I wouldn’t be surprised if the idea for Toco came from a Flintstones episode! I mean, that family had a bird for everything… phone calls, record playing, typewriting, even alarm clocks! Toco, however, is more of a kitchen helper. Modeled on the shape and design of a toucan bird (remember Rafael from the movie Rio?), Toco actually helps core and spiralize an apple, turning it from a fruit into a fun spiral you can eat!
Made from plastic (so it’s relatively safe around kids), Toco’s beak comes with a circular element at its tip that pierces into the fruit’s core, while the beak itself has a sharp-ish edge that cuts through the fruit’s flesh. Toco’s eye-hole serves as a finger-rest too, giving you the leverage you need to easily cut through the fruit. A few twists later, you’ve got yourself an apple that’s core-less and ready to eat, bake, or decorate your smoothie bowl with! Toco works with all kinds of apples and a bunch of pears too!
The good thing about Kickstarter is the fact that it allows makers to get funded by enthusiastic backers who believe in one sane or even completely insane idea. I’ll leave it to you to judge whether this product fits in the sane or insane category.
The Titanium Peeler can peel a goddamn tree. It’s the ultimate peeling device with its titanium body AND blade. Lightweight, ergonomic, and incredibly resilient, you can use the Titanium peeler to peel pretty much anything you please. However we sincerely hope you stick to fruits and vegetables!
The Peeler’s design is clean, simple, and gets the job done incredibly well. The titanium body gives you something solid to hold onto and the titanium blade really puts other blades to shame. The body comes with a depression to rest your thumb in, giving you a good grip and therefore a great peel. Right at the top there’s even a tiny scoop that works well for removing potato-eyes or spots/pockmarks on your fruits and veggies. The bilaterally symmetric design of the peeler allows it to be used by left and right hands in any orientations with absolute ease.
Here’s what’s so special about the Titanium Peeler (enough to warrant it a feature on YD). I’ve mentioned before how Titanium is an incredible material. Designer Warren Simpson is known to be an ‘ace machinist’, working extensively with CNC machining, and the Titanium peeler is a successor to the already wildly successful Titanium Cheese Slicer kickstarter campaign from November last year.

If you are a fan of salads with carrots and cucumbers, you probably peel them nicely before you toss them in. Peeling with a plain old metal peeler is too boring for fans of Doctor Who. What you need is this Sonic Screwdriver fruit and veggie peeler.
It looks like the sonic screwdriver used by the 11th and 12th doctors. It’s made from plastic and stainless steel on the blade end. With my well established penchant for geeky kitchen items, I need this to go with my Enterprise pizza cutter.
