Dogmeat Plush Won’t Step in Front of Your Minigun

I never liked going on adventures with Dogmeat in Fallout 4. I tried it but he always seemed to step in front of me when I was shooting the crap out of something and I would accidentally shoot him. Once I had stealth armor later in the game, he wasn’t sneaky enough so I just went it alone into the wasteland.

If you really dig Dogmeat, you can get this plush version of the fuzzy guy for your collection. The stuffed animal is 8-inches tall, and he comes with one red bandana around his neck and two surprise bandanas inside the box.

These surprise bandanas could be blue paisley, stars & stripes, leopard, camouflage, or even Jangles the Moon Monkey. The Dogmeat plush sells for $14.99(USD) and is available now at ThinkGeek.

Play Fallout 4 as Dogmeat

The first of the companions you come across in Fallout 4 is Dogmeat as he haplessly barks at the gas pump right outside Sanctuary. You can befriend him, but honestly he sort of sucks as a companion. In fact, all the companions seem to excel at getting in my way and walking in front of me as I am shooting at bad guys. If you like playing with Dogmeat, you will want this new mod.

The mod is called the “Be the Dog” mod, and with it you actually get to play as Dogmeat. You can even venture over to the gas station and get Dogmeat to be your companion.

Since you are a dog, you can’t use weapons. You can wear dog armor and bite people. “Sic balls DOGMEAT!” isn’t an attack sadly. You can also play as other types of dogs including feral. I want to play as a Deathclaw or Supermutant. If I show this to my dog crazy daughter, she will never let me play again.

Video Game Dog of the Year – There is Such a Thing

Dogmeat

The CW have something called the World Dog Awards. One of its categories? Video game dog of  the year.

What are the requirements? Being canine and being pretty useful in your game. Turns out not a lot of dogs fall into that category, and when you see the list of nominees, you realize that most of them were pretty special.

The most notable one comes from probably the most anticipated game of the year (2015), Fallout 4. Dogmeat provided the player with a companion he can use for almost the entire game, or simply use as a pack mule to carry your stuff. Either way, it’s hard not to feel connected with him, and Bethesda knew what they were doing when he was heavily featured in the trailers and lead ups to the release.

Another serious candidate for the award is Diamond Dog in Metal Gear Solid V. He actually begins the game as a puppy which might give him an edge through cuteness. He begins as a cute follower to Snake but turns into something of a killing machine. He has an eye patch, just like his Master/Daddy, making him even more adorable.

Surprisingly there’s Chop from GTA V. The problem here? The game came out in 2013. The fourth nominee comes from Barbie and Her Sisters: Puppy Rescue. Well, this is an entire game up for the award, and as geek.com put it, the puppy characters within the game lack sufficient definition for the nominating committee to even identify one of them.
