Nikon’s Tiny KeyMission360 Action Camera Shoots 360º Video: Annuit Surf Vids

Nikon’s New Year’s surprise is the KeyMission 360, a hybrid device that combines the ability to take 360º videos and still photos with the size and durability of an action camera.

As of this writing, Nikon hasn’t revealed a lot of specifics regarding the device. But we do know that it has a pair of image sensors and lenses on opposite faces, it’s dustproof, shockproof and waterproof, it can shoot 4K videos and it can mitigate vibration to keep videos as smooth and stable as possible.

Here are a few sample videos taken with the KeyMission 360. I imagine more will be uploaded to its official YouTube channel.

Is the KeyMission 360 too late? Too niche? Too gimmicky? Too dependent on VR headsets? I guess we’ll find out after it becomes available this spring. All I know is that the life I lead is not worthy of an action camera. Or any camera for that matter.

The Very Visible Traffic Lights

Panorama Traffic Lights are easily visible to pedestrians even if it is hidden behind tall buses (and other bulky vehicles) at the signal crossing. It is designed in a manner that increases the signal’s visibility across various viewing angles. It enhances road safety by cutting down accidents and ensuring that crossings are safer. Love the design and wonder if this is the solution we are looking for.

Which Smartphones support Panoramic Photography

For panoramic photography, a range of cameras, Smartphone, gadgets, and special software are available. Nearly all the Smartphone manufacturers comes with built in panoramic photography, more so...

Google Camera App Brings Lens Blur and Panorama to Android

Google Camera App

More than slightly rivalling Instagram’s photo filters, Google has released the Google Camera app to brings lens blur, panorama and more to Android devices.

Give anyone with a bit of technological know how and an ounce of vanity a chance and the second you’re not looking you’ll probably find them on Instagram, snapping photos and double tapping away as they make good use of the photo-sharing apps crop, rotate and filter functions. In fact, with Instagram’s weekly photography challenges, the service is one of the most popular reasons to own a smartphone or tablet with a decent camera. But what if users want more than what Instagram can offer them? What if sepia-tinged selfies just won’t cut it? In all honesty, there aren’t really a lot of alternatives as plenty of people just invest in Photoshop and a decent DSLR (digital single lens reflex camera) but now, the Google Camera app is looking to change that by bringing lens blur, panorama and more to Android powered devices.

While the benefits of getting the Google Camera app (which is free) are apparent, its features are more than a bargain. The headline feature of lens blur allows users to distort the depth of field by focusing on one object in the foreground and managing to blur everything else in the background behind it. Typically used to put emphasis on a subject or object, Google Camera’s lens blur feature is said to work remarkably well, not just beating Instagram’s offerings but that of expensive DSLRs too. Panorama is a much needed staple, letting you capture things far and wide in order to knit them together like a single shot when in reality the final edit is made up of a few images. It makes taking photos of a gorgeous landscape far easier and is useful if you don’t have any photo editing skills or know how. Finally, the third big feature in the Google Camera app is Photo Sphere. Photo Sphere actually works a lot like Panorama in that it knits multiple shots together but instead of only capturing things from left to right, Photo Sphere accommodates up and down too, meaning that you can capture the beautiful view in front of you as well as the sky above and the ground below your feet, providing a clear depiction of just what you did or where you went that day.

The only catch to the Google Camera app is that it’s only available on certain Android devices. Compatible with smartphones and tablets that run Android KitKat 4.0 or higher, those who have yet to upgrade their Android devices or those who are unable to will miss out on the Google branded picture fun. It’s unclear whether Google are looking to release the app for earlier versions of Android but we’ll keep you posted once we know more.

Eye Mirror Camera Add-on Lets You Take High Definition 360º Videos: 3D POV

We’ve seen a couple of devices that let you take 360º videos or images with ease. However, going by their sample shots, the videos they take are significantly warped and blurry. Thomas Seidl and his Eye Mirror promise to let you take 360º videos in high definition. The privilege is going to cost you, but it just might be worth it.

The Eye Mirror is a lens add-on for pretty much any camera, from old point-and-shoots to DSLRS. It even has a special case for the insanely popular GoPro cameras. When paired with the GoPro Hero3 Black (and a custom firmware), you can Eye Mirror claims that you can shoot 3020 x 3020 360º videos at 15fps. In simple terms, the lens has a curved mirror at the top that reflects the surroundings in a ring.

All you have to do is attach the Eye Mirror lens to your camera and point the camera upwards. When you’re done, load the video to your PC to convert it into an interactive 360º video. So you go from that, to this:

Check out the company’s Kickstarter video below:

As implied in the video, you can share the interactive video online through Eye Mirror’s own video sharing site. The company will also be launching a separate viewer for people who own the Oculus Rift, though that software has its separate price tag. Speaking of which, pledge at least £120 (~$196 USD) on Kickstarter to get an Eye Mirror Lens. Check the reward tiers carefully because as I said the lens has different variants, so make sure the one you’re getting fits your camera.

You should also checkout the sample interactive videos on Eye Mirror’s website.

Google launches Views hub to showcase Photo Spheres and panoramas in Google Maps

Google launches Views hub for sharing Photo Spheres

As slick as Android's Photo Spheres can be, they're typically hard to find unless someone posts them for you. Google is making that discovery almost trivial by launching Views, its new Google Maps section for Photo Spheres and panoramas. The page both streamlines importing photos from Google+ and simplifies tracking them down by their author, location or popularity. Google also includes its Street View galleries, giving explorers fast access to professional tours alongside the usual amateur photography. Not many of us can contribute to Views when Photo Sphere only works with a few of the latest Android devices, but everyone can at least see what they're missing at the source link.
