A Safer Way to Dry your Hands and Hair

hair_dryer

I admit, I can spend a lot of time in the bathroom getting ready for my day and it can end up looking like a war zone afterwards with items spread around and cords all over the place – which definitely can be a shock hazard if not put away nice and neatly. However, storing items like my hair dryer is a pain, simply because there really isn’t a place to store it.

Designer Jaewan Choi feels my pain. Jaewan understands that in order to play it safe in the bathroom, something had to be created. The A’Design Award winning Hair and Hand Dryer is just the perfect solution. The Hair and Hand Dryer work in combination and is stored neatly on the bathroom wall.

The rechargeable, waterproof frame for the magic duo is also super safe, because in order to work, a button has to be pressed thus reducing the risk of shock. When you finish using the hair dryer, you just simply place it back on the holder to be recharged. A perfect pair that will fit any modern bathroom design.

Never knew a Traffic Cone to be so Dynamic

dynamic_traffic

During the day, it’s quite easy to see the brightly colored orange traffic cones lining the street around constructions zones or other driving hazards, but at night, most of them are barely lit and so it’s easy to run them over, or not see clearly what the dangers are that may lie ahead of you. This can cause a vehicle to run over the traffic cone, or be knocked down which can cause even more issues for the motorists to follow – an endless vicious cycle.

Well now we have the Dynamic Traffic Cone designed by Yuhui Wang. These environmentally friendly cones light up the way via their solar powered LED lights that make them more noticeable at night – even at a distance. The cones are easy to operate. Once you open the release, the LED lights will spring out to resemble a cone and can easily be replaced back into the cube for storage, taking up less space than the other type of cone we are accustomed to.

The bottom of the Cones are made from organic plastics which house the solar panels that light up the LED lighting. At 380mm wide x 380mm depth and 60mm height, these cones are perfect as a safe and convenient alternative to the traffic cones of yesterday, and definitely much easier on the eyes.

Sit that Lid Down

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the kitchen cooking over numerous pots and pans trying to remove lids, find a place to lay them down and making more of a mess than intended all while burning my fingers from the steam. We’ve all been there and have all found a way to just try and make it work.

Well fear no more, no more messy counter space, no more burned fingers, because now we have the LidSitter. The name says it all. The LidSitters awesomely unique design works with virtually all pots and pans and allows you to place lids, and other cooking utensils on the rims of pots and pans when not needed.

The LidSitter is made of a stainless steel wire-form and a nylon handle. Both materials are safe for both electric and gas stoves. Its even dishwasher safe! The spring style form allows for easy attachment to the top of the lid while securely holding it in place, you simply attach the LidSitter to the top and rest it on the side of the pan. All water, heat and stem is released back into the pan and away from counter space – so no more messy cleanup.

The LidSitter not only works with your pots and pans, but it can also hold your iPad, tablets or even cookbooks when not in use. Available in Black, Blue, Red and Yellow, you can even purchase your own amazing LidSitter too. I can’t wait to try this out myself.

Tick Tock the Cuckoo Clock

cockwoo_clock

I love Cuckoo clocks, they have always fascinated me since I was a child. My dad used to travel to Germany and brought one back when I was small and it was such a fun addition to the home. I’ve always wanted one my self, but the design of the older models just didn’t fit well with my home design style. Until now!

Intenxiv design group has created a modern take on the Cuckoo Clock. Their reason for chaining up the style is that they believe that since birds live in trees, that the clock should reflect that more so than a similar design style of a human house. So they created a tree like burrow for the cuckoo bird to live in on your wall.

The white clock face is on the sliced cylinder face which is angled for easily reading the time with a white hour hand and a blue minute hand. Each hour, the beautiful, blue bird comes out of his little burrow to sing a sweet song each hour – just like the older version of the clock. A great modern twist to an old classic.

T-T-T-T-Touch Me

dtouch3

There’s nothing more inviting than having a bathroom that is sleek and modern but also smart. As technology changes, so do the modern home’s functions. I have a great bathroom, but it’s not a smart bathroom – not yet. I look forward to the day when I have a fully functioning, technology integrated bathroom.

Designers with JOEYFORLIFE have come up with an idea called D-Touch. It is for the smart design bathrooms. A simple, yet functional design, its definitely something I want to introduce you to.

D-Touch works by a simple touch and wheel control, to accurately control the temperature of water in the bathroom as well as keeping the bathroom sanitary. With the touch of a knob, the temperature can be reached safely and quickly – no more standing around in cold water while waiting for it to warm up. And with a Quick Start, you ca program the temperature to what you want when you want it.

The basic temperature setting prevents the water from going scalding hot, so as to prevent any burns from the water. You can set D-Touch to not go over 40 celsius which can be viewed and detected via LED lighting. With the safety system of Germany’s FIUhs, Swiss’s Oblamatik and Joyeforlife’s technical qualifications with D-Box – safety is guaranteed.

The sanitary portion of the D-Touch control allows for programmable every 3 day flushing and rinsing to help prevent bacterial build up. The D-Box’s water channel is filled with cold water to help eliminate bacteria as well. Monitored thermal disinfection can be controlled externally or manually as well. No more half awake freezing cold showers. D-Touch can make your bathroom experience an all around more enjoyable one.

Cool It, and Party!

refridegerated_surface

I’m all about having fun parties, family gatherings and cooking up enough food to feed an army. But there is one thing that can get a little frustrating when you have your veggies, fruits and dips sitting out for lengthy periods of time – they start to look wilted and taste warm. No one enjoys that.

I think Industrial Designer, Brad Rolston from Willington, New Zealand is on the exact same page as I am when he came up with the idea of the Refrigerated Surface. Cold air is created by the embedded copper coils that compress gas – much like how a traditional refrigeration cools. The air blade traps cold air next to the surface allowing for more optimal cooling and less temperature loss.

Rolston hopes the concept can be integrated into kitchen and lounge table surfaces in the future. I think it’s a fabulous idea – I mean, who doesn’t come to a party just for the food? Okay, beers great too, but wilted veg? No thanks!

Dynamic Duo

duo

If you are anything like I am, you have quite a few electronic devices that you use daily and always seem to be having to charge devices throughout the home. Having cables running out of every wall outlet can look cluttered and really mess with the style of the home – making for a messy, unorganized feel.

Designers have been coming up with ideas to charge our devices in new ways such as induction charging – ridding ourselves of the need for so many wires to get tangled up in. Designers at London based design studio, Blond have created a case study with Duo, focusing on both induction charging of multiple devices, and style.

The charging docks of Duo, are made from Corian and are milled to help tolerate wear and tear longer, while having a finish that looks amazing with any home interior. Duo gets its name from its two charging docks – one charging dock for the speaker and the other for your mobile devices. The speaker can easily connect to your mobile device via bluetooth and allows for 360 degree sound. A great, modern design for any home and a great product idea that I hope see come to fruition.

It’s a Date

We all have our ways of remembering important events in our lives. Setting reminders on our mobile devices, writing in journals, and some folks simply rely on Facebook for those. But sometimes, there are those special occasions that have even more meaning, like your first kiss with your partner, first date, e.g., and you may not want to have it posted all over social media, but you want to be reminded of it throughout the day. So, let me take you on a Datelight tour.

Datelight was created by designer, Cody Moore. He first created the light for his sisters as Christmas gifts, but decided he wanted it to be more than just any old lamp. Datelight is more than just a lamp, it works in conjunction with the Datelight app on your mobile device. Just enter in dates that are important to you, which then syncs up with the lamp.

On a normal day, Datelight glows simply on the inner circle. On those days where reminders are set, it will glow on the outer ring as well, and if the day is of even more importance, the lightning will illuminate the wall even more. You have control of those memories. However, if you can’t quite remember what that reminder is – yes, we’ve all been there, you simply rotate the raised section of Datelight counter clockwise, and the event details will be displayed. Great idea, and the design looks to be a really nice addition to any interior design style.
