Getting It Clean Alright

The Rolling Static-cleaner is silent cordless cleaner with a ball tip that traps fur and dust. It basically uses electromagnetic force to attract the dust particles and fur that is shed by your pets. We all know the merits of a clean home: lesser allergies and sickness; thus the use of a technology that ensures this, is very relevant. I love the wand design of the machine. Kinda makes it futuristic.

  • Rolling Static-cleaner uses electromagnets within the ball and the body of the cleaner to separate the two parts.
  • The ball attracts fur and dust.
  • As the ball is rolled across the floor, the fur and dust gathers inside the wand in a holding area.
  • It is silent, comfortable to use, and easy to empty.

The Rolling Rule

Your index finger has many purposes; just add plus one to it! Thanks to the Finger&Ruler concept, you can measure the dimensions of an object by simply rolling the ruler over it. The wheel concept makes it easy to measure using just one hand, in lieu of the traditional tape measure and two-hands! Simple and functional, I really think this concept rocks!

The Finger&Ruler is a 2013 iF Design Award concept design winner.

HyTAQ hybrid quadrotor robot travels by air and land, leaves us no place to hide (video)

HyTAQ hybrid quadrotor robot travels by air and land, leaves us no place to hide video

Few robots can travel gracefully through more than one medium; more often than not, they're either strictly airborne or tied to the ground. The Illinois Institute of Technology's HyTAQ quadrotor doesn't abide by these arbitrary limits. The hybrid machine, designed by Arash Kalantari and Matthew Spenko, uses the same actuators to drive both its flight as well as a surrounding cage for rolling along on the ground, quickly switching between the two methods. It's clearly adaptable, but using the one system also provides large power advantages over a traditional quadrotor, Spenko tells us. While HyTAQ's battery lasts only for 5 minutes and 1,969 feet of pure flight, that jumps to 27 minutes and 7,874 feet when the robot can use a smooth floor instead -- and of course, it can hop over ground obstacles altogether instead of making a detour. The range of the robot and its pilot are the main limiting factors, but the patent process is already underway with hopes of winning commercial deals. We're both excited and worried as a result; as wonderfully flexible as HyTAQ is, widescale adoption could lead to especially relentless robots during the inevitable takeover.

Kid Piloted Inflatable Rolling Honeycomb

kid powered tumbler 650x650 Kid Piloted Inflatable Rolling Honeycomb
I always wanted to go into one of those inflatable rolling balls and roll down a hill. At my age I’d probably throw up after one roll but for kids it’s a ton of fun. The Child Piloted Tumbler Kid Piloted Inflatable Rolling Honeycomb lets kids climb into the inflatable honeycomb and roll around like crazy. The 30 chambered globe is made of heavy-duty thick PVC with room inside the 47″ diameter ball for a child up to 100 lbs to move around and shift positions enough to move it with just their body weight. Ten of the chambers are clear so the kid can see where they are going. Just $79 from Hammacher, cheap enough that it would be cool to have a pair (or more!) of these and play some cool games.
