The Cold and the Beautiful

This is what I love about the Yanko family. It’s a thriving design community that’s eager not only to see new designs, but also to encourage better ones. Back in 2010, designer Ashley Legg envisioned the Smart Fridge, quite an avant-garde concept for 5 years ago, when the Internet of Things was just about catching on… Today the Smart Fridge comes back as the Smart Fridge 2.0, in a sleek new avatar.

The amped-up futuristic refrigerator comes with its signature touch interface that makes the fridge your own personal JARVIS in the kitchen. Cameras inside the fridge sense and keep a track of what goes in and also the freshness of the ingredients. The fridge interface can suggest meals and display recipes based on what your fridge has inside it. Technology built into the fridge can help you plan your diet/intake. And just to shake the world up a little, the Smart Fridge 2.0 allows you to even do your food shopping from the screen on your fridge door!

What say, People of Yanko??

SimCity update 2.0 hits April 22, offers bug fixes, enhancements — still no offline mode

Although SimCity has become relatively stable following its problematic launch, there are naturally still ongoing bugs that the folks at EA Maxis have been working to fix. Thankfully, that version 2.0 update that was teased just over a week ago now has an arrival date of April 22 at 4PM ET. Included in the update are 26 bug fixes, along with data map color filters, a color-correct HUD for the colorblind setting and the action of mayors traveling from their mansions to their jobs. Sadly, an offline mode is still no more than wishful thinking, but at least that OS X version should still be on track for a June 11th release. You'll find all the details about your virtual city's soon-to-arrive enhancements at the source link -- expect some server downtime, by the way, when the update itself hits.

Showtime’s second screen iPad app hits 2.0, goes from Social to Sync

Showtime's second screen iPad app hits 20, goes from Social to Sync

With its season premieres of Dexter and Homeland (trailers are embedded after the break) on deck for next Sunday evening, Showtime has refashioned its second screen iPad app in version 2.0 and even changed the name to reflect new features. Now dubbed Showtime Sync, it follows other network branded apps (AMC, MTV, NBC and Syfy come to mind) by focusing on pushing relevant content, viewer polls and the like to the tablet while the show plays. It syncs up automatically from the show's audio, which should make things simple when watching via DVR, VOD and even DVD / Blu-ray or streaming (could you have Showtime Anytime streaming on one tablet synced to another one?), while promising lots of photos plus behind the scenes content when the episode ends. Hit the source link to grab the free app, how you come by the episodes you'll have to figure out on your own.

ITV Player 2.0 brings live streams of the UK broadcaster’s TV channels to iOS

It's on Apple's iPhone and iPad, but this is the ITV Player, not the rumored iTV supposedly under development in Cupertino. After initially launching last summer (along with an Android version) offering streaming video on-demand, the UK channel's iOS app has been updated to version 2.0 to offer a live streaming feed of its two channels. Other than just ITV1 and ITV2 over WiFi or 3G, if there's a live event being broadcast that isn't on either, you'll still be able to tune in via the app. Other new features include AirPlay Mirroring, easier switching between content, improved location detection (to determine what channels are available) and Retina Display quality graphics on the iPad. Unfortunately, The Digital Lifestyle points out catch-up access is still unavailable over 3G, but those with access should grab the new app from iTunes.
