Finally, The Hot Sauce for Coffee We All Haven’t Been Waiting For

Because apparently the best part of waking up is hot sauce in your cup, Lauren D’Souza has formulated the Ujjo line of hot sauces designed specifically for adding to coffee. What a time to be alive! But regular coffee already makes me need to go to the bathroom bad enough.

Available in light roast and dark roast blends, the Ujjo light roast formula combines ginger, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and dried orange peel with pasilla, cayenne, chili de arbol, and ghost chilis for heat. The dark blend is a combination of cinnamon, cocoa, and vanilla with ground pasilla, guajillo, red hatch, ghost chili peppers to kick it up a notch. Yum! And by yum, I mean my stomach is churning just thinking about it.

Hey, different strokes for different folks – that’s what my favorite substitute teacher Mrs. Gitland used to tell us all in high school. Maybe hot sauce coffee is for you, or maybe it isn’t. One this is for sure, though; it’s definitely a conversation starter. That conversation presumably started with, “Quick, where’s your bathroom?!”

Sweet Heat Skittles Are Hot Stuff

I can get behind sweet things that are kind of spicy. I am a big fan of Hot Tamale candies and have been known to mow through a pack or two of Red Hots a year. I was in the gas station over the weekend and noticed they have a hot Pepsi flavor now so sweet hot things are in. If you need any more proof just look at these new Sweet Heat Skittles, which turned up at the Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago last week.

They have several flavors inside each bag, but we don’t know what they will be yet. All we know for now is that they will have “fruity flavors with a spicy kick.”

I’d be all in on a bag of cinnamon Skittles, but I am not sure about this. I’m not a big fan of spicy fruit or things that are hot just to be hot. I’d totally try these though to see if they are decent. We’ll have to wait a while to find out though. They’re not supposed to be available until December.

Hottest Chip In The World Is Sold In Coffin Shaped Box

paqui-carolina-reaper-1

The Carolina Reaper Madness chip is sold individually. Yes, we mean that you can buy one single chip, which comes packed in a sealed pouch, which itself is carried inside a coffin-shaped cardboard box. It’s the hottest chip in the world and gets its fire from the world’s hottest pepper, the Carolina Reaper. Paqui Chips, who make this “delicacy”, even decided to toss in some ghost pepper and chipotle seasoning for good measure. And why just one? In an interview with Mashable, Jess Day, Brand Manager for Paqui Chips said:

…quite honestly, that’s all that you need. That’s all that anyone needs. It’s the hottest chip you’ll ever have, I can guarantee you that. After you eat that one chip, trust me, you’re not looking to dig back into the bag and have a second one.”

It’s $5 for that one chip, which might seem like a lot for a single chip. But if you think that, you’re sort of missing the point.

Crime & Punishment Chile-Infused Beers Will Put Your Manliness To The Test

stone-crime-punishment-beer-xl

You can say you like beer, but if all you ever down is can after can of Bud Light, you don’t like beer; you like getting drunk. The more discerning aficionados tend to gravitate towards craft brews as they typically pack more taste and aroma than their mass produced corporate counterparts. On the scene since 1996, Stone Brewing company is known for their hop-heavy California-style brews. And now they’ve launched an intriguing duo of chile pepper-infused beers, called Crime and Punishment, which is based on some of their better selling current roster of beers. Here’s their description of what they’ve done:

Crime is Lukcy Basartd Ale (correct spelling -Ed.) (a blend of Arrogant Bastard Ale, Double Bastard Ale and OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale) brewed with freshly harvested peppers and aged in bourbon barrels. Like a criminal act, this capsicum-laced temptation — brewed with jalapeños and black nagas, to name but a few — provides entrée into the seedy underbelly of Stone’s pepper-induced purgatory. Similarly, Punishment is 2013 Double Bastard Ale brewed with freshly harvested peppers and aged in bourbon barrels. Brutally hot and unyielding in its imposition, this intensely hellish spawn of Caribbean red hots, fatalis and Moruga scorpion peppers is a just dessert for any spice-taunting masochist who dares to engage it.

Craft beer, hot peppers, mouth melting heat? Sounds like a combination made for the more daunting among us. And we’re going to do everything we can to get our hands on some.

This Ain’t Your Childhood’s PB&J: Face-Melting Instant Regret Peanut Butter

The Instant Regret peanut butter is aptly named: it’s infused with so much capsaicin (the active ingredient that makes something spicy) that we’re having trouble believing there isn’t a typo somewhere, and if there isn’t, you’re guaranteed to regret its ingestion! See, Instant Regret peanut butter is rated at 12 million SHU on the Scoville Scale. That… is troubling. Police grade pepper spray is somewhere in the vicinity of 2 million SHU. The last time we reported on some spicy thing, it was Timmy’s Great Balls of Fire which rated at a tame 1 million SHU. To further the perspective, a Habanero pepper is around 200,000 SHU, and Taco Bell’s Fire Sauce 500. So, 12 million SHU is quite a few orders of magnitude higher. The ingredients are as follows:

Peanuts, Sunflower Oil, Habanero, King Naga, 12m [SHU] Chilli Extract, Sugar Syrup, Salt

Yeah, so there you have it. Seriously spicy peanut butter. We still think there may be some typo, as some of our readers will undoubtedly express skepticism. We would suggest one of you try it out and report back to us, but we worry about encouraging any activity that might result is injury.

It’s £7 or about $12 a jar.

Atomic Fallout Burger: Wear Gloves, Sign a Waiver, and Say Your Prayers Before Eating It

Atomic Fallout Burger

A burger that requires you to wear gloves and sign a waiver before you eat it? Sounds pretty scary (but intriguing) to me. It looks like a typical burger, but that’s where its similarities to a Big Mac end because this one is a zinger.

It’s called the Atomic Fallout Burger for good reason. Aside from the fact that it’s got a pound of meat sandwiched in between two deep-fried mini pizzas, it’s also extremely hot, hot, hot. A rich 3-pepper sauce has been slathered on the meat, and somewhere in between all its layers lie two of the hottest peppers known to man: the ghost pepper and the Scotch bonnet.

The burger ranks 1,000,000 on the Scoville scale so if you’ve got a weak stomach (and a weak heart), then this is not for you. Only 500 people have attempted to eat the burger, and of these people, only 1 in 10 have succeeded.

Atomic Fallout Burger

Are you up to challenge? The Atomic Fallout Burger is available from England’s Atomic Burgers (so tough luck for the rest of us who live elsewhere.)

Ghost Pepper Spicy Watermelon Candies Could Have Been Awesome

By David Ponce

These hard candies taste like watermelon mixed in with Bhut Jolokia pepper powder. That pepper is also known as the Ghost Pepper and was until recently considered the world’s spiciest. That combination alone sounded pretty enticing, although the inclusion of the Bhut jolokia was really the intriguing part. After all, it was only last February that we were reporting on Timmy’s Great Balls of Fire, candy also coated with the famous pepper. Today’s candy appeared to one-up Timmy’s balls with the inclusion of the sweet watermelon flavour that we hoped would provide a mildly mellow counterpoint to the hellish fire of the Ghost pepper. But reading the description is making us think that there’s barely any pepper there at all. Maybe just enough to be able to get away with saying it’s there; if three out of four staffers at the retailer that sells it were able to survive the experience, they’re clearly not getting a full ghost pepper production. Still, maybe as a tame introduction to the world of the super peppers, the Spicy Watermelon candies could be interesting. It’s $6 for a pack of 16-18, but they’re temporarily sold out.
