For heating beverages without the need for external appliances, the R-CUP generates its own heat with a simple built-in rotating system. Within the cup lid, there is a rotating heating device. Swinging the ball drives internal rotation and generates heat to warm one’s drink. The unique swinging motion also keeps your hands from tiring!

A big, computer-ruining spill at the designer’s office served as the inspiration behind this better, smarter mug! Powered by patented “Smartgrip” technology, its base creates a super powerful airlock when placed on a surface to counteract collisions. No suction cups or magnets, it lifts off the surface naturally when you need a sip. Check out the video to see how it says no to getting knocked over!

Hot drinks that have gone cold are such a drag. Unfortunately, this happens more often than you’d like. Some emergency always seems to come up just as you’re about to take a sip from that cup of freshly-brewed coffee. By the time everything’s all in order, you come back to a drink that’s too tepid to enjoy.
Working with that in mind is Fan Wu, who came up with the Solar Glass.
It’s an insulated glass that has a structure that’s similar to a solar vacuum heat pipe. The outside of the glass has a coating that absorbs heat from the sun and surroundings, keeping the contents of the glass warm – just how you like it.
The Solar Glass is a 2013 iF Design award – concept design entry. While there’s no word on whether the Solar Glass will be produced, Bodum already produces similar glasses you can buy today.

Geode is a spill proof, protective case that seals in a traditional 16oz pint glass, giving the user a new, convenient way to travel with their favorite beverage. Designer Ryan Savage was inspired one day when he was mixing a protein shake in a glass and then realized he had to run out the door. We’ve all been there – simply slide the Geode cover over your glass and go! No spills, no broken glass and better yet, no BPA or other harmful chemicals from plastic containers!
