Harmonix Dropmix Blends Music Game with Card Game

Harmonix is no stranger to music games, with hits like Rock Band and Dance Central to their credit. Now they have teamed up with Hasbro to bring us Dropmix. This time around you won’t need to purchase a bunch of plastic instruments to play – just cards.

Dropmix is played with a pack of physical cards and a board that connects to an iOS or Android device. The board connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth and can recognize the NFC-enabled cards. Each card represents the vocals, drums, or bass of a different song from a popular musician or band. Song mixes are then created as different cards are put down in a different order. Think of it as a mash-up of DJ remixes and strategic deck building – an interesting combo indeed.

You can play 1v1 or 2v2 player games. Points are determined by the hand of cards that are played. The app keeps track of score and can even save the songs from different play sessions. This could be another big hit for the company. We will see. It certainly is different.
