In Your Face Lap Times!
Rather than using expensive, sensitive, hi-tech hardware (like a head-up display or mini lens-projector), Jun Yin’s Viewpace goggles offer a simple extension of a timer for swimmers to track their lap times. The extension is slim and lightweight yet rigid enough to stay intact during rigorous underwater movement. While there is a level of resistance it creates in relation to hydrodynamics, this is negligible compared to the current method of stopping entirely to check a stopwatch located at the edge of the pool!

iSwimband Helps Prevent Kids From Drowning
According to the CDC, “from 2005-2009, there were an average of 3,533 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day.” That’s much too large a number, and if the iSwimband pictured above can help bring it down even just a bit, we’re all for it. This device basically alerts you when it senses that one of your children could be in danger of drowning. There are two models: one is for swimmers and is worn around the head, the other is a wristband for younger kids and those who don’t swim yet. The swimmer’s headband lets kids go in the water, but will alert you on your phone if it senses its been under water for too long. The non-swimmer’s wristband however will immediately ping you if it gets wet. This way you can step away from the pool for a couple of minutes, or read that book, without having to worry that your kid will disobey you and actually get in the water like you told him not to. It’s $99 for a set including the app, and two sensors.

A Pest in the Water: Giant Cockroach Float
When you tell people that there’s a giant cockroach in the water, then you can expect a few of them to freak out and jump out of the pool because, well, there’s a roach. But put this particular giant roach into the pool, and you’ll get a few disgusted side glances at most along with a couple of double-takes.
The Giant Cockroach float is exactly what its name says it is, and while it may not feel as scratchy as an actual roach (“scratchy” being my choice of adjective, after several encounters with roaches that seemed to think that it was a good idea to hide in my shoe, of all places), it’s still very much capable of raising the hairs of those who are katsaridaphobic.
The float is available online for $29.95.
