Foodsniffer Tells You If Your Meat Has Gone Bad

screen-shot-2016-11-25-at-7-25-57-am

How many times have you pulled out a three day old uncooked steak from the fridge and stuck it right up your nose, wondering if it’s still good to cook. Or taken a hearty whiff from that tuna steak in the hopes it hasn’t gone bad. It’s not always easy to be sure and I’ve found myself asking others for their opinion before taking a chance on some potentially bad meat. Well with the Foodsniffer, a handheld connected smart device, I wouldn’t have to ask anyone at all. I’d simply connect it to my smartphone, prop it up right against the meat and take a measurement of the gases emanating from it. In seconds I’d be able to know if it’s safe to ingest or if it gets tossed. No taking chances, no second guessing, and no botulism! It’s $89.

HB Ring Lets You Feel Your Partner’s Heartbeat

HB-ring-by-the-touch

Being in a long distance relationship must suck, but we think it sucks a lot less now in the Information Age than it did back when you had to send a freaking letter by boat. Imagine waiting one month for a reply? Anyway, one of the things you can now do to make yourself feel physically closer to your loved one is to purchase these rings. Called HB rings, they pair with your smartphone and feature a heartbeat sensor. That information is then shared over the Internet, and reproduced on the matching ring, through tiny pulsations, so that each wearer can feel the heartbeat of their significant other no matter where in the world they are. It’s not like the ring beats non-stop either, you have to tap it to feel the heartbeat and your partner won’t be notified each time, so you can be as creepy as you want without scaring them off. There’s also a function that randomly initiates the pulsations, reminding you that your love is alive. Each ring is coated in sapphire which makes them scratch resistant and water proof, and the battery is rated to last 160 hours on standby and 14 hours while active. It’s a cool product, but it’s also one of those pre-production crowdfunded campaigns where you’re not 100% sure you’ll get what’s on the pictures. It’ll cost you $599 for a stainless steel version, and $2,990 for an 18K Rose Gold edition to find out. Shipping is slated to start in December 2017.

Toasteroid Prints Custom Images On Your Bread

toasteroid-3

We’ve seen toasters that can print a specific image onto your toast by using a custom shaped heating element. Heck, just last month we wrote about a Death Star Toaster that printed a TIE Fighter on your bread. The thing about these is that the image is fixed, and will always print the same thing. Toasteroid however is a “smart” toaster that connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth and is able to print just about anything by using a “high density micro-filament heating system”, a kind of dot matrix heating element. The app lets you create your image, and upload it to the toaster, which then just browns your bread and brands it with your creation. Precise browning control is a feature, as is optional synchronization to a weather forecast service that can print its output directly on your bread. The possibilities are endless and if you have children or loved ones (and who doesn’t), consider how fun you could make their mornings by printing custom notes for them on their food. Prices start at $79 for Early Birds, and goes up to $85 afterwards.

Cronzy Pen Scans Any Color You Want, Then Writes In That Color

Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 7.28.09 AM

The headline pretty much sums up what this fantastic pen can do. It’s called Cronzy, and packs a special ink with a mechanism that will mix it on the fly and produce any of 16 million colors. You can pair the pen with a smartphone and select any of these colors through an app. Better yet, the Cronzy has a color scanner: just point it at any object and it’ll instantly start writing in that color! It works a lot like the eyedropper tool in most photo editing applications. The pen comes with 5 interchangeable nibs so you can write and draw in different styles, with different width lines. It’s stored in a special carrying case, which also doubles as a charger.

Imagine the possibilities for any artist out there. Provided it works as advertised, and the ink doesn’t run out too quickly or cost too much to replace, the Cronzy could be a hit. It’s being crowdfunded on Indiegogo at the moment, and they’re still far from their $200,000 goal. But given the nature of the product, we wouldn’t be surprised if they went viral at any moment and smashed through their objective. It’s still time to get in the Very Early Pricing of $139, and hurry up because it goes up to $219 after that.

The Bagel Smart Tape Measure Actually Seems Pretty Nifty

Bagel-Tape

Digital innovations in the field of tape measures have been sort of rare, but Bagel Labs is taking care of that with their release of the Bagel Tape. It’s a bit of a misnomer since there’s no actual tape to speak of, but it is a measuring device that packs a few features never seen elsewhere. It works on three modes: String, Wheel, and Remote Mode. On the first, you simply pull the measuring string out and the digital display will tell you exactly how far out it’s been extended. On Wheel mode, you hold the Bagel Tape with one hand and roll it on a surface to get its length. And finally, on Remote More, an ultrasonic sensor will bounce off walls and tell you how far away they are. All measurements can be sent to your smartphone, and annotated with a voice memo. So that way you don’t have to write anything down, and you’ll easily remember which measurement is for what. It’s nifty, and it’s decently priced at $60.

Smart Toothbrush Promises To Speed Brushing Up Significantly

glaresmile-toothbrush-2

No one genuinely enjoys brushing their teeth, it’s just something you do because you have to. At least that’s how we feel about it. But if the tedium of having to move a plastic stick up and down your teeth is just too much work for you, the folks behind the GlareSmile brush have something for you. Featuring three rotating and pulsating brushes, you simply have to glide the head over your teeth and the brushes take care of the rest automatically, cleaning three surfaces at once and speeding the process up significantly. A touchscreen on the handle lets you switch between the different brushing modes, which include ‘sensitive teeth’ and ‘gum cleaning’, among others. Interchangeable heads mean several people in your household can use it, and a clever charging dock means you can keep the entire kit nice and tidy. Smartphone connectivity brings data tracking and analysis, letting you see info like brushing time, pressure applied, and a bunch of other variables for the data geek among you. It’s a reasonable €99 pledge (around $112USD) to get your own, with shipping expected around December of this year.

Hot or Cold, The Yecup Keeps Your Drink’s Temperature Constant All Day

all-weather-smart-mug1-640x533

You might think you’re looking at a Thermos, but not quite. The Yecup is a connected drinking vessel with a 10,000mAh battery and enough tech to heat up or cool down the liquids it holds, and keep them there all day. If it senses the temperature deviating from what you’ve set, it’ll fire up its mechanism and bring it back. It uses Bluetooth to connect to your smartphone, through which you can make all the adjustments you want. Left in the morning with a hot coffee but suddenly realized you’d rather have an iced one? No problem. And of course, when you’re carrying a large battery around, you can use it for other things, like charging your phone or other electronics. The Yecup is made from stainless steel, and is easily washable, though it’s recommended not to stick it in the dishwasher. The 12oz. cup is fully funded on IndieGogo, and will cost you a $125 pledge.

Is There A Market For A Smart Mattress That Rats On Your Partner’s Infidelity?

screen-shot-2016-04-18-at-11-43-58-am

The Durmet Smarttress is a mattress embedded with 24 ultrasonic movement sensors, and a WiFi chip that then relays information gathered from these sensors. They’re called “Lover Detection System” and their purpose is to alert you when your bed is being used “in a questionable way”. In other words, if your spouse is cheating on you, you’ll get a dandy little notification on your smartphone. Worse yet, launching the app will also inform you of certain metrics involved during said incident, sharing metrics like “Speedometer” and “Intensity and impact per minute”. So not only will you be able to know your partner cheated, you’ll know just how much fun they had while doing so. It’s… beyond creepy, to be honest. And we’re wondering if anyone in their right mind would ever drop $1,750 on a mattress that essentially symbolizes and embodies the mistrust and dysfunction that must be present in a relationship for its purchase to be justified. We’d like to suggest that the money would most certainly be better spent on couples counselling, or even a hefty amount of alcohol… just to forget the fact that you’re suspecting your loved one of infidelity.

iSommelier Extracts Oxygen From The Air, Smartly Lets Your Wine Breathe

isommelier-smart-wine-decanter-xl

If you spent a stupid sum of money on a bottle of wine, you’re probably going to want to do yourself a favour and enjoy it properly. Yes, that does mean you have to let it breathe and oxidize before you drink it, which can take time and involves a fair bit of know-how.

iSommelier filters the ambient air to remove any impurities (moisture, dust, odors) and isolates oxygen from nitrogen and carbon dioxide. It aerates wine with a constant flow of purified and highly concentrated oxygen thanks to its advanced oxygen extraction system which uses no chemicals.

To be perfectly honest, we’re a little doubtful of its ability to actually separate oxygen from the other gases in our atmosphere, but we took our Chemistry classes so long ago, we could be wrong. If we just take the company’s word for it, the iSommelier will speed up the decanting process significantly, and you can track everything it’s doing through a connected smartphone application. It’s $1,499.

Beartooth Is Like A Walkie Talkie For Your Smartphone

beartooth

When you’re far from civilization, you lose a lot of privileges, like the ability to use your cellphone due to lack of signal. If you want to be able to stay in touch with your friends on your expedition, you can use traditional walkie talkies, which use their own radio waves to communicate. But… that’s a little old-school, isn’t it? Beartooth uses radio signals, but first pairs to your smartphone through Bluetooth. In this way, you can still use your smartphone to make calls, text, and even send location data to each other from as far away as 10 miles. Well, 5 miles for talking, and 10 miles for texting. Still, that’s pretty darn far when you’re in the wilderness, and can come in handy in more ways than one. Each user will need their own Beartooth, of course, but with a 4 day battery life there’s a pretty good chance your smartphone will run out of juice before it does. It’s $99 for 1, and $75 for two, if you pre-order now to take advantage of the 50% off full retail pricing.
