The GoBoat Is Functional, And That’s All That Matters

goboat

You want a watercraft that packs in the trunk of your car, works well, and lets you go fishing all by yourself without too much trouble? Look no further than the GoBoat. Weighing only 15 lbs, the boat assembles in minutes, with different parts simply snapping together. You’ll need a pump to inflate the bladder (high velocity hand pump included), and then a bit of elbow grease to drop the transom mounted trolling motor (sold separately) in once it’s set up. But no big deal. It’ll accept most types of such motors, which themselves weigh about 30 lbs and cost maybe $100. The GoBoat itself is a $199 pledge, with shipping in September 2016 if funding is successful.

Inflatable Clear Bottomed Kayak

inflatable clear kayak
They say you can’t take it with you. But you can take it with you AND see what’s happening all around you with the Inflatable Clear Bottom Kayak. You can even bring a friend along the way. This two person kayak has a pair of 19″ by 14″ clear polycarbonate panels on the bottom of the boat so you can see all the terrain, plants, and marine life that’s below you as you paddle along. Since the kayak is inflatable that also means it deflates so you can carry it:
inflatable clear kayak backpack
It includes a mesh backpack to carry the boat (even if it just means carrying it from your car to the river or across some dry terrain to get to the next section of navigable water). The kayak’s hull is made from durable UV-resistant 1200-denier tarpaulin and 3 high-pressure drop stitch panels on the floor support up to 350 pounds. That’s should be sufficient for 2 people or 1 person and a literal boatload of beer. Either way it’s a good time all around.

The seats are foam padded for comfort and the kayak has 4 hard rudders to assist with tracking and stability. It has bungee tie-downs with covers to hold your gear safely. 4 handles help with portage, or you could just deflate it. The kayak comes with an air pump that will blow your kayak up in under 10 minutes. Fully inflated the craft measures 14 feet long by 3 feet wide, deflated it’s 32″ by 18″ by 14″. The whole thing weighs just 50 pounds. Pretty cool and a great way to own a kayak without needing a roof rack or trailer for your car.

In real life it looks better than the product photo they provided above (seriously, what’s up with that picture?). Better yet, check out a video of someone flying the kite below to see how it weaves through the air with ease:

That’s cool, I really like the cut of that kite’s jib. The kite comes with over 150 feet of string and a handle for easy flying. Just take it out on a windy day and thar she blows landlubbers. Definitely a unique head turning kite.

Aircraft Carrier Barbecue Grill

battleship grill Aircraft Carrier Barbecue Grill
Here’s an unusual grill from Japan that’s shaped like a huge aircraft carrier. The flight deck is a massive grill that you can cook your food right on. It seems quite impractical and awesomely cool at the same time. It pretty much begs to have hot dogs cut up and toothpicked into airplane shapes to be cooked and take off from the grill. Or maybe cook a flying fish. (via jalopnik)

Inflatable Boat Dress: Great for Fashion Emergencies

boat dress Inflatable Boat Dress: Great for Fashion Emergencies
Whatever floats your boat. This raft dress combines fashion and floating in a bizarre way. I’m no fashion expert (I learned everything I know from Project Runway) but I believe this is a prime example of avant-garde. It was designed by Jacqueline Bradley who says it actually does float. Whether or not it fits through the door is a whole different question. (cleo via neatorama)

Serenading Pool Gondolier

singing pool gondolier Serenading Pool Gondolier
Turn your pool into a Venetian paradise (in miniature) with the Serenading Pool Gondolier Serenading Pool Gondolier. This 9″ tall crooner on a 15″ boat floats around your pool and sings three classic Italian opera songs, “La dona è mobile, ‘O sole mio, and Funiculì, funicular”. Thankfully there’s adjustable volume control. His mouth actually moves when he sings and there’s a light on the gondola’s deck for nighttime concerts. You can control the boat’s path a bit with the rudder. Works in the bathtub too (and obviously if you have a moat it works there too. also you’re pretty awesome if you have a moat.)

UPenn robots spring into action, save wooden hero (video)

Image

Like you, we assumed that the University of Pennsylvania robotics team wouldn't be able to top the wow factor of that amazing video of Quadrocopters playing the James Bond theme, but if this doesn't best it, it sure comes close. Marvel as a quadrocopter, RC truck and a team of scale shipping-containers-turned-autonomous-robotic-boats band together to aid a wood artist's model. It's quite the site to behold, and according to the University, all the researchers have to do is tell the boats the final shape -- in this case a curved, floating bridge. Video's after the break.
