The Push Pull Plug

A clever use of physics is seen in the Stable Plug. It basically has a push-pull feature that allows you to easily slide in and out a plug from the socket. A ‘stable’ design that eliminates problems associated with wall-sockets and plugs!

The Stable Plug is a 2013 IDEA Awards winner.

Always Fit The Plug

There are two things noteworthy regarding the Flex Tab, one is that it features a gliding rail kinda system that allows you to move the plug sockets on the tab. And the other is that it accommodates any configuration of plugs together. Shape and size of the plug is really not an issue! Very clever!

Solar Window Socket: Stick up and Plug in

If only harnessing the power of the Sun could be as simple as sticking an outlet with a solar panel onto your window. That’s the idea designers Kyuho Song and Boa Oh are pushing for with their Window Socket concept design.

Window Socket

It’s basically an outlet you fasten onto any clear window so that it charges up by absorbing the sun’s solar energy. When you want to power something up, simply stick the plug into the socket and that’s it.

window socket 2

The design description indicates that the solar energy will be transformed into electrical energy by a converter, although I can’t really see where they could have crammed that circuitry inside of the small puck-like device.

Window Socket1

I think the Window Socket is a grand idea, and it would be awesome if they actually managed to turn it into a reality.

Plug It On The Window

The Window Socket offers a neat way to harness solar energy and use it as a plug socket. So far we have seen solutions that act as a solar battery backup, but none as a direct plug-in. Simple in design, the plug just attaches to any window and does its job intuitively.

3.5mm with a Twist

The 90degree Adapter focuses on the ergonomics of one tiny, often overlooked, component: the headphone plug. It’s just plain annoying to have that rigid plastic jutting out from your phone, tablet, computer or other devices. The 90degree gets it out of the way by twisting near the intersection of the metal and plastic. The plug becomes flush with your device, making it easier to hold or rest in a case.

Intel sort of denies rumors about future CPUs being non-upgradeable

Intel denies nextgen CPUs will be nonupgradeable, says it'll offer LGA socket parts for 'forseeable future'

If you kept up with last week's rumors about Intel's 14nm Broadwell chip being hardwired and non-upgradeable, then you'll know they were anything but precise. They never quite implied that all of Intel's next-gen desktop processors would be soldered to the motherboard, even if Broadwell (or some of its variants) did happen to go that way. So perhaps it's fitting that Intel's rebuttal -- reassuring as it is -- maintains the theme of imprecision. In a statement to Maximum PC, the chipmaker said it...

"...remains committed to the growing desktop enthusiast and channel markets, and will continue to offer socketed parts in the LGA package for the forseeable future..."

Now, that's a solid promise, especially considering how careful silicon companies tend to be about revealing any long-term plans. But it's also worth bearing in mind that the wording leaves some wriggle room for Intel -- not least in terms of selling LGA socket chips only as expensive niche options (i.e. the true definition of "enthusiast") rather than as mainstream products, should it wish to do so. Indeed, the prospect of Core i3 owners chaining themselves to HDD cages in defense of their upgrade rights may yet come to pass, and no one would want to be on the wrong side of that.

Don’t Mess With the Zaryadkus

You can expect nothing but the best functional design solutions from the house of Art Lebedev Studio. The Zaryadkus is a fine example of how trendy USB sockets should be. A hinged plate allows you to place the iPhone (or any other USB enabled device) for charging in close proximity to the socket. Crafted from white plastic, but with options to customize it according to your room color scheme, the Zaryadku is the way USB sockets are meant to be!

Until we nail down wireless charging technology, we can expect to continue dealing with mangy cords. Grrrr. Until then, the ES 01 socket extension aims to clean things up a little by concealing the outlets, plugs and cables under a sleek and discreet lid. The next best thing to hiding cords in the wall, the design makes it easy to organize your work area and in a number of different colors you’ll find one to perfectly suit your aesthetic taste.

Fluid Multi-tap

So far we have seen some really radical designs for power strips and adding to the list is this fluid Any Shape-shifting Socket. Constructed out of a soft plastic material, it molds into any shape you like. The jack takes in most kinds of plugs thus making it easy for you to hook up appliances and gadgets. The fluidity in design is the key element here. We have to let go of the restrictive rectangular strip that we are so used to and accept shape-shifting sculptural designs as a part of our interior setup.
