A Faux Fur Chewbacca Water Bottle Holder

Because the thought of getting faux fur in your mouth while taking a sip of water is universally appealing, this is the Star Wars Chewbacca Bottle Cooler available for pre-order from Entertainment Earth for $20. Designed to hold 20 to 32 oz. water bottles & 750ml bottles (wait – of liquor?!), the carrier includes “powerful insulation” to keep your bottle as cool as Luke Skywalker on Hoth prior to sleeping inside a tauntaun.

While they call the product a “cooler,” I’d argue it doesn’t actually do any cooling, it just keeps your bottle from warming as quickly as it would without insulation. So it’s technically a slow-warmer or a hairy koozie.

As Chewbacca would say, “GGGWARRRHHWWWW!” Or would this be more of a “WWWRRRRRRGWWWRRRR” situation? Whatever the case, Disney better be giving Chewie a cut of the royalties from these products, because, as Han Solo once warned C-3PO, “It’s not wise to upset a Wookiee.” Wiser words have never been spoken.

Insulating Incubating!

The Suncubator’s greatness lies in its simplicity. Built for babies in the harsh climate of Africa, the Suncubator allows babies to have a warm bed to sleep in at night by harvesting heat during the day. Africa’s barren lands see temperature differences of 30 degrees from noon to night (imagine having to switch between bare clothing and woolens in a single day, everyday). Even a drop in a single degree can reduce one’s immunity by 30%, so imagine how susceptible infants are to the host of diseases out there.

The warm and cozy haven provided by the suncubator is all thanks to the choice of material. A soft-foam outer layer on the outside allows the toddler to sleep comfortably within the crib. Under that lies a layer of polymer gel that retains and radiates heat, both from the sun as well as the infant’s body heat. Adding that wonderful touch of interaction design to the product is a little sun symbol on the cot, coated with heat-sensitive Zion ink. When the incubator gets warm enough, the sun changes color indicating that it is ready for use, therefore adding to the already brilliant user-experience!

The Suncubator is a winner of an IDSA Award in the Social Impact Design category for the year 2016.

I love drinking coffee, and as such, I’ve tried many different ways to reduce the cost of my addiction. For one, I rarely drink coffee from coffee shops, preferring to make my own and take it to work. As such, I need a good portable mug to get the job done.
