Shofar, So Good!

The Shofar humidifier takes ancient inspiration from the musical ram’s horn of the same name. Not only for looks, its interesting form is also quite effective at using gravity to ensure that water is constantly moved to the center before being transformed to vapor. The design is also equipped with a remote control that conveniently nests in the mouth of the unit. When you’re ready to use it, simply remove the control and adjust the settings from anywhere in the room. Masculine yet minimalistic, it’s easy to imagine this adorning the mantle in your modern man cave!

A Humidifier That’s Not Horrendous!

If you’re aiming for aesthetic perfection in your home, there are a number of innately ugly appliances you’ll definitely avoid having on display. A humidifier is near the top of that list. There isn’t one out there that isn’t a total vibe killer! Until now. Meet, MONG MONT.

It’s more art than appliance and that’s exactly the way it should be. This beautiful, monochromatic mountain scape can be installed on nearly any wall to add aesthetic value to your living area. With its circuitry and ventilation seamlessly hidden within the wall, it does double duty as a humidification system to do everything from regulate temperature to reduce airborne allergens.

The humidifier with two identities

Most humidifiers are only used in one half of the year, when it’s dry. They sit and gather dust during the remaining six months. Huira Koo had a brainwave and asked herself, what if the humidifier, when not in use, could integrate into the home decor and become a lifestyle product, therefore having two seasonal avatars. The Mool was created keeping that very insight in mind, serving as a humidifier when needed, and separating into a vase and decorative bowl at other times.

The Mool comprises a glass base, into which you fill the water, and a terracotta ‘umbrella’ that submerges into the water. An intermediary ring made out of cork tightly holds both base and umbrella in place. Mool humidifies the air naturally, through terracotta’s innate properties of absorbing water and releasing vapor. It’s said to have an incredibly long shelf life, resist infection/corrosion, and actually purify the water too, acting as a filter. The Mool doesn’t use a single bit of electricity, and can easily run for years before the terracotta needs replacing. Plus, it makes such a nice vase/bowl when not in use!

Design in Disguise

If you close your eyes and picture a humidifier, there’s a 99% chance you’re envisioning something totally cringeworthy! It’s also why this cleverly designed collection of humidifiers won a Red Dot Design Concept Award… because they look NOTHING like a humidifier! In fact, they’re designed with a disguise. Each looks like another, less aesthetically invasive product to make things feel more cozy.

The pot, the biggest in the series, is designed for the living room or more spacious areas. Instead of emitting steam directly from a single, small, hole-type outlet, moisture is released along the circular rim of the top disk. This spreads the steam out over a wider area. In addition, the user interface is subtly micro-perforated on the top disk. — The kettle, a medium-sized option, has a capacity that makes it highly portable. With its convenient handle and purposefully placed spout, it’s ideal for bedrooms and other mid-size rooms. — The cup, the smallest of the series, looks like an average mug on your desk and is perfectly sized to humidify your workspace and other micro areas. Its dock station, the smallest of the 3, is compact enough to leave on your desk top or keep by your bedside.

Enhancing Respiratory Health

A hands-on humidifier

The interaction of squeezing toothpaste, shampoo, or ketchup, is quite a tactile one… but that experience always stuck to the FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) market. The Pillowy Humidifier does something unusual by trying to put that experience into a home appliance. Imagine squeezing some humidity out of a gadget. The more pressure you apply, the more humidity is released by the machine. It’s quite an unusual thing to have such a tactile experience in a touchscreen dominated world. I imagine it would make for an incredibly enriching user experience. After all, phones are now trying to do something similar with 3D touch too, right?

Pretty Little Desktop Water-volcano

Remember how I used to talk about the demise of Form Follows Function? The Watercone seems to fit well into that theory. The outward shape of the Watercone has an aesthetic that transcends functionality. When not in use, it is designed to be decorative. You probably are wondering what the Watercone is! The Watercone is a humidifier designed to look nothing like one. Its conical shape houses all the electronics and water storage needed. The design is small enough to be a part of your desk, and sturdy enough to even be carried around without worries of the water spilling; which means you can use the Watercone in your car too! It comes in two absolutely beautiful metal/gloss-plastic color combos for you to choose from. One for the Apple lover, and another for the HP lover! (If you know what I mean!)
