Oculus Rift: Pre-orders Will Go Up On January 6th

Oculus Rift Pre-Order

The Oculus Rift, one of the most intriguing pieces of new technology is beginning it’s pre-order phase next Wednesday. Read all about it here!

Just like we’ve been saying for a while now, 2016 is going to be the year of virtual reality. Starting on next Wednesday, January 6th, at 11AM ET, the famed Oculus Rift, Facebook’s very own virtual reality headset for PC platforms will begin its pre-order phase. These news first came up on a blog post where the Oculus announced the pre-orders along with a Reddit AMA session with co-founder Palmer Luckey scheduled for Wednesday at 9PM ET. What still remains a secret, though, is just how much the Rift will set you back, but their PR team have confirmed that both pricing and ship date will be made public once preorders open.

We knew that the Rift (one of the most exciting virtual reality platforms on the tech landscape right now) was coming soon, and as early as Q1 of 2016, but this announcement has caught the media by surprise as it’s just after the Holiday season, traditionally the strongest season for sales. And while the Rift will be among us relatively soon, its companion device, the Oculus Touch has been delayed. The idea was to have a control scheme for it similar to what we know from the Wii or PlayStation’s move, but the Oculus Rift will instead come with a traditional Xbox One controller. Baby steps, we tell you.

Like with all new technology, we don’t know how fast or how hard virtual reality will grip us, but the early adapters are meant to be gamers and enthusiast with high-end computers capable of powering these devices. We’re talking about machines that cost at least $1.000 USD, and have the best specs in the market (yes, we know, you could get a better deal because you like to research). As these headsets are basically just screens without any real processing power (the computer or console do the graphic processing), the same will likely be the case for its competitor, HTC’s Vive headset which is coming in April. The cheaper option seems to be Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR which will run on any PS4 (a $350 USD machine), but we will have to see how each one performs before we can claim any of these is the better option for your VR needs.

Since its original announcement and successful Kickstarter campaign, the Oculus team has been growing and improving their technology through a series of prototypes, public appearances, demos and showcases, but with an impending pre-order phase now upon us, now is the time when users can finally get their hands on one while developers can start creating experiences for it. Whether you’re interested in the gaming side of VR or not, exciting stuff is happening and soon you will be able to take part.

Back To The Future: Marty McFly’s Self Drying Jacket Is Real

Marty McFly Jacket

We go forwards and back in time to bring you the best gadgets from all eras before they even come out. So now you get to meet the self-drying jacket (SDJ) Marty McFly wears in the iconic Back To The Future 2. Read all about it here!

Throughout 2015 we saw a lot of nostalgia products, all related somehow to Back to the Future. We saw the limited edition of Pepsi Perfect, Nike’s MAGs inspired by the movie, and even a few hoverboard designs, some of which work better than others. Still, 2015 has just ended and the 30th anniversary of the original film has passed so stuff coming from now onwards didn’t quite make the deadline – but despite this, it’s not like these gadgets are any less awesome. One of such creations is Marty McFly’s self-drying jacket, which thanks to a Kickstarter project by Falyon Wearable Tech is now a very real thing. It’s not quite an exact replica from Marty’s jacket (copyright and all, we guess?) but the company did take the movies as inspiration, and on top of everything, it works just like in the movie.

This jacket is being called the SDJ-01 (for Self-Drying Jacket), and shares a similar design to Marty McFly’s jacket, but updated with more pockets and better materials. Yet, the important bit and the one that truly makes a difference is that it actually works. Falyon have made a jacket such that in combining water-proof materials and high pressure air that circulates in an enclosed space. it can self-dry at an incredible rate. Basically, the jacket uses air amplifiers to make air circulate, and then expells it through exhaust pipes, a process that is only possible thanks to the rechargeable battery it carries.

With the push of a button, literally, the jacket begins to dry. It works great if you need to dry the water from the rain, for example, taking as little as one or two minutes. Sadly, it’s fairly more complicated if the wearer has, say, fell into a pond, but let’s cut them a break and admit this is amazing. This project, which asked for 12.000 dollars on Kickstarter quickly fulfilled its goal, and now interested customers can buy the first few batches of jackets for 150 or more. Be quick, though, they’re selling like hotcakes!

Google Now Adds 9 New Voice Commands

google-now-Voice-commands

Google Now, Android’s personal assistant app, has added 9 new voice commands to make is easier for all users to do everyday tasks. Read all about them in this new feature.

Google Now, Android’s answer to iOS’ Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana, keeps growing and getting better with the addition of a few new voice commands that will help users get the best from their phones. Some of the new commands let the users send texts using only their voice, or calling their contacts, which is pretty sweet if you’re driving. The message can be written using only the user’s voice, which works pretty well at that. On the other hand, another new command allows users to activate music playback with their voice by just saying “Play [Name of the song]”  (which needs to be in Google Play).

There’s more: a new command allows users to turn WiFi on or off, or set an alarm, although you can’t pick the sound or repetitions just yet. All the user has to do is say turn [on / off] [Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Flashlight], or in the case of the alarm, “set alarm for…”. Of course, before inputting any command, it’s necessary to say “Ok Google Now”, just like it always was, so the phone doesn’t do anything weird by accident.

There are a lot of other cool functions this assistant can perform – for example, you could open any particular website by saying “go to [name of web]” or open apps by saying “open [name of app]”, or even do stuff like turn on the lantern, set the screen brightness or volume through commands like “lower brightness”, “silence phone”, and so on. The only problem is you can’t really measure how much louder or quieter it will go, or how much brighter or dim the screen will get – these commands are all amazing and useful, but Google still have to iron out a few kinks..

The time where voice commands seemed like a thing of the future are now long gone, and thanks to Google, Apple and Microsoft it is something we can actually do with our phones. Google in particular keeps revising and improving their services to give users the best possible performance. Google Now so is slowly becoming the perfect tool to finally break free from tactile screens and control everything via voice commands, so your phone can truly work for you without you having to worry about it. Who knows, in a couple of years we might not need secretaries any more.

10 Essential Gaming Accessories 2016

Microsoft Licensed Energizer 2X charging

When gaming and a good set of accessories work together well, they truly take the experience to the next level. These are our favorite accessories you simply cannot miss in 2016.

When it comes to gaming, it doesn’t matter what your platform of choice is – there are always countless accessories meant to improve your game, style, and the way you interact with your consoles or PC. Most of these accessories (let’s face it) are terrible, but a few of them have truly earned a spot as true essentials, and we simply can not imagine gaming without them – so without any further ado, here is our list of the essential gaming accessories for 2016.

Microsoft licensed Energizer 2X Charging System for Xbox One & PS4

We love the fact that our gaming can now be done mostly wirelessly, and it’s great to not have to depend on cables – although this has the downside of all of our favorite gadgets, accessories and gaming controllers having to recharge, a lot. Chances are that if you’re prone to long gaming sessions, you’ll eventually end up playing with your controller plugged in with a really short cable, and that’s what the Energizer 2X Charging System attempts to solve in its PS4 and Xbox One version. Now you can extend your game time without having to worry about battery life. This charger is currently on sale for $19.99, down from its usual price of $29.99 USD.

Steam Controller

Whether you’re a PC purist or like consoles, everyone can agree that some games are just meant to be played with a gamepad and not with mouse and keyborad. The Steam Controller is a godsend for PC gamers who are looking for a compromise, for a gamepad that’s tight enough to play Super Meat Boy or that can slide quickly for smooth FPS play. The Steam Controller was designed by the Valve team themselves, and is not finally ready to be sold and you can buy it for $49.99 USD.

Nintendo Wii Remote Plus

The Nintendo Wii U’s main controller is basically the fusion of a tablet and gamepad, but if you want to play with more than one player, you’re going to need more controllers – and that is why the Wii Remote Plus are a must. These controllers are simple enough that anyone (gamer or not) can pick them up and play, and make the couch multiplayer experience memorable for anyone. These controllers (the same ones you have from your original Wii) can be bought for just under $40 USD.

Xbox One Kinect Sensor with Dance Central Spotlight

The Xbox One’s Kinect is a completely new experience compared to what we saw in the Xbox 360’s generation. The new Kinect allows you to use voice commands your Xbox and TV, make Skype calls in HD, and play games using your body as the controller. This bundle in particular is a fantastic deal for it includes a download code for Dance Central Spotlight, one of the greatest games to play with friends in the same room. It’s currently on sale for $99.99, down from its usual $149.99 USD.

PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset

It’s just amazing how much better the PS4 is when compared to the PS3 when it comes to online functionalities and OS stability. As a true next-gen experience, now it is really worth it to invest in headsets and things to be comfortable while playing, because you will be doing it a lot. The PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset is the best compromise between price and quality, for bringing you fantastic sound quality and party chat capabilities with official support for under $80 USD, as it’s currently on sale. Don’t miss out on it!

Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter

As opposed to PlayStation, the Xbox already has a long and rich story of great online functionality that brought us fantastic experiences such as Halo, Gears of War or Call of Duty – so it’s likely you already have a good set of headphones from the previous generation. The Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter ensures you can do exactly that, and can do things like easily adjust chat audio without ever taking your hands off the controller. You can buy yours for just under $25 USD.

Logitech G502 Proteus Core Gaming Mouse

If you’re serious about gaming, you know how hard it is to find a mouse that performs just right. The Logitech G502 Proteus Core Gaming Mouse is a one device fits all solution, as you can customize its weight, surface and balance to get the best performance no matter what. It comes with 11 programmable buttons you can set up to execute any combination of buttons, or change DPI on the fly for precission sniping. Even better, it’s compatible with both Windows and Mac, so it’s the perfect companion for all your competitive gaming needs.

HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset

Speaking about competitive gaming on PC, the HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset is absolutely our favorite device for those intense sessions of Counter Strike: Global Offensive or League of Legends. They’re not only incredibly comfortable but also sound great and look just beautiful while not even being that expensive. You can purchase yours right now for $67.99, as they are on sale, and over 20% down from the usual $99.99 USD price.

Nyko Intercooler for Xbox One And PS4

Most of us had some bad experiences past generation with the Xbox 360 overheating and shutting off – forever. The new generation doesn’t seem to have such a glaring problem so far, but if you live in an area with hot weather and would rather be safe, the Nyko Intercooler for Xbox One And PS4 will give you the peace of mind you’re looking for. This is a USB powered cooler that reduces ambient air temperature by pushing hot air away from the console, and fits the console aesthetic on top. You can purchase one for about $21 USD.

Nintendo Pro Controller Black – Nintendo Wii U

The Nintendo Pro Controller is a must-have for Wii U owners who are more into action games than the more laid back or couch-play experiences of many titles such as Nintendoland or Pikmin. If you need precise controls to play something more action oriented such as Bayonetta, Super Mario 3D World or Super Smash Bros, this is the controller you’re looking for at just under $49.99 USD. You won’t believe the wicked weaves you will be able to pull off with it.

New Moto X 2016 Details Leaked

Moto X 2016 Leak 1

Motorola like to surprise users and the general public with leaks and details about upcoming devices, and today we have the new Moto X, which is coming in 2016. Read all the details in this feature!

2015 was the year of leaks, especially allegedly “accidental” leaks, something Motorola has been doing with a few of their devices such as the second generation Moto 360, not that long ago. Still, this is a really interesting situation as the Moto X is still a fantastic device and not all that old that it would deserve a new version this soon in its life cycle. Despite this, the rumor mill of the internet doesn’t care for reasons, and here we have a few new pictures of the new Moto X 2016 via our friends at PhoneDog.

It all started with a couple of images that appeared at the Chinese website cnBeta in which, according to the author, we can see a prototype of the new generation of Moto X smartphones. In it we can appreciate a metallic frame with a rear speaker and volume keys, with buttons on the right side (when seeing it from the front). Also, we see empty space where users will be able to put a round shaped camera, similar to what the Lumia 950 XL did, but keeping the traditional Motorola design that sort of looks like a flat tire. The theory says this is where the flash will go.

The original post claims this is not a finished design, but one of the many prototypes Motorola are considering. They also are talking about a Snapdragon 820 processor to power up everything, although there is no real and conclusive proof of this as of now. Still, the prospect is exciting.

Still, the defining feature of this model seems to be the rear speaker, which might indicate the end of the traditional front speakers seen in the Moto X series. As of now, these are nothing but rumors, and knowing that it is one of many prototypes, we need to consider this might be only a proof of concept or an option you can pick with Moto Maker. Whatever the case may be, we need to wait to get any kind of confirmation.

5 Fantastic Xbox One Limited Edition Controllers

Xbox One Limited Edition Controllers Call of Duty

Did you get an Xbox One for Christmas? Awesome! Now is the time to start collecting these limited editions controllers, then. Here are some of our favorites!

The Xbox One has been around for a couple years, and even though we have loved the console from the get-go, it’s controller wasn’t a major smash-success like with the Xbox 360, who was beloved even by PC gamers. Microsoft has been improving their designs and have now created the best gamepad in gaming history, but along the way produced a few really cool and rare limited edition controllers, which we want to show you in this story. Here are our favorite Xbox One Limited Edition Controllers, and where to purchase them!

Xbox One Limited Edition Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Controller

This is a very special edition joystick, inspired by Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the first Call of Duty to appear on the Xbox One. This $79.99 USD controller features a custom design inspired by the Sentinel Task Force from the game, and was made in limited quantities so it quickly became a hot item. We particularly like the grey background with gold details, as it is a gamma we don’t usually see in gaming.

Xbox One Special Edition Midnight Forces Wireless Controller

The Xbox One Special Edition Midnight Forces Wireless Controller is a beautiful gamepad with a special camouflage pattern and military look. It’s not that different from other models (despite the fact that it includes redesigned thumbsticks and D-pad enhancements) except for the fact that it is particularly pretty, but the fact that it used to be a Best Buy exclusive and was made in limited quantities turnet it into a collector’s item. You can buy one for $73.95 USD.

Xbox One Special Edition Covert Forces Wireless Controller

The Xbox One Special Edition Covert Forces Wireless Controller is yet another Xbox One controller with a modern camouflage pattern. this time in black and grey for a more grim, cool look. It was one of the first controllers to feature the much requested 3.5mm stereo headset jack so users could plug in their compatible headsets.

Xbox One Limited Edition Halo 5: Guardians Master Chief Controller

This beauty over here is the Xbox One Limited Edition Halo 5: Guardians Master Chief Controller, inspired by the signature colors of Master Chief’s armor with laser etched design. The controller is absolutely beautiful and a must-have for any fan of the series, for not only features all the latest implementations in Xbox One gamepads (yes, the 3.5 stereo jack included), but also a Halo 5 Bonus Req pack download code featuring a Dauntless visor, so you get perks both inside and outside the game. This Xbox One gamepad costs $72.99 USD, and is also quickly becoming a collector’s item.

Xbox One Limited Edition Halo 5: Guardians Controller

The Xbox One Limited Edition Halo 5: Guardians Controller is yet another controller with a Halo 5: Guardians theme, but one that leaves Master Chief’s iconic look on the sides to feature instead the colors of newcomer Spartan Locke and his squad. This gamepad comes with Halo combat design and insignias in metallic blue accents, and also includes the much touted Halo 5 Bonus Req pack download code with the Resolute visor. You can purchase this gamepad for $62.49 USD.

The Minecraft Diamond Steve Action Figure features a 2.75″ articulated Steve in Diamond armor, the most durable set from the game, which comes with a removable helmet, diamond block and a sword that fits in his hand. It is on sale right now, and you can get it for $7.19 (40% off).

Funko POP! Marvel: Dancing Groot Bobble Action Figure

The Funko POP! Marvel: Dancing Groot Bobble Action Figure is the most sought-out Bobblehead figurine right now, and we can’t blame the collectors for this. Groot already stole everyone’s heart in Guardians of the Galaxy and this figurine cranks the cuteness to 11. While you can potentially get the entire cast from the movie for less than $30 USD, we wanted to point this figurine out at $6.99 USD – at this price, it’s a crime to not get it.

10 Incredibly Fun Spy Gadgets

Spy Gadgets Pen Camera

What seemed futurism in James Bond’s early movies can now be purchased in many stores. This is a selection of gadgets that will make you feel like a real spy.

James Bond and other spies have fascinated the world for generations now: we all want to be them and uncover secret plots while saving the world in the process. That’s not something likely to happen in the short term, though (most of us don’t even work for a government) but we still can get to have some fun with some special gadgets. Here’s a compilation of some incredibly fun devices you can purchase right now and use around the office, at school or at home – but make sure they’re used for a good cause!

Pen With Hidden Mini Camera For DV DVR

This is a Pen with a hidden mini Camera Recorder with DV DVR capabilities. What this device does is incredibly cool for it features both photographic and video capabilities. The photos are high resolution color pictures of 3840×2880 resolution on JPG format, while video instead is 960×720 resolution at 30 FPS, AVI format. This is not the greatest quality in the world (although it’s very decent), but the whole point of it is that the camera is unnoticeable to the unaware, and you can record up to 2 GB of information in its internal memory with micro SD Slot expandable capabilities to up to 8gb. It’s on sale for just above $10 USD.

Spy X Micro Voice Disguise

The Spy X Micro Voice Disguise is a fun, cheap gadget for your secret spy missions. It allows you to record messages for your team to find, which you can in turn modify and twist so no one will know their source, or who even said that. It’s best used with more than one device so the conversation can go back and forth, but even just one should sate your creepy messages needs. It costs $11.99, and requires a single battery to function.

SPY NET: Stealth Video Glasses

This is another clever way to record information in the most discrete way. The SPY NET: Stealth Video Glasses feature a hidden camera that can record up to 20 minutes of video and over 2,000 pictures, which you can retrieve plugging them to any computer with a USB connection, and even back up information in the cloud at SpyNetHQ, The idea is to allow the user to record video or take pictures stealthily, so if you’re outside (or maybe inside a building in Vegas, people do that), this gadget will solve all your recording issues.

SpyX / Micro Eyes & Ears

Here’s the thing with the SpyX / Micro Eyes & Ears: although they advertise themselves as toys, they actually work, and they work really well. This set includes two gadgets that will allow you to see in the dark and listen in on far away sounds with the Micro Super Ear and Micro Ear Light, allowing you to be stealthy and comfortable while wearing them.

Clock Diversion With Hidden Safe

What to do with the information once you’ve already retrieved it? The Clock Diversion With Hidden Safe is an inconspicuous clock that would fit pretty much anywhere without raising suspicion, but can hide all kinds of things inside it such as USB flashdrives, Micro SD cards, or even valuables. You can get yours for under $30 USD.

Sharpie Type Invisible Ink UV Marking Pen Marker

The Sharpie Type Invisible Ink UV Marking Pen Marker is, as its name implies, an invisible ink pen. The reason we recommend this one over any other pens of its kind is because the way it works doesn’t require burning paper or anything weird like that to work. This pen uses UV ink, invisible to the naked eye, which turns blue under ultraviolet light. It’s perfect if you need to label your cell phone, laptop, MP3 player, or even your other spy gadgets when you don’t know who to trust.

The Spy Bolt Covert Hidden Contents Secret Container

Here’s another cool way to hide information. These bolts are regular-sized bolts that are completely hollow so you can store things inside. The Spy Bolt is inspired by a similar device used way back in the Cold War by the KGB, and features an O-ring weather-proof storage for small valuables or communications. What’s more, despite its normal size, the capacity of each container is incredibly huge at 4mL.

NuoYa001 Invisible Spy Earphone

The NuoYa001 Invisible Spy Earphone is, basically, a bug that allows you listen to conversations you shouldn’t be listening to. This mini wireless inductive receiver transforms audio signal through electromagnetic induction while remaining well hidden and stelathy, and is the perfect means of communication with someone else. The best part, though, is how easily and well it conceals and how it only requires a small battery to work while costing only $23.09 USD.

Toughsty HD Hidden Camera In Sports Hat

The Toughsty is yet another hidden camera, this time inside a sports cap featuring the New York Yankees logo, because being a fan of them is as inconspicuous as it gets. The camera can record up to 8GB of full 1920x1080P HD quality video with a camera that is impossible to spot unless you already know it’s there. It even features a motion activated sensor so you can even leave it somewhere and come pick it up afterwards. It costs $57.99, which is a great price for such a high-quality recording device.

CDPro Professional Hidden Camera Detector

Being a good spy is not only about getting the information we need, but also predicting whether our enemies or opponents have anticipated our movements. The CDPro Professional Hidden Camera Detector is not a toy or funny little gadget, but a real, working device that will help you do exactly what its name implies: to detect whether or not you’re under surveillance. It can detect both PAL and NTSC, the two most common video standards and scanning capabilities of 1.2 GHz and bands for up to 300 feet. Scanning is performed automatically once the device is on,  even automatic once you turn on the detector. And remember, it’s not paranoia if it turns out you were right all along!
