ESPN Deportes and ESPNews now streaming on WatchESPN

If you've ever wished that WatchESPN would offer more Spanish-language sports and non-stop news, today's your lucky day. The streaming service now includes access to ESPN Deportes and ESPNews, both of which are available to TV subscribers through Apple TV boxes, mobile apps and the web. Xbox Live viewers will get the channels soon, the broadcaster says. Only some will appreciate the new WatchESPN content, but it's hard to disagree with getting some extra fútbol coverage at no extra charge.

WatchESPN update brings live toolbar to iPad with guides and scores

No matter how engrossed you are in a live sports stream, there's a good chance that you'll want a quick peek at other events. Thanks to an update to WatchESPN for iOS, that's a simple matter. iPad owners now have access to the Live Toolbar, a ticker that shows both a channel guide, live scores and links to highlight videos. If there's ever a lull in the middle of a game, users can even watch highlight clips side-by-side with live streams. The WatchESPN upgrade doesn't have any major improvements in store for iPhone and iPod touch owners, but iPad-bound sports fans will have a good reason to grab the new release at the source link.

Apple TV adds HBO Go and WatchESPN to its ranks

Apple today announced that two more entertainment options will be hitting its set-top offering. HBO Go and WatchESPN have been added to the Apple TV lineup, along with Sky News, Crunchyroll and Qello, joining the ranks of Hulu Plus, Netflix and sports from the MLB, NBA and NHL. Apple also used the opportunity to talk up some download numbers, revealing that iTunes users have downloaded one billion TV episodes and 380 million movies. At present, more than 800,000 episodes and 350,000 movies are purchased per day.

Update: As All Things D points out, the new offerings might not be so rosy for Dish and DirecTV subscribers.

WatchESPN reaches AT&T Uverse subscribers

U-verse subscribers often have some bandwidth to spare; it's only fair that they make the most of it with some streaming sports. Appropriately, AT&T and ESPN have just flicked the switch on WatchESPN support for those who subscribe to U-verse TV service. As always, viewers can tune into live and on-demand content from a computer, an Xbox 360 (with an Xbox Live Gold subscription) or their Android and iOS devices while on the road. The sports partnership is also just the start: AT&T notes that all flavors of Watch Disney should be coming "soon," giving the little ones something to stream in between football matches.

Charter lands deal for Disney’s full streaming, TV services in the first half of 2013

Charter viewers won't have any shortage of TV choices this year -- at least, as long as they like Disney-owned channels. The House of Mouse has signed a deal with Charter to bring its full deck of channels and services to the cable provider in the first half of 2013. The mix includes all national ABC, Disney and ESPN channels as well as their on-demand and authenticated streaming equivalents, such as WatchESPN. The Longhorn Network and local station retransmissions are involved as well. Neither side has mentioned the full terms, although it's cast as a "multi-year" pact; we'll take the uncertainty as long as we get more say in what (and how) we watch.

Although WatchESPN viewing has been an option for Android viewers since 2011, those with Amazon tablets haven't had the same luxury -- they've sometimes had to watch on an old-fashioned TV. Thankfully, ESPN is giving them a better start to the new year by bringing its app to the Amazon Appstore. Anyone with a regular Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD or Kindle Fire HD 8.9 now has access to live games and news as long as they have a supporting TV subscription. Optimum TV subscribers now have access to WatchESPN and Showtime Anytime

A few weeks back, Cablevision revealed WatchESPN would indeed be accessible by Optimum TV subscribers, but, at that point, a mere "coming soon" promise is all we had to go by. Well, the good news is folks won't have to wait much longer, as the cable provider has announced that its customers can now start enjoying the on-demand content from The World Wide Leader in Sports. Additionally, Cablevision also managed to add Showtime Anytime, giving qualified Optimum TV to Go subs an online hub where they can catch more than 600 titles (including series, movies and sports shows) on their desktop, laptop and iOS or Android device. ESPN signs dozenyear deal for Division 1 college football playoff games

Wondering who is more excited than college football fans to see that the top division is finally moving to a playoff system? It's ESPN, which just announced it's signed a 12-year deal for the championship games, semifinals, additional bowl games and "related programming." The deal kicks in after the 2014 regular season, when ESPN's current BCS deal ends. While it's bad news for anyone hoping to get legit access without a cable package, ESPN now has rights to offer the games on TV, in 3D and to mobile devices through its WatchESPN apps (now including the Xbox 360) until 2026. ESPN says its broadcasts of two BCS Championship games have generated the highest cable audiences ever, so it's no surprise they'd want to keep an iron grip on these new games. We knew it was coming, and after over a month of making the official announcement, ESPN and Cablevision have let it be known that, as of today, Optimum Online subscribers can now start enjoying content from ESPN3. Naturally, this will bring a plethora of sporting events from The Worldwide Leader in Sports to Cablevision customers which hold an Optimum internet account -- tidbits like live events and replays of the NCAA Championships, basketball, tennis, golf, cricket and, of course, both types of football. As for the company's Optimum TV to Go, it has said that WatchESPN, Watch Disney Channel, Watch DisneyXD and Watch DisneyJunior will indeed be "coming soon" to the service, though it wasn't quite clear about how "soon" that's going to be.

WatchESPN lands on Xbox Live with split screen viewing and more

Gamers yearning for the promise of more than just ESPN 3 on the Xbox 360 have finally gotten what they've been waiting for. As of today, WatchESPN has landed for Xbox Live Gold Members, packing live network programming through channels including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3 and ESPN Goal Line / Buzzer Beater. In order to take advantage of the app on Ballmer and Co.'s gaming box, you'll need service from a cable provider that offers WatchESPN. Those who're content with only ESPN 3 will still just need an Xbox Live Gold subscription and an internet connection from an "affiliated provider." Along with live content, the app also brings split screen channel viewing, game reminders, a personalized "My Sports" section and more. According to Microsoft's Major Nelson, an Xbox SmartGlass companion experience for ESPN, NBA and SportsPicks will be available come December.
