Taco Phone Stand
I’m pretty sure this isn’t exactly what you would think of when you say “taco stand”. But it is, technically. Actually it’s a Tako Phone Stand, a “tako” being a Japanese takosen. A takosen is an octopus dumpling with eggs, sauce, mayo, and fish flakes in between a pair of crackers. Kinda like a Japanese version of a taco, more or less (it’s an Osaka specialty).
You can use this stand for your phone in both portrait and landscape mode. Just prop your phone up on the egg and let the tako hold it upright for you. It looks real. Really weird that is. Taco Tuesdays will never be the same.

Aroma Fork Adds Scents to Your Food
Imagine if you could not only taste your food but smell it too. Wait, I’m being told that this already happens? Well then what if you could taste your food but smell something from your fork that wasn’t your food at all? Well that can happen with the Aroma Fork. This odd contraption adds an absorbent scent pad to an ordinary fork.
Like a bizarre parlor trick, the fork tricks your nose into smelling one thing even while you’re eating another. Maybe they can make everything taste like french fries or bacon please?! Apparently those aren’t options. But there are 24 different oils that you can drop onto the scent pad to enhance your food’s flavor.
The flavors come in a few different categories:
3 “Beans” Aromas – Chocolate, Coffee, Vanilla
4 “Fruits” Aromas – Banana, Lychee, Passion Fruit, Strawberry
3 “Herbs” Aromas – Basil, Cilantro, Mint
4 “Spices” Aromas – Cinnamon, Ginger, Jalapeno, Wasabi
4 “Umami” Aromas – Butter, Olive Oil, Smoke and Truffle

Supposedly while you taste a complimentary food the scent from the Aroma Fork wafts up into your nose and hits the back of your throat at the same time, tricking your brain into tasting a combination of the two. A flavor innovation or just a fun trick for your less than sober friends?

Ice Pop Phone Case
No that’s not a real ice pop and ice cream pop on top of that iPhone- it’s a case. The Ice Pop Case (JP) looks like a realistic frozen treat place on the back of a phone. Complete with slightly unwieldy popsicle sticks hanging off the edge of your phone. They are as impressively real looking as they are baffling to explain why they even exist.
Appropriately enough there’s a bite taken out of each one right where the phone’s camera lens is. Definitely one of the odder cases we’ve come across (and we’ve definitely seen our share of bizarre ones). Handiheadset: It’s a Giant Hand
Need a hand answering that phone? The Handiheadset is an oversized hand that works as a headset for your phone. Do I need to state the obvious? It’s freakin’ ridiculous. Which is probably why the Kickstarter is juuuuuuust short of it’s goal for funding and production. It just needs to make up the remaining 98% and this thing goes live. Seriously who would use this?
Hang loose my friends. It has a wire to plug into the jack of any phone and the underside of this giant hand is open with a handle to hold on to. So to answer the question, no this giant hand handset is not hands-free. And it’s just $33 to get in on this deal. There must be more Carrot Top fans somewhere out there looking for a handset, right? 10 Foot Long Plush Seaweed Toy and Break-Apart Tuna
What kid wouldn’t want to play with a toy that looks like a giant piece of kelp? In America we have our teddy bears but in Japan they have their seafood dolls. This 9 meter long plush seaweed is soft and fun for kids to imagine they are floating in an undersea world of wonder. Or they can be chefs like kids pictured above. Personally I’d be more like a creature emerging from the sea, covered in seaweed, ready to destroy the city. Or something like that. Might even work as a scarf. If your kids want something more animated (and educational, not that seaweed isn’t educational) there’s also this:

Brain Shaped Hard Drive and Light
This is definitely the oddest yet most fascinating external hard drive we’ve ever come across. Since the hard drive is sort of like the brain of your computer (part of it anyway), why not encase one inside a brain shape? Then maybe add a giant spine for it to sit upon. That’s just what The Brain does. And it lights up. But not just light up like a lamp. This thing is a full on Chris Kuroda psychedelic jam session. Check the video:
Woo, so many pretty colors. The Brain actually has a method to it’s madness. When it’s idle, it flashes red. But as soon as the hard drive is accessed, it’s straight up dance party USA. Provide your own music. The whole thing was actually made completely from scratch. Basically everything is DIY except the hard drive itself. He started by sculpting a brain out of clay:
Then a vacuum formed transparent mold of it was created. He built the controlling components onto a circuit board, even laser cut the case and the acrylic “spine” with all the discs inside.
The base is home made as well. The hard drive is actually in the base. It took quite a bit of programming to get the LEDs to light up in the proper sequence and at the proper times. I probably never thought I’d be saying this about an unwieldy 5 foot tall hard drive but it’s pretty cool (I actually never imagined I’d be writing about a 5 foot tall hard drive, period). I’d love to see this baby all lit up in the dark.

They say that cockroaches will outlive us all when the nuclear winter comes to destroy the planet. Or something like that. While these little bugs might be impressive with their survival abilities, you still probably don’t want to see one in your home. Unless it’s your phone’s case. In which case, bring on the case, witch.
This iPhone Cockroach Case is made of silicone so it’s tough like real cockroaches. It doesn’t have that satisfying crunch when you step on it though. I guess that’s a good thing when you’ve got an expensive iDevice in it’s soft shell. No need to call an exterminator, there’s an app for that. Still not as gross as the dead marine animal iPhone case though.

Pregnancy is an exciting time for mothers-to-be. There’s a natural curiosity about what’s going on with that baby inside your belly. Yes, it’s from Japan. It also has six types of womb melodies that it can play (whatever that is). The theory is that you can calm an upset newborn baby by playing back the calming protective sounds they heard just a short time ago when they were in the womb. How effective that actually will be is anyone’s guess. And just what does it sound like inside the womb? I’m guessing like whales under the ocean. It also has slots to insert photos of the baby or your favorite basketball player or whatever.
