Lord of the Rings Bag End Litter Box

Hobbits normally keep their homes pretty clean, but this Hobbit Hole is one that you do not want to visit. Unless you are a cat. Every other week, the folks at AWE me get some of Hollywood’s top prop makers to build one-of-a-kind items. This week they build an impressive Hobbit-hole kitty litter box and an Eye of Sauron cat scratching post to go with.

Both look pretty impressive. Too bad that one is going to smell like crap and the other will end up scratched to bits. I hope that guy and his two fat cats, (Frodo and Sam) enjoy them while they can. Bag End? More like Gag End! Man, what are you feeding those cats?

Seriously, these builds are awesome. Those are some lucky cats.

Life-sized LEGO Bag End: Hobrickton

You have to be a serious Hobbit fan to build a life-sized version of Bag End. Especially when you consider that this masterpiece took 3,000 hours to build using only LEGO and Duplo bricks. But it is now complete.

And beautiful, it is. It was obviously a real labor of Hobbit love. And the detail looks pretty stunning. The model measures 18-feet-long, 6.5-feet-tall and 6-feet-deep. While the builders can’t tell us exactly how many bricks they used, their computer model says that it has the equivalent of over 2.5 million 1×1 LEGO bricks.

This thing is enough to get any LEGO or LOTR nerd worked up to build their own masterpiece. However all of that time and the sheer number of bricks it took to make this makes me glad that I can appreciate it from afar without all of the work.

Check out the video below to see how this epic LEGO build came together:

The Bag End model was designed and assembled by a team of LEGO model builders to promote their new set, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Gathering, which will let you have the same scene – at 1/20th of the size – for about $70(USD).

Miniature Bag End Terrarium: The Hobbits Downsize

Bilbo and Frodo are small enough as it is, but if they were even smaller they could live in this 10-inch-tall terrarium version of Bag End by FaceoftheEarth. This highly detailed, hand-sculpted house was made from reference shots from the movies. Adding even more realism is a living ecosystem of moss harvested from forests by its creator.

If you care for it properly, you can keep your terrarium healthy and green and thriving for a long time. This is a good thing, because this miniature hovel will cost you $375(USD). Luckily the seller provides some care instructions with your purchase.

You could probably find or make some tiny hobbit figures to finish things off.

Bag End Made from Balloons

Just the other day we told you about the homemade Hobbit Doll House that one Tolkien fan made, now we have Bag End made from balloons. Geeks are going Hobbit crazy.

Jeremy Telford, of The Balloon Guys, spent 40 hours on this version of Bilbo Baggins’ home. He didn’t use a doll house. He used his living room and turned it into a nice hobbit home, using 2,600 balloons. Check out the time-lapse video below.

I’m assuming that he doesn’t have any cats and that he forbids any sharp objects from entering his home. He did a nice job, but I’m sure the room shrinks a bit each day as those balloons lose air.
