This Smartphone Packs a Hidden Earbud

It’s time to get serious about mobile phone radiation – and what better way to do it than with a lovely design concept to completely do away with it? This is the “ER”, a smartphone that works with a Bluetooth-connected detachable microphone/earbud combo. When it’s docked, the earbud charges up. When it’s out, it’s instantly connected wirelessly to your phone.

This device was made not just for those people who love to keep their phone in their pocket when they talk for fashion, but for those worried about the radiation emitted by phones on a regular basis. For them, there’s this surprisingly reasonable docked earbud-in-phone concept – have at it!

Clothing Iron with Retractable Heat

When you think of a clothing iron – the kind you use to get clothing both dry and flat – you think of heat, and you think of how much it hurts to get burned. With the Up&Down Safety Iron, there’s no more to worry about – when you’re not holding on tight, the iron retracts – how simple!

This iron’s idea is so simple, it’s one of those things you think must certainly have been thought of before. As it stands, it looks like this is simply a concept that’s just not made it to reality yet due to the cost. Guess we’ll just have to keep watching out for cords instead!

The simplest alarm as a knob

What we’re looking at right here is a device that essentially amounts to a countdown sound-blaster with a user-interface that’s just about as easy to use as humanly possible. That’s what it’s all about, and it’s the details that make it just fantastic enough to be the most awesome little twist-and-snooze gadget on the block.

What you’ve got here is the “Timer Switch” – simply titled – designed by Myeong Ho Kang, made to be both lovely in its simple aesthetic state and simple to use. You twist the rim and watch the numbers appear along the area between the edge and the center button. When you see the amount of time you desire, you press the button.

Once the timer goes off, a sound and a light goes on, and you’ve only to tap the button back to its off-state to reset.

Two sides of one solar-powered light clip

For the generations surrounding mine, there’s always going to be something magical about a digital product that requires only solar power to work. Because of this – and because the product we’re about to look at here is simply wonderful – it simply must be made. Or we hope it’ll be made: it’s the Clip•Holding the sunshine by a group working at the Shannxi University of Science and Technology, and it’s cute!

This conceptual design takes its physical form from the simple chip clip – or that’s what you might know it as. The larger area on one side of the clip is a solar panel that collects power throughout the day. On the other side you’ve got a touch switch and an LED light panel that shines rather brightly when you’ve made a tap. The energy is transferred from one side of the device to the other through some simple contacts that roll around the center clip contact.

Vinyl album amplifier goes cone-shaped with NFC

It’s time to get literal in the music universe with a vinyl speaker that’s not just made out of vinyl, it’s got the look and feel of a vinyl record album as well. This conceptual design would have a 12-inch platter up on the wall with NFC technology making the connection between the amplifier inside and the smartphone in your pocket. With a simple pull of the disk you’ll also have amplified sound with a cone-shaped bit of physics on your side.

Having seen some rather similar designs in our day as far as physical amplification of sound goes, it wouldn’t be out of the question to have this device entirely mega-popular out in the streets. We’d love a few for the office, that’s for sure!

A milk box by any other name

If you take a milk carton and flip the top upside-down, what do you have? You have a design made by none other than designer Sheau Shiuan Lin. When we first had a peek at this design, it seemed awfully similar to a design we saw just days previous (for some of us) at our children’s daycare center – a milk carton, but with a flat top rather than a peak. Instead, we’ve got something just a tiny bit different.

Have a peek at the fold-up and straw design posted here that goes by the name “StrawIN” and let us know what you think. Is it so close to the original milk carton we use everyday that it cannot be considered new? Or is it simply brilliant?

Two-sided keyboard gets touchpad underside

Those of you looking for a “Smart” trackpad for your desktop computer – that being a touchpad working with gestures for the future of gesture-friendly computing – your great day has come. Here we’ve got a conceptual design for a device called “Inside Out” – one giant swoop with a keyboard on one side and a massive touchpad on the other. Simple and enticingly effective – made with OS X and Window 8 in mind, we’re sure.

One tube of work for anywhere

If you’re in need of a container that brings physical writing instruments, note paper, and a fully functional nighttime light, you’ll want to take a peek at ODO. The design team at “Generally and Especially” have for you a conglomeration of tools contained in a simple tube made of high-quality materials. Not just physical writing comes to you in this high-tech-minded futuristic present of ours, but a solar-powered light, too!

The letters ODO stand for Outdoor Office, the designers intent being this designs ability to “provide unlimited workforce in anywhere and anytime, so we can brainstorm, rejuvenate and share our ideas more effectively and efficiently.” Sounds fun!

Weeble broom wobbles but it wont fall down

There’s a design for a broom and dustpan out there that brings the two together in a way that not only keeps them one unit, but keeps them sitting upright as well. While a standard broom and dustpan require you to stand them up against a wall or they’ll go horizontal, the “Roly-poly Cleaner” by designer Salih Berk Ilhan [UPDATED!] is able to sit up without assistance.

What you’re looking at here is the same composure of plastics you’d normally be working with using a broom and dustpan. The difference here is the click-in nature of the two, together sitting upright and ready for your usage. When it comes time to sweep, just pull them apart.

UPDATE: designer is Salih Berk Ilhan, not “HYELIN Lee” as previously noted. As sometimes happens in our line of work, designers works are not properly attributed – in this case, it is certainly Salih Berk Ilhan who created the Roly-poly Cleaner (aka the Roly-Poly Dustpan and Broom, aka the RoPo!) We hope that those of you who have quoted Yanko at a source will make a change reflecting this update. Thank you!

Power strip makes all directions possible

The power strip design you’re about to witness allows you to plug in from any direction and at any point along the length of it. Designer Hung Wang created a design here that allows Live / Neutral-wire slots to sit next to one another no matter which of the four directions you plug in from. This power strip goes by the name of “CROSS” and without a doubt aims to keep all manner of electronics in energy in as versatile a manner as possible.
