The cooker that never wastes rice!

mirai_1

Asia’s most consumed grain is also asia’s most wasted. Rice is a staple in most parts of asia, but is never fully consumed. What do you do with a cupful of rice left over from a meal? There’s nothing you CAN do with it… it’s too little to store in the fridge, so it gets thrown away.

Ronald Tan’s idea is that even a small portion of leftover rice is food nevertheless, and should not be treated as waste. The Mirai Rice Cooker is designed to not just flawlessly cook your rice (with multiple settings on its control panel), but it also allows you to transform your leftover rice into crispy rice cakes for a post-meal snack! The base of the cooker comes molded with a pattern that allows you to place your leftover rice into triangular pieces. The Mirai then cooks the rice into flat crispy cakes that can be easily scooped off with the spatula that comes built into the Mirai. The inner surface of the cooker comes with a teflon coating to ensure your rice grains never get stuck to the Mirai, making it not just easier to cook with, but also keep clean!

The Mirai Rice Cooker is a Red Dot Design Concept Award winner for the year 2017.

A Wee Washing Machine!

Swash

In an age where urban dwellers’ living spaces are shrinking, there simply isn’t room for big, bulky washing machines. Designed with this in mind, Swash is a compact appliance that makes it possible to do a quick freshening of a few items so you don’t have to lug your laundry to the laundromat so often!

It consists of the washing unit and the washing basket as well as a simple and intuitive control interface that consists of only four buttons; start, stop, timer up, and timer down. Like a standard washing machine, the basket holds the dirty laundry. The process is streamlined as the basket is directly attached to the washing unit which can be mounted on any pail using three spring-loaded clamps.

So how does it work? The answer is… no different that a standard washing machine! When the washing cycle starts, the basket moves in a rotational motion. Once washing completes, the pail is emptied and Swash transforms into a dry spinner. The activation button located on Swash’s handle indicates the hand position required to grab the unit in order to begin. The basket keeps the clothes in and filters the water out into the pail and with that, the process is complete!

Every bachelor’s dream gadget

swash_machine_1

Deep down, we may have played loads of Mass Effect, may have watched hours worth of Bond movies, but honestly… We would prefer the Swash over any hoverboard, or laser watch, or repulsor gun in the world. The Swash is a device that attaches itself over any bucket, turning it instantly into a makeshift washing machine. The upper component houses the rotary motor, and clamps onto both the regular bucket, and a special inner bucket (into which you store your clothes). The regular bucket remains stationary, while the inner bucket vigorously rotates back and forth, simulating a top-load washing machine. Pinch me, I think I’m dreaming!

The Swash is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award for the year 2016… and rightfully so!
