iPhone Case with Front and Back Lighting

Whether you’re taking a selfie or a “regular” shot (and yes for some of you Instagram influencers and wannabes, a selfie is your regular shot; just a heads up there actually is a camera on the back of your phone, you’re welcome) the LuMee Duo Phone Case has you covered- in light.

This case, which comes in a variety of colors has a studio-quality front AND back facing LED light. Bath yourself in warm natural lighting that’s way brighter than the built-in flash. Get rid of those pesky shadows and dark areas and really showcase your true self in the best light. The LuMee Duo runs off a rechargeable battery that’s good for 30 minutes at full brightness. Of course even without the light, the case is protecting your phone from the wear and tear and drops that come with being a star like yourself.

You can choose either a matte or smooth glossy finish. It offers both side bumper and rear protection. Unfortunately it’s not available for the newest models just yet but you can get it for quite a number of models, so take a look and see if yours is covered.

Fidget Spinner iPhone Case

The must-have toy of 2017 meets the must have accessory of- well of every year since early humans started dropping their iPhones and cracking the screens. That’s got to be back in the caveman days or something, who can really remember a time before iPhones anyway? Not me. The Fidget Spinner iPhone Case is actually quite practical at both protecting your phone and keeping your fingers and mind occupied. It’s basically just a standard thin case with a fidget spinner attached to the back. Side view:

You can use the fidget spinner while it’s attached to the case either by putting your phone down and spinning it, or just spin it while you hold and use the phone. They claim the high quality bearings will spin for 3 minutes. I suppose you could even hold the fidget spinner part and spin your phone, although that might not be the best idea since you phone could go flying off. That’s because the fidget spinner is detachable:

Just in case there was a time when you didn’t want to fidget spin, you could leave it at home. Or detach and give it to your kids (which is a total win, they’re no longer borrowing your phone to keep themselves occupied. You get the phone, they get the spinner. Spinner winner chicken dinner.). Comes in a few different colors and fits various models of the iPhone (clickthrough below and scroll to the related items to see the other choices).

Phone Case with Built In Spray Bottle

smart spray case
Just when you think you’re out and you’ve seen phone cases that do everything, then they pull you back in. The Smart Spray Case is the phone case with an integrated spray bottle in the back. The case has a removable bladder that you fill up with a small funnel. Any liquid can go inside:

Once you put it back together, just press the nozzle to spray it out. The big question of course is what could you possibly put in your phone case? Lots of things- perfume, suntan lotion, hand sanitizer, breath spray and more. Anything you might need to spray in a pinch you can put in. Window cleaner or other cleaning products? Sure, if that’s your thing. Booze? Sure, if you want to spray it. The case has a clean modern design that doesn’t protrude too far from the back of the phone (considering) so nobody needs to know about your little sanitizer obsession. Right now it’s sized for the iPhone 5/5S although I suppose they could make other sizes going forward if it’s successful.

Review: Pelican Protector Case for iPhone 6

protector images from sell sheet.indd
We were sent a Pelican Protector Case for our iPhone 6 for review. The case is available in 6 different color choices, we went with a black one (with blue trim). Out of the box the case is a one-piece case that slips right over the phone very easily. It’s a rubbery material with enough give to let your phone in but also rigid enough to hold it firmly in place. Inside it’s soft so it won’t scratch the back of your phone.

As you can see from our photo, the front side of the case does have a small “lip” that extends upwards around the screen. This is definitely a plus as it protects the phone if you place it face down by keeping the glass screen off the table (and could potentially help in case of face down drops).
pelican protector2
The back of the case has an attractive two-tone color scheme with a pair of horizontal raised stripes. The Pelican branding is the same color as the case so while you can tell who made the case, you’re not a walking advertisement. As you can see there are cutouts for the camera lens and flash. We found them large enough that they did not interfere with camera usage in any way.
pelican protector side
From the side view you can see the recessed area for the volume on/off switch. Larger fingers might find it a little tough at times to slip in there to press it (although it’s typically not an often used switch anyway). The case overlays both the volume control switches below that and the power button on the opposite side. Pressing the case to hit these buttons is not really as smooth as we would like but on the other hand it can also prevent you from accidentally hitting it and turning your phone off by mistake. Another cutout so you could press the buttons directly would probably be ideal.
pelican protector bottom
Here’s the bottom of the case. As you can see the case allows access to the port as well as clearings for the microphone, headphone jack, and speaker. The depth of the case made it a little tricky to plug in the lightning cable, we have to kind of guide it in there somewhat carefully.

Overall the case has a really clean look to it and nice feel in the hands. The material is a non-slip grippy type and the slightly rounded edges make it easy to hold. The case is certainly not the slimmest you can buy and it does add a small bit of size to the phone but that’s a tradeoff for padding that will protect your phone in the (likely) event of a drop. It weighs 1.4 ounces which adds minimal weight to the phone. It does not include a screen protector, so that’s something you will need to buy separately if you desire.

Bottom line: very solid case, looks great, will protect your phone.

Note: the case is exclusive to AT&T, you can buy it for $40 on their site here.

Stun Gun iPhone Case Keeps You Safe In Dark Alleys

iphone-stun-gun-case1

There’s a definite deterring element to seeing and hearing the spark of a stun gun; something about it screams instant pain, and rightfully so. So we’re intrigued by the Sun Gun Case by Yellow Jacket. This particular one is made for the iPhone 5/5S and is 30% more powerful than the iPhone 4/4S model. This means that at the press of two buttons (for safety reasons it’s not just one) you’ll generate a spark that’s 950,000V across, and which can cause a good amount of discomfort on any would-be assailants. And when it’s not sparking electricity across two electrodes, the case doubles as, well, a case for your phone. Sure, it’s likely a little bulkier than your slimmer, non-stun-gun cases, but that’s a small price to pay to be able to carry a serious self-defense tool. It’s $149.

What Your iPhone Has Always Needed: A… Handle?

fonhandle-1

Here’s a strange little product. It’s called Fonhandle, and it’s an iPhone case with a long handle attached. Or rather, it’s a handle for your iPhone. Say you… don’t want to raise your hand all the way up to your ear, then with the Fonhandle you can just raise it halfway there. And if you want to take a selfie from a somewhat different angle than what you’re used to, the Fonhandle has you covered there too. Matter of fact, we can’t think of many other uses and apparently nor can the makers, claiming as a feature that it has “other uses that have yet been discovered.” If you have $13 burning a hole in your pocket, their Kickstarter is in dire need of some traction. Surprisingly…

Ice Pop Phone Case

ice pop phone case Ice Pop Phone Case
No that’s not a real ice pop and ice cream pop on top of that iPhone- it’s a case. The Ice Pop Case (JP) looks like a realistic frozen treat place on the back of a phone. Complete with slightly unwieldy popsicle sticks hanging off the edge of your phone. They are as impressively real looking as they are baffling to explain why they even exist.
ice pop phone Ice Pop Phone Case
Appropriately enough there’s a bite taken out of each one right where the phone’s camera lens is. Definitely one of the odder cases we’ve come across (and we’ve definitely seen our share of bizarre ones). If you can navigate through the Japanese website above, you can own one of these for $40 or so. (via)

Cockroach iPhone Case

cockroach iphone case Cockroach iPhone Case
They say that cockroaches will outlive us all when the nuclear winter comes to destroy the planet. Or something like that. While these little bugs might be impressive with their survival abilities, you still probably don’t want to see one in your home. Unless it’s your phone’s case. In which case, bring on the case, witch.

This iPhone Cockroach Case is made of silicone so it’s tough like real cockroaches. It doesn’t have that satisfying crunch when you step on it though. I guess that’s a good thing when you’ve got an expensive iDevice in it’s soft shell. No need to call an exterminator, there’s an app for that. Still not as gross as the dead marine animal iPhone case though.

iPhone Case Made from a Dead Marine Animal

sea creature iphone case iPhone Case Made from a Dead Marine Animal
There are some truly strange iPhone cases out there but this one is a whole new level of bizarre. It’s made from a washed up giant marine isopod (a deep sea crustacean related to shrimp and crabs). The Toba Aquarium in Japan made 1000 of these limited edition phone cases from the exo-skeleton of the bug-looking sea creature.

The cases sold for just $29 each, which wouldn’t be notable at all except that they cost $72 to make each. How do they make their money? Volume. You probably wouldn’t have to worry about anyone walking off with your phone if you left it lying around in the isopod case. Weird weird stuff. (via rocketnews)
