This modular seating system inspired by space-age aesthetics can be configured in multiple ways

When it comes to seating arrangements, one must be super picky and wise. The right seating decision holds immense value to it since your seating arrangement must be comfortable, ergonomic, and aesthetically pleasing too – if possible. A smart and well-designed seating piece I recently came across, that ticks all these boxes is the Pipeline modular seating system.

Designer: Alexander Lotersztain for Derlot

Designed by Alexander Lotersztain for the Australian brand Derlot, the Pipeline modular seating system features a rather distinctive and innovative cylindrical backrest. Inspired by space-age designs, the Pipeline seating system has an intriguing snaking backrest that can be modified and configured in different ways to create a variety of diverse and interesting seating arrangements.

The seating system has different modules that are equipped with grooves at the rear or across the middle of the seats. Straight or curved cushions are placed in these grooves, creating variations in the arrangement.” This flexible modularity paired with a minimalist form creates an incredibly simple, yet iconic design,” said Lotersztain. And I agree! Pipeline’s modularity, flexibility, and rather minimal aesthetic make it a pleasant addition to any living space. It can merge with the different interior styles of different homes.

Pipeline is designed to be suitable for both homes and public environments. Derlot says that Pipeline’s cylindrical cushioning offers unparalleled comfort as well as adds a unique design element. In fact, you can pair up the seating system with Derlot’s powder-coated steel side tables. They pair up to add a rather bold yet subtle aura to your living space. The side tables can be used either free-standing or tucked away between units for a floating effect. You can also incorporate power and USB sockets. Besides working great for homes, I think Pipeline could also be a suitable option for modern-day office spaces, especially ones that have a generous amount of space. The seating system could be added to these offices, functioning as a space for employees to meet, engage and interact. It serves as a relaxing and casual space for employees to take breaks or unwind in during a hectic work day.

This minimal + branching seating design features a biophilic structure

When it comes to seating arrangements, one must be super picky and wise. The right seating decision holds immense value to it since your seating arrangement must be comfortable, ergonomic, and aesthetically pleasing too – if possible. A smart and well-designed seating piece I recently came across, that ticks all these boxes is the Twig seating.

Designer: Alexander Lotersztain for Derlot

Designed by Alexander Lotersztain for Derlot, the Twig seating is designed for both the indoors and outdoors. The unique seating design features a biophilic structure heavily inspired by nature. Nature is always a great source of inspiration in the arena of design, and it’s quite interesting to see how Lotersztain has intertwined nature in a rather minimal and sturdy furniture piece.

The Twig seating was originally designed in 2008, and it is in fact modeled on the boughs of trees. If you inspect closer, you’ll notice that the innovative form of the furniture artfully mimics the boughs of a tree, creating a rather geometrically intriguing form that instantly grabs attention. The various units can be positioned next to each other, creating a larger and branching pattern, that provides seating space for a number of people. This tree-inspired biophilic shape forms natural meeting points in the crooks of the ‘branches’, creating spaces for people to interact and engage, thereby encouraging social interactions and connections.  It’s a great space to sit down, and have a meaningful conversation while feeling completely comfortable.

The standard version of the seat is great for the outdoors and is built from low-density polyethylene (LDPE). It can be optically illuminated from within. While the indoor version can be upholstered in either fabric or leather.

This versatile seating collection includes modular seating and work booths to make offices comfortable

Employees have slowly but surely made their way back to corporate offices, and it is certainly a transitionary phase where they learn to adapt and settle down in an office space once again. In such a situation, it’s important to add well-designed furniture designs that help them feel comfortable, space, and motivated in their workplace. And adding the right furniture designs can greatly contribute to creating an office that is conducive to motivation and productivity. And one such furniture design that I recently came across is the Homework seating collection by Derlot.

Designer: Derlot

Designed by Derlot founder Alexander Lotersztain, the Homework seating collection includes modular seating and work booths designed to make corporate offices feel more comfortable and conducive to productivity. It consists of a versatile and wide range of linkable elements which feature a harmonious merging of wood and upholstery. The blending of wooden and upholstered elements creates a collection of furniture pieces that are minimal and sturdy.

The collection consists of 90-degree curved units that are conjoined together to form a ring or circle of seating around a table. It also includes 60-degree angled units that can be used to create intriguing layouts, as well as workstations that can be utilized to work in some privacy and with some more focus. There are booths as well that can be used to hold small or casual meetings. The various seating units are available in a variety of options – with no backs at all, low backs, or high backs. The high backs are available with an option of bar tables at the back, which can be used to create an additional casual seating area or a stand-up desk.

“Marrying functionality, simplicity, and contemporary design aesthetics, Homework embraces the compound nature of its name by challenging the relevance of clear-cut workspaces and bringing a feeling of home to work,” said Derlot. The seating collection comes upholstered in an option of fabric or leather – according to the customer’s choice. The legs and tabletop are available in options of American oak, black-stained American oak, or American walnut. Integrated power units can be added to the seating as well.

This modern and minimal snaking seating system is inspired by German highways

How often do you pay attention to the seating system in your office cafeteria or any public space for that matter? Not very often, or to be honest not at all. And I don’t blame you, since the seating system seen these days are monotonous, uniform, and quite blah. There is simply no reason for them to grab our attention, or inspire us to compliment their aesthetics. But this is where the Autobahn Seating proves to be different. Created by designer Alexander Lotersztain in collaboration with the Australian brand Derlot, Autobahn Seating is a unique and modern seating system.

Designer: Alexander Lotersztain for Derlot

What makes Autobahn so unique and interesting is the fact that is it inspired by German highways! Autobahn was originally designed in 2012 to be a modular and flexible seating system whose various components can be effortlessly reconfigured to provide for a wide range of functions in all kinds of spaces. It aims to be a continuous and free-flowing seating solution.

Autobahn is defined by both straight and curved bench seating modules, which can be connected to create one long and slithering snake-like structure. The various modules also come along with small circular tables that can be optionally added by attaching them to the legs. An upholstered armrest at a raised angle can also be added to the system. The armrest will run parallel to the seats.

“Just like the German highway, the Autobahn collection is all about flowing lines, open spaces, and endless possibilities. A refined and pared-back form allows Autobahn to effortlessly change gears and adapt to both formal and informal environments,” said Derlot. Autobahn comes in a variety of fabrics and leathers that you can pick and choose from. The legs and tables are also available in a diverse selection of powder-coated colors and wood veneers.
