Glenrothes 1970 Extraordinary Cask whiskey sells for $5,000

Karanvir Singh:

The Glenrothes, a Speyside single malt scotch brand owned by Berry Bros. & Rudd, that has made a name for itself with a highly collectable series of vintage malts, has now proudly unveiled one of its most exclusive series of single cask bottling of ‘The Glenrothes’ from the late 1960s and early 1970s. With the release of this ‘extraordinary cask collection,’ Berry Bros. & Rudd as a merchant is actually continuing its philosophy of selecting the finest quality wines and spirits for its customers. However, this cask collection has been made possible by the discovery of vintage casks of unrivaled provenance from a private collector in Scotland, by Berry Bros & Rudd’s brand-heritage director Ronnie Cox. Notably, this whiskey has been chosen as a supreme example of the Speyside distillery’s supple, silky style. The rare cask found is the last of its year, and once the 179 bottles yielded by this cask are gone, the 1970 vintage will be no more available.

TshirtOS is web-connected, programmable, 100 percent cotton (video)

TshirtOS is webconnected, programmable, 100 percent cotton

An LED display, camera, microphone, speaker and accelerometer all packaged into a t-shirt and controlled via your smartphone? That's the concept behind tshirtOS, a wearable platform for "self-expression" that currently only exists as a prototype. It can show off tweets, play music videos, capture belly-height photos and send them off to Instagram, and pretty much do anything except play percussion. CuteCircuit, which came up with the idea in cahoots (inexplicably) with Ballantine's whisky, says it's about to conduct product tests and will mass produce the smart-shirts if enough folks register interest. There's no Kickstarter page, definite specs or pricing for any of this, but based on CuteCircuit's history and the video after the break we're inclined to believe TshirtOS is more than just viral marketing stunt for the sake of a dram -- click onwards and judge for yourself.

The First Dalmore Constellation Collection sold to real estate developer Mahesh Patel for $247,938

Karanvir Singh:

We have earlier reported about the Dalmore Constellation Collection that brings together, for the very first time, the complete spectrum of vintages created in Dalmore’s iconic Highland distillery between the years 1964 and 1992. The collection consists of 21 individual ‘expressions’ of the finest malt; the magnificent and bold whiskies that have spent their lives finessing in the finest casks from around the world. This refinement is further matched by the presentation in handblown crystal decanters which are as unique as the spirit within, and housed in bespoke lacquered presentation cabinet. Now, one of the world’s first Dalmore Constellation Collection has been sold for $247,938 through The Whisky Shop in the UK to an American entrepreneur and property developer, Mahesh Patel, who will add this to his already considerable collection, estimated to be worth $2 million.

Thor Single Malt Scotch Whisky Will Help You Get Hammered

When you line up those shot glasses, prepare to shout, “By the power of Thor!” Is that a Thor saying? I haven’t read the comic in years. Anyway, if you want to drink like a mighty God, there is only one beverage that will quench your thirst.

Thor Whisky
This Thor single malt whisky comes from Highland Park, based in the Orkney Islands. Clearly, they saw a void in the superhero booze market and rushed to fill it with the Valhalla Collection. Thor’s hammer is nicely embossed on the bottle, which is cradled in a carved wooden display case that looks like the bow of a Nordic ship.

A bottle of the limited-edition whisky will cost you $245(USD) if you have a void in your liquor cabinet that needs to be filled with a the nectar of the Gods.

Glenfiddich to hold the world’s highest whisky tasting event at Mt. Everest base camp

Wrik Sen:

The end of 2011 and 2012 till date, Glenfiddich has made the headlines for its premier whisky edition, the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve, dedicated to the 110-year old granddaughter of the founder of William Grant & Sons distillery. But not all of what they have offered relates to celebrating a luxurious lifestyle. They seem to divert attention to charitable causes too, just like ‘Glenfiddich for Haiti victims’ special edition bottle. With the same pioneering spirit, they are now working for the Walking with the Wounded Everest 2012 expedition, which is about a fundraising challenge for the wounded personnel of the defense forces. The event will 4 adventure mountaineers teaming up with 2 wounded defense personnel, and a guide to climb the greatest known peaks of Mount Everest. This event will also have what will eventually become the world’s highest held whisky tasting event, at the one of the mountain’s base camps.
