A Smartphone Enabled Hamster Wheel For Measuring Your Pet’s Exercise

Pets: just like humans, they need exercise. Granted I don’t do any, but I do understand its importance. Isn’t that half the battle? Oh, G.I. Joe is shaking his head no. Enter the Marathon Pets Smart Wheel, a hamster/small rodent wheel that is supposed to connect humans with their pets via their running activity.

Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter ($49 – $55 for an 8-inch wheel, $68 – $85 for a 12-inch wheel), the device can measure a pet’s current speed, max speed, average speed, distance, revolutions, number of running sessions, and time run, and relay all that information to your smartphone, tablet or PC for analysis. Granted I’m not sure what you’re supposed to do with all that information, but you could certainly make some cool charts and graphs in Microsoft Excel.

So, let’s say the wheel indicates your small pet isn’t getting as much exercise as it should, what do you do? Simple – hire me as its personal trainer. For only $20/session, I’ll Skype your hamster and provide them with all the motivation they need to get fit. Or just talk to them in a baby voice for five minutes before hanging up to make myself a sandwich. It’s really a win-win situation provided if you don’t think about it too hard, or at all really.

One Fast Cat: A Giant Hamster Wheel for Cats

Do you have a fat cat? Don’t just let it lay around all day. Send it to the gym with this oversize exercise wheel for cats. It’s called One Fast Cat and it will cost you $200. That’s a steep price for a cat gym membership, but it’s either that or you have Jabba the Cat laying around eating toads all day.

It is made from recycled plastics and the inside surface is made from a special foam to prevent claws from catching, allowing your cat to run naturally. In addition, it’s easy to set up and breaks down for easy shipment.

Regardless of your intentions, this may be the most expensive cat toy your cat ignores. If I know cats, most will just sniff this thing and then never look at it again.

* – The cat in the video not typical. He was paid to exercise. Mine would never break a sweat.

Man Tries to “Walk” Across Irish Sea in a Hamster Wheel, Fails

It always amazes me how humans will do so many silly stunts. I’m not sure if that makes us stupid or awesome, but it’s always entertaining. Chris Todd made a homemade floating hamster wheel boat so that he could “walk” across the Irish Sea.

It’s more or less a simple pontoon boat that’s powered by walking in the wheel. The idea was to walk all 66-miles across the Irish Sea from Wales to the East coast of Ireland. Sadly, he had to stop around half way because of a faulty rudder and bad weather.

He was pulled to safety by a support boat, but the watercraft, called “Tredalo,” ended up at the bottom of the Irish Sea where the fish now have a new wheel to play with.
