The Microsoft team created the Xbox One controller with improved features. With support from Kaleidoscope’s Onsite Services, the team redesigned the thumbstick to facilitate more performance with less motion.
The Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Director of Design, the Senior Industrial Designer develops creative and applicable design solutions primarily for Kaleidoscope Innovation’s healthcare and medical device clients. Provide a 360-degree ID view of primarily healthcare & medical projects, as well as non-medical projects. This includes user needs advocate, human factors expertise/methodologies for usability testing (in partnership with Insights & HFE team), regulatory requirements, manufacturing and brand assets/aesthetics, all culminating into a comprehensive functional and manufacturable solution.
Responsibilities
- Ability to discern critical design factors important to assigned projects and to be able to logically defend design tradeoffs.
- Ability to identify the most technically challenging problems and create strategic and tactical plans to address them.
- Work collaboratively and seeks out other disciplines to optimize design solutions while being seen as an ID advocate.
- Partner with the Director of Design to lead, mentor and review the work of junior designers.
- Partner with the Insights & HFE team, participating in research and brainstorming activities.
- Take the lead to present design concepts and prototypes to internal and client stakeholders for review.
- Serve as an ambassador for the company representing and promoting capabilities and offerings.
- Partner with the Director of Design and Project Management team to create project strategies and proposals.
- Ability to act as the main client interface/SME on assigned projects, as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design or related field is required.
- 6-10 years of professional experience in innovation/product development. Medical devices experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with FDA content/regulations necessary for medical device premarket submission (IEC 60601), including an understanding of how to apply the principles within the ISO 14971 risk management for medical devices is a plus.
- Demonstrated user-centered design principles expertise.
- Well versed in utilizing principles of design for manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of 2D and 3D digital tools including Solidworks 3D modeling to ensure design intent integration and a smooth hand-off to/from the technical engineering group.
- Consistent ability to provide and inspire in other team members fresh, clever and unexpected solutions.
- Strong aesthetic sensitivity with discernment of good/bad visual design.

Fallout is an amazing game that has a huge fan following. Fallout 4 is still one of my favorite games to date just because of the huge open world, a massive amount of customizations and great story line. This custom Fallout inspired PS4 controller looks rugged and just like it has been subjected to radiations. It has a dark shade of brown along with crack patterns and silver buttons to enhance the ruggedness. The right handle has the radiation symbol while the left handle houses ‘111’ which symbolizes the Vault number.

The Last of Us is one of the best survival games of all time and is still one of the bestselling games out there. The top-notch graphics combined with the thrilling story and ensemble voice and motion acting made it a must-buy. The custom Last of Us inspired PS4 controller looks slightly similar to the Fallout inspired controller, but the paint job is different with a combination of black, gray, red and orange. The buttons are silver and there are added details around the buttons as well as the analog sticks.
Deadpool Custom Video Game Controller
When you encounter the word ‘Deadpool’, the first color that comes to your mind is red. But this Deadpool inspired game controller comes in white with a lot of blood splatter and a picture of Deadpool himself. The movie was a huge success, thanks to an amazing performance by Ryan Reynolds. But did you know that the Deadpool game was also hugely popular? Halo Inspired Hand-Painted Custom Controller
This is my second favorite controller on this list of the best video game inspired game controllers. I’ve never been a huge fan of Halo, mainly because there are not many Halo games on PC. I’d really like it if Microsoft released one for PC with next-gen graphics. This custom Halo inspired controller has a dark blue paint job which looks stunning. The thing that stands out the most is the electric blue detailing which is done on the top. There is also a Halo character on the left handle that adds to the looks.
Borderlands Hand-Painted Custom Controller
This has to be the best-looking video game inspired game controller on this list. It definitely is my favorite. I’m a huge fan of flashy colors and this might not appeal to everyone. The base color of this Borderlands inspired controller is a bright orange. The buttons are yellow and the analog sticks are black and the D-pad is a dark red. The right handle houses the Borderlands symbol and the left handle has the character from Borderlands. The paint job looks visually enticing. If you’re a fan of flashy colors as well as Borderlands, don’t think twice before getting this one.
Mad Max Controller
The last one on this list of the best video game inspired game controllers is a Mad Max inspired controller. The movie that won a lot of accolades, both in terms of acting as well as for the technical superiority. In my opinion, the Mad Max video game was one of my favorite open world games of 2015. The massive open world, customizable rides, superior combat system and the overall gameplay was superb. Things will get a little repetitive as you progress, but it is a winner nevertheless. The Mad Max inspired controller is simple and is metallic silver in color. The buttons are all silver except the D-pad which is black. There are tire treads on the left handle and a skull mark on the right handle. The rear side has a dialogue which says, ‘What a lovely day’!
This Charger Can Replenish Your Xbox One Controller Battery In 1 Minute
A company by the name of PDP was present at CES 2016 where they showed a charger that could recharge an Xbox One controller battery in one minute. Read all the details in this feature!
Among all the new trinkets, technology and gadgets that appeared and were discussed at CES 2016, there was a quite interesting piece of hardware for Xbox One owners: a super charger for Xbox One wireless controllers that could completely replenish its battery in just under 60 seconds. This new technology for batteries already has a first working prototype, and according to what PDP said to popular gaming website Polygon, it works perfectly. Let’s admit it, too: the fact that there’s a product out there that can charge a battery in one minute and provide us with between eight and ten hours of continuous gameplay is nothing short of amazing.
The man in charge of the creation of such a device, Christopher Dingle, explained that this technology is unlike any other found on other fast-charging gadgets. PDP have straight up created a new type of power pack that doesn’t just work like regular lithium-based batteries, and basically doesn’t produce a chemical reaction to generate energy, but the energy is produced through physical reactions instead in a completely different process. This means that the useful life of the product will last way longer than a regular lithium battery and provide you with many years of gaming in comparison. Sure, getting a charger dock is an investment, but if you take good care of your systems, a gadget like this could even end up saving you money.
As of now, there is no confirmation nor release date for this product, or even the certainty that it will ever come out, but the company behind it is hopeful that they will be able to start a pre-order phase by the end of 2016 and release sometime in 2017. PDP also weren’t able to discuss a potential price for this product, but they think it’s gonna be around $99 USD – hopefully they don’t pull an Oculus and release for a much higher price! More interestingly, though, they confirmed they were also working on a PlayStation 4 version, which could be released simultaneously if they get a concept working in time.

The Xbox One Special Edition Covert Forces Wireless Controller is yet another Xbox One controller with a modern camouflage pattern. this time in black and grey for a more grim, cool look. It was one of the first controllers to feature the much requested 3.5mm stereo headset jack so users could plug in their compatible headsets.
