ergonomic. It’s a functional sculpture that’s sure to get better with age. Do want!
