Bicycle with Ice Wheels: Deinventing the Wheel

Clothing company Uniqlo asked the mad engineer Colin Furze to go to a cold place while wearing its thermal shirt. To keep himself busy – and because he’s crazy – in the barren plains, Colin decided to bring a bicycle along. But not just any bicycle – he made one with wheels made of ice.

So what’s a bike with ice wheels like? It’s pretty much what you’d expect:

The far more interesting aspect of this silly project is how Colin made the wheels. Because of time constraints he decided not to make the wheels 100% ice, because those would take too long to freeze. So he made a mold that includes the rims, as well as some wires for reinforcement.

Then he made a lathe for the wheels to smooth them out. He then modified a BMX bike to accommodate the 16″ ice wheels.

Clearly his next project should be to emulate Ghost Rider’s motorcycle. I bet he can do that. Whether or not he’d live to talk about it is another matter altogether.

Colin Furze Makes X-Men Pyro Flamethrowers, Goes Crazy (Again)

For those who don’t know, Pyro is one of the X-Men. A lesser known character in the Marvel universe. Even so, his backpack mounted flamethrower is pretty darn cool. I mean hot. It is kind of lame though that Pyro can’t produce fire on his own, but can only control it.

One guy has now brought Pyro to life by making his own flamethrowing back pack, complete with the ability to shoot fire from his hands. That guy is inventor Colin Furze (the guy who made the retractable wolverine claws and Magneto boots). Now he is setting stuff on fire. This guy just can’t get enough of the X-Men.

In fact, he is quickly becoming a one man X-Team. Is there nothing that the X-Men can do that this guy can’t do? Not so far. I bet he gets stumped by Storm’s power. Go ahead try to control the weather. Ha. You can’t. Wait. Was that rain? Damn it!

Guy Walks on Ceiling with Homemade Magneto Boots, Laughs Maniacally

Check out this video of Colin Furze (the maniac who gave us those cool Wolverine claws) walking on the ceiling using his newly-completed, homemade Magneto boots. I question his sanity after seeing him laughing hysterically over the feat. Magneto never got that excited. This is proof that you respect a super power more if you have to earn it, rather than being born with it.

He did have the good sense to try it on a low ceiling though. That’s several small steps on the ceiling for man, one giant leap for nerdkind who have spare electromagnets at home.

Here’s some behind-the-scenes videos of how Colin made the boots and how he learned to walk in them:

Not to be mean or anything, but it would have been funny if he got stuck and had to hang there until help arrived.
