This Pan Uses Rocket Tech To Be More Efficient

flare-pan

‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ goes the saying. But sometimes things are more broken than we realize, and this much is true of conventional saucepans. When you’re heating stuff in a conventional pot, the heat partially transfers to the liquids through the bottom, but the rest is lost up the sides. Oxford engineering Professor Dr. Thomas Povey and his team of master’s students thought there should be a more efficient way to transfer this heat, and the Flare Pans using FIN-X Technology are the result of their efforts. The fins make for a more even distribution of heat and actually reduce the amount of energy needed to achieve temperature parity by 44%. This is clearly seen with thermal imaging equipment.

So while you may not impress your guests with your cooking skills, at least you can “entertain” them with your tales of efficient thermodynamics. The Flare line of cookware will be sold starting next month through retailer Lakeland, with prices starting at £49.99 ($85 roughly) for a frying pan. Efficiency, apparently, isn’t cheap.

Forever Alone Fondue Set

It’s not fair to call the Personal Fondue Set the “Forever Alone” Fondue set, but come on! Yeah, you can take the angle that it’s a cool little fondue mug that you can enjoy with your loved one, each of you to his own portion of delicious melted cheese. But let’s be honest for a second: the real advantage to owning this is that you can have fondue by yourself without having to break out the large pot. And you know what, that’s ok. It’s ok to enjoy things on your own. It’s great!

Really. It is.

Right?

Playful Bakeware

The Flexy series of cake pans offer a unique twist on the generic round a square bakeware you can find in any grocery store. Mold each one to your liking for a more personal touch that will stand out from the rest. Designer Simon Michel states that the bakeware is composed of food-safe plastic, but that might need a lil tweaking considering the material’s low melting point. Other than that, it’s an interesting idea for designer-cooking at home!

Not Your Granny’s Kettle

The word ‘kettle’ itself has a sort of antiquated, old-school ring to it, doesn’t it? With this in mind, designer Felipe Arnador redesigned the classic Braun brand kettle to appeal to the younger user. Its sleek appearance is made possible by a double surface layer that produces a vacuum between the interior and exterior, keeping the user’s hand safe from heat and eliminating the need for a handle.
