Forever Lock Is the Unpickable Bike Lock

Most locks that are designed to secure your bike in public are usually U-shaped and have funny-shaped keys, but if you feel that is not secure enough, try the Forever Lock. It has a great design for added security.

It hides the keyhole out of reach, so that it can’t be accessed with traditional lock picking tools. You have to insert the specially-designed key inside of the mechanism, through a combination of actions. It’s sort of like a puzzle game, but easier to solve. The video explains it better:

You can’t officially buy one in the U.S. market yet, but according to the guy in the video, he is selling them for $140 each if you contact him. Seem expensive? Sure, but if you’ve got an expensive bike, this is a super secure lock, and short of a thief using a blowtorch to cut it, it’s not getting opened by crooks.

Green Lantern channeled for bicycle security

If you equate cosmic superhero power with the right-now technology of Bluetooth, designer Hsu Wei-Che has the bike lock for you. Made specifically for short-term parking, this lock attaches to the spokes of your bicycle when you’re going to head into a convenience store (or whatever other short trip you’re on) and notifies you of movement via a fabulous green sensor ring. The power is yours!

Hsu Wei-Che wants to alleviate you of some of the stress that comes with worrying about your bike by making the process of locking it up not just easy, but entertaining as well. This product also works as a lamp when you’re not just using it for security, and the sensor ring you’ll be using will make you the belle of the ball at your local 7-11.

When last saw the Social Bicycles (SoBi), there wasn't a heck of a lot to report on. The whole thing was little more than a concept, a Kickstarter page and an early prototype. Flash forward just under a year later, and it's beginning to look a lot like a real, consumer-facing product. The New York startup showed off its bike and a couple of apps today at TechCrunch Disrupt. The concept here is not too dissimilar from a Zipcar -- you locate a bike using the Android or iOS app, find it on the street, enter your PIN, pull out the lock and you're good to go.

If you're feeling particularly enterprising, you can can pick up bikes to rent up for $1,300 a piece, if you order less than 50 or $1,100 per, if you go for more. The wireless data, meanwhile, runs $15 per bike, per month. The company has both consumer and business-facing apps. On the administrative side of things, you can track the bikes and set boundaries for return. Incentive programs are set up, giving customers credits, should they do something like get a bike from outside a designated hub and return it to one.
