A Tasteful Basteful brush!

Sometimes even something as simple as a basting brush can use some design intervention. Brush Button by Li Weisi, is simple and effective and it still manages to look sleek! The brush is a slim piece of plastic that has bristles on one end, and does a u-bend on the other end. Not only does this make it easy to keep the brush in your basting liquid container (or even in your kitchen storage for that matter), its novel design allows it to be kept on a tabletop in a way where the bristles don’t touch the dirty kitchen counter… a problem most people have with their basting brushes. The little u-bend not only knocks two birds with one stone, it’s also ridiculously simple to injection mold. Howzzat!

The Brush Button is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award for the year 2015.

Broom broom pow!

funnel_broom_1

Every Indian child is familiar with being woken up and pushed out of bed because the maid wants to do her monthly ceiling cleaning in the morning. Cobwebs gather in the crevices, and come fluttering down when dusted. Now I’m staring at a solution so obvious, I wonder what exactly these broom-makers were up to all these years!

The Funnel Broom is literally the simplest thing. You’ve got your broom, and a funnel below it. Sweep them cobwebs, catch them cobwebs, and most importantly, dont wake them children up at 7 in the morning on a Sunday!

The Funnel Broom (as no surprise!) is the recipient of the famed the Red dot Best of the Best Award for the year 2015.

No-Touch Basting Tool

Brush Button is cleaner and more convenient to use than the conventional basting brush. It can be securely fastened to a cup in an upright position and ‘hung’ to dry after washing. It’s also less messy for the kitchen or cooking counter and is designed to rest horizontally, or kept upright by securely fastening to the sides of a cup to keep the handles clean. When the brush is rested in a horizontal position, the bending clip prevents the bristles from coming into contact with the tabletop, giving it an additional level of sanitization. The unique shape of the bending clip is completed via a simple injection moulding manufacturing process.

Brush Button is a Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2105 winner.

A Better Bodybag (Seriously)

bodybag_01

It’s almost Halloween, so let’s go to the dark side for a sec, shall we!? This reinvention of the bodybag is an entirely new processing system for disaster victims. The bodybag’s key function is to improve the classification process and enable families and loved ones to find the victims quickly. They’re designed to help rescue officers mark the victims as men or women, and further divide the bodies into the elderly, adults and the children — in the end, a total permutation of 6 identifying categories. In this systematic way, families can quickly find their loved ones. Rescue officers can withdraw a slot-in label to check the corresponding search categories. Personal objects of the victims, such as ID cards and jewellery, can also be indicated on the label. Families first match the category, before confirming the identities by the personal objects, and finally, they can open the body bags for a physical verification.

This concept is a Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2105 winner.
